I went there this past week for dinner. Was very disappointed they didn't have a liquor license yet . Another thing is they charge for extra chips/salsa, it's only like a dollar something but I thought that free chips/salsa was a staple for every Mexican restaurant. The food was good and they gave us some kind of free dessert, prob. since we were the only ones in there. I might go back again, but prob. won't since I have several other fav. around the area.

Found there website:

http://www.elcerrobarandgrill.com/

From the menu:

Quote :
"Chips:
The first basket of chips & salsa is FREE.
Any additional Chips & Salsa will be $1.25"

What incentive do good restaurants have to move to an area full of poor and cheap college students? Also the area looks like shit and very due for renovations.

I actually thought the food was better than El Rodeo. I just wasn't a fan of the service.

The taco I got there a few months back was very runny. They couldn't have drained any of the grease off the beef before putting it all together. It was pretty disappointing.

Yeah, that issue with the free chips thing does suck. It at least makes you not gorge on those things all night before you get your food.

I agree. I was all 'wtf' but then the food came out anyway

Easier to get to and could be much more enjoyable than El Rodeo with the better parking and building in any case

Plus, you have Ruckus right across the parking lot for drinks later

The menu claims that they charge 1.25$ for extra chips and salsa, but after 3 visits with a group or 3-4 people we were not charged for 2 extra sets of chips and salsa after the original round of 2 baskets. I would imagine this is just a precautionary measure for kids who come in with their friends and don't buy anything.

On another note, the food was slightly above average, nothing special. BUT the service was much better then the shitty slow ass service I have gotten at Cuevo de Lobos (or whatever the place is called in Aventferry shopping center) where they have 1 slacker waiter for however many tables come in around 1-2pm.

Ate at El Cerro today.

I thought that was pretty messed up, but I ate with two other people, and one basket of chips plus the entree was the perfect amount of food.

Ate at El Cerro on Thursday, good menu - good choices for the cheap. Lunch specials for under $6. Get a water and your bill will be under $8 with tip, can't complain.

Food served *very* quickly, nice staff!

They posted on the door that they don't have a beer/liquor license, so it'll be a few days before you can get a beer there.

I never ate there when it was Rock-Ola. They had a few pics left over from there hanging on the walls in places where they didn't have enough of their own pics. :-)

I went there to try it out. Seemed to be perfectly average for around here. Staff was very polite and responsive, considerably more so than Cueva de Lobos. But CdL is right across the street, so it will probably still get the bulk of my Mexican restaurant money in the forseeable future.

^^ for sure. Cerro had pretty decent food, but it was as good as el dorado and el dorado has by far the best service of almost any restaurant i've been to.

I went there for lunch with a few friends today. Good food, limited number of chips though... beer was good. Wish the draft beer was cold though.

BTW, the new El Rodeo menus that were rolled out around a year ago also say that they charge for additional chips & salsa, but I've never been charged and I practically drink the salsa and go through at least two containers even if it's just me and one other person.

Let's put this to rest. The $1.25 for additional chips & salsa only applies if you're only eating chips and salsa. For example:

You go into El Cerro for lunch to eat chips and salsa and have a relaxing beer with some friends
Extra chips and salsa cost 1.25

You go into El Cerro and order food off the menu (other than chips and salsa)
Extra chips and salsa are free.

El Rodeo's menu has always said the same thing. It's not a blanket statement, even though it is stupidly misrepresented on the menu.

I was looking through pictures on their website.

Reminds me of early '99 when I waited tables there.
