She's crazy depressed as fuck over the economy! What a shocking news headline.

^ two comments about that:

1) it says she lost her job. teachers aren't being laid off because of the economy.

2) they say the keepers had loaded guns and they were moments away from shooting the animals. i hope those were tranquilizer darts! but it doesn't say, and it implies they were real live rounds. what do you guys think they were? and if they really were live rounds, and had they shot them, that would have been terrible, and hundred of millions of animal lovers around the globe would have been very angry, including i. i would have been an advocate of tranquilizer darts if the need arose, but if they didn't have those, and needed to shoot, i would have been an advocate of not shooting with live rounds, and letting her get mauled. (because she jumped, not fell, and she is an adult)

I don't even believe tranquilizer darts are necessary. You've taken this animal, which is known to be dangerous, out of its environment and trapped it in this pseudo environment for the sake of the entertainment of people like this moron. I'm not a vegetarian or an animal rights activist, but to suggest that it's right to even tranq an animal because you trapped it an then let this fat sack of stupidity swim right up to is ridiculous. That woman was a free meal and I don't for a second think anyone should have intervened.

Wouldn't tranquilizers take time before they had any effect? They probably wouldn't be any good in that situation, as you would want to immediately stop the behavior that caused you to take the shot... so probably live rounds.

And I'd support taking the bears down (as an absolute last resort). Human life > animal life. No real way of knowing how she got in there until someone got the story straight from witnesses, etc., etc. You'd have a small investigation to carry out at the very least, and you'd be in a situation where you had to act quickly.

As far as I know the only charge is criminal trespassing, or something like that. It seems like she's getting off pretty easy considering the people she put in danger - including placing the animals in danger.

in that pic of the bear biting her back or whatever, she looks like a whale or something jumping out of the water. that's probably why they tried to eat her.

i think they need to put her down

they were probably real bullets based on the article....at least they would die with one shot to the head......rather than drowning once they fall asleep....

Human life vs polar bear life, human wins all the time...

Yeah, they were real bullets, as the article implies, and logically.

But that sucks, and makes me mad.

I do see jbtilley's point that the bears should/would have been shot if the need arose, because there would be no way of knowing how she got in there (maybe she was insane, maybe she was pushed, etc) at that moment. And so, she should have been saved even if it meant killing the cuddly teddy bears.

However, in that case (if the bears were shot to save her) I also think that if the investigation revealed she jumped on her own, and was not insane, then she should be thrown back in. Of course, this would never happen, but it would be the only way to make it right for the dead bears.

^I was thinking put her in some sort of exhibit until she generated enough revenue to pay for new bears.

that would do as well.

exhibit could be in a separate building with no indication as to what's inside.

building should be titled on the outside

"Most dangerous beast alive... killed X polar bears!!!"

and they should charge like an extra $5 to go in.

You think not? Government revenues are down everywhere. School districts are working with smaller budgets and, when that tends to happen, teachers get laid off and new positions get cut.

Sure, she probably didn't lose her job because of the economy (though it's not quite fair to rule that out given that Germany's recession has been going on for a while yet and is ridiculous compared to ours), but the inability to find a new job can be directly tied to a lack of available funding in school districts which can be tied to a lack of government funding which in turn can be tied to a lack of revenues due to the downturn in the economy.

She probably lost her job for being a crazy bitch.

or they could've just left her in the bear enclosure and charged $50 per person to watch the results

Seriously, why the fuck is anyone advocating human>>>animals in this situation? You put something ferocious and then drop fat meals in there only to shoot them when they act on their primitive instincts? WTF
