It may very well be the biggest non-story of the year:
Quote : | "A few minutes ago, all the media members buzzed quietly when Alex Ovechkin came out to watch the Rangers' morning skate. This, several veterans said, was slightly unusual. Then they buzzed again, when Ovechkin was tapped on the shoulder by a Caps' PR staffer and abruptly left.
Turns out a Rangers official had apparently asked Ovechkin to vacate the bench. The Caps PR folks offered Ovie a seat in the stands instead. He declined.
Playoff hockey is fun for all.
UPDATED: Tarik and I pretty much took care of asking the principals what they thought. I bit the bullet on Tortorella:
"Oh, God, I didn't even know," he said. "This is the first I've heard of it. Ask me a question about the game, not that [bleep]."
Tarik took care of Ovechkin:
"I just [wanted] Tortorella [to get ticked] off -- and he was," he said, explaining his motivation. "Because they afraid of me," he added, when asked why he was made to leave. " |
Players watch the other team's skate all the time. I can't believe this shit is a story.4/20/2009 2:15:36 PM |

rangers lost this one in the first by coming out flat.....they controlled the game for the first few minutes in the washington zone but didn't pick up semen and kind of deflated after that. The question is whether or not the revitalized rangers (after a good torts lashing) on wednesday will be able to shut down whatever momentum the caps got from this game. And that will be the series.
Also, Avery took some bad penalties...wonder how the team/torts will react to it.
That being said Go Rangers and keep working hard Naslund/Callahan/Dubinsky/lundqvist 4/20/2009 10:17:22 PM |

Avery was a fuckin joke tonight. All of those penalties were just fucking stupid. The guy is a pretty talented player, but he'd rather be a douche than play w/skill. 4/20/2009 10:58:08 PM |

taking the extra swing at varlamov and thinking no one would see it might be the single stupidest thing i've seen avery do...it's stupid in general, but to think that he'd get a reaction after the kid didn't move at all on the first swing just shows how the wheels turn up there in avery's head 4/21/2009 3:23:15 AM |

Normally I wouldn't consider Avery's first penalty intentionally trying to hit the other player... but I see Avery do that shit too much. He's been the Capitals best players the past 2 games.
Seems like every goalie plays at their best against the Capitals in the playoffs. 4/22/2009 9:48:18 PM |

How can they so consistently do this? It's hard to say that they need to blow up their roster and start over considering how impressive their lineup is, but at some point you've got to do something. 4/24/2009 1:20:21 AM |

So back in December Adam Proteau at The Hockey News picked 4 teams that he was already ready to write out of the playoff picture. He also included a bet on what he would do if that team ended up making it.
He was correct on Ottawa, Colorado, on Atlanta. On Columbus, not so much.
Quote : | "COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS I feel awful for long-suffering Blue Jackets fans. But I cannot in good conscience put any faith in a team that currently has a 9.9 percent power play efficiency rating.
That’s right – nine-point-nine stinking percent. Is it possible to decline penalties like they do in the NFL?
If They Make The Playoffs, I Will: Attend a Blue Jackets game wearing a Civil War-era military uniform and sit quietly while Doug MacLean regales me with his draft record as Columbus’ GM." |

Not to double post or anything, but for anyone who missed the Rangers/Caps game:
Ovechkin scored another insane physics defying goal where he dangled through two defenders and then scored from the ground again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79L_3efnmQY
More importantly, a Caps fan poured a beer on John Tortorella in the middle of the game and Torts picked up a stick and had to be restrained. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh9wY6qb8ac

Every time I see Torts losing his mind over something all I can think of is drinking at the top of the Clarion Hotel in Raleigh and talking to this guy in town to umpire a State baseball game who said he lived next door to Torts in Tampa and he would not shut up about how he was the classiest of the classiest and just the nicest guy you would ever meet. 4/25/2009 9:43:23 AM |
