I went there this past week for dinner. Was very disappointed they didn't have a liquor license yet . Another thing is they charge for extra chips/salsa, it's only like a dollar something but I thought that free chips/salsa was a staple for every Mexican restaurant. The food was good and they gave us some kind of free dessert, prob. since we were the only ones in there. I might go back again, but prob. won't since I have several other fav. around the area.

I actually thought the food was better than El Rodeo. I just wasn't a fan of the service.
4/20/2009 11:44:54 PM
el rodeo always tastes bland to me...
4/20/2009 11:52:32 PM
The taco I got there a few months back was very runny. They couldn't have drained any of the grease off the beef before putting it all together. It was pretty disappointing.
4/20/2009 11:53:52 PM
this thread makes me want a taco salad... dammit....
4/20/2009 11:56:04 PM
Yeah, that issue with the free chips thing does suck. It at least makes you not gorge on those things all night before you get your food.
4/21/2009 1:01:02 AM
Yea, but it's still annoying
4/21/2009 1:01:57 AM
I agree. I was all 'wtf' but then the food came out anywayEasier to get to and could be much more enjoyable than El Rodeo with the better parking and building in any casePlus, you have Ruckus right across the parking lot for drinks later [Edited on April 21, 2009 at 1:03 AM. Reason : lkj]

The menu claims that they charge 1.25$ for extra chips and salsa, but after 3 visits with a group or 3-4 people we were not charged for 2 extra sets of chips and salsa after the original round of 2 baskets. I would imagine this is just a precautionary measure for kids who come in with their friends and don't buy anything. On another note, the food was slightly above average, nothing special. BUT the service was much better then the shitty slow ass service I have gotten at Cuevo de Lobos (or whatever the place is called in Aventferry shopping center) where they have 1 slacker waiter for however many tables come in around 1-2pm.[Edited on April 21, 2009 at 1:25 AM. Ate at El Cerro today.
4/21/2009 2:47:17 PM
Ate at El Cerro on Thursday, good menu - good choices for the cheap. Lunch specials for under $6. Get a water and your bill will be under $8 with tip, can't complain.Food served *very* quickly, nice staff! They posted on the door that they don't have a beer/liquor license, so it'll be a few days before you can get a beer there.I never ate there when it was Rock-Ola. They had a few pics left over from there hanging on the walls in places where they didn't have enough of their own pics. :-)

it was mehel dorado still wins in my book.
4/25/2009 2:19:44 AM
I went there to try it out. Seemed to be perfectly average for around here. Staff was very polite and responsive, considerably more so than Cueva de Lobos. But CdL is right across the street, so it will probably still get the bulk of my Mexican restaurant money in the forseeable future.
4/25/2009 2:22:44 AM
^^ for sure. Cerro had pretty decent food, but it was as good as el dorado and el dorado has by far the best service of almost any restaurant i've been to.
4/25/2009 2:47:26 AM
I went there for lunch with a few friends today. Good food, limited number of chips though... beer was good. Wish the draft beer was cold though.
4/25/2009 5:34:59 AM
Shit was awful. And what the hell is with the neon orange refried beans?
5/1/2009 12:27:13 PM
you know it's good when it glows
5/1/2009 12:28:20 PM
BTW, the new El Rodeo menus that were rolled out around a year ago also say that they charge for additional chips & salsa, but I've never been charged and I practically drink the salsa and go through at least two containers even if it's just me and one other person.

el rodeo has claimed they charge for extra chips ever since i first went there in high school (mid-90's). I have never once been charged for extra chips.
5/1/2009 12:46:13 PM
