""There has been an opportunity given there," Paulus said Thursday morning on a conference call with reporters. "I thought it was a really good visit. It was really helpful to get to be on a campus and meet with coach [Rich] Rodriguez and see the system and understand what types of opportunities are out there.""

doesn't sound like its official yet:
Quote :
"Paulus is still gathering information about Michigan and other schools, as well as the possibility of working out for more NFL teams. If he chooses the college route, a school's graduate program will be a major factor in his decision.

So a short white dude who hasn't played competitive football in four years is going to compete for the starting job in a spread offense at one of the most history-rich programs in the country? And he wasn't even there for spring practice?

C'mon

interesting point somebody brought up on the radio today...

if Paulus goes to Michigan and is their starting QB this season, he would probably be the only person ever to play in the UNC/Duke basketball rivalry as well as the Michigan/Ohio State football rivarly

Love or hate Duke or Paulus, thats a pretty cool distinction

rich rod just breeding that qb competition

paulus most likely wont cut it imo, but his developed athleticism over 4 years of duke basketball conditioning should have him set up to get a shot

i cant help but picture him looking like Drew Brees (not saying he is as skilled, just saying what they actually look like in terms of speed and footwork)

all the articles im seeing are using Paulus as the source for knowing he's been offered a scholarship...it'd be funny as hell to me if Michigan came out and said they never offered him one...kinda like that kid that had a big press conference on what school he was going to choose, but later we all found out that the schools weren't even actively recruiting him

He is supposedly a college student right? Seems awful costly for someone to just up and move across the country on 'scholarship' money.

i have despised Greg Paulus the last 4 years as much as anyone, but I think this is great story if he could do it.

Oh, and the "slow, short, etc" stuff makes no sense to me whatsoever. 6'1" isn't terribly small for a college QB, and while he's slow compared to most ACC point guards, pretty sure he's more athletic than most Big 10 quarterbacks.

^^

I get your point, but most Big 10 quarterbacks don't run the Rich Rodriguez spread option. Incidentally, he is plenty tall for that system. Maybe even quick enough if he can make the reads, but it requires a more athletic QB than most Big Ten teams.

His HS coach said he is a pocket passer. Doesn't bode well for him in the system. Although his biggest issues will be bulking up and learning the system, getting comfortable in the offense, and catching up to the speed of the game. Also, he hasn't thrown the ball bunch in 4 years, which might not be a big deal if he plays for Michigan.

Honestly, I think Rich Rodriguez is using Paulus primarily to put pressure on his other QBs. He may be a reliable stopgap if they get injuries again next year.

I think it's more about him only being 180lbs...he even said that he needs to put on 20lbs to play college football or 30lbs to play in the NFL...he's gonna get sacked constantly at Michigan, their Oline was awful last year

6'1 is plenty tall enough. Just ask Drew Brees.

But yeah, he's going to have to put on at least 15 lbs of muscle ... shouldn't be that hard though. I, for one, hope this works out for him. Would be quite a story.

Quote :
"Sources: Paulus plans Orange visit
Greg Paulus, who has aspirations of becoming a college quarterback now that he's concluded his four-year basketball career as Duke's point guard last month, expects to visit Syracuse as early as this weekend, sources familiar with the situation said Monday.

Paulus, a former Syracuse two-sport high school All-American, was a prolific passer at Christian Brothers Academy, near Syracuse. He visited Michigan last week also worked out for the Green Bay Packers recently. Paulus is attempting to squeeze in a few more pro auditions but appears headed the college route.

Since Paulus did not redshirt for the Duke basketball team, he has one year of eligibility remaining in another sport. And since he will complete his degree in four years, he can go to graduate school elsewhere and compete immediately if granted a special waiver from the NCAA.

He has not ruled out playing professional basketball abroad but is still intrigued with football. Syracuse University is located minutes from his boyhood home in suburban Manlius, N.Y.

Paulus must complete his coursework at Duke. He will attend the Blue Devils basketball banquet on Friday.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Paulus threw for 11,763 yards and 152 touchdowns in high school. If Syracuse becomes his second college destination, Paulus is considering studying for a master's degree in communications.

First-year Syracuse coach Doug Marrone, an offensive savant, returned to his alma mater in January after a successful three-year stint as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints. Last season the Saints led the NFL in total offense (410.7 yards per game) and passing offense (311.1 yards), spearheaded by All-Pro quarterback Drew Brees.

In contrast, an anemic Orange offense struggled to gain yardage through its passing attack, accounting for only 121.5 yards per game while opponents threw for 225.1 yards per game. Ryan Nassib, a redshirt freshman from Malvern, Pa., was named the team's starting quarterback during the spring sessions, supplanting senior Cameron Dantley."

He's really not particularly short for a college QB. Lack of muscle is probably the biggest issue.

so does this guy regret ruining his life playing for k or what? I'm not sure what he was thinking, no way he could be a pro in basketball but football you don't need that athletic leaping and explosiveness if you're a qb

Quote :
"

Greg Paulus' college career will continue at Syracuse.

The former Duke basketball player will give football a try for his hometown school, he announced Thursday morning.

An All-American quarterback in high school at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y., Paulus chose basketball over football. He started three years at point guard for the Blue Devils and coach Mike Krzyzewski.

After Duke was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Paulus started to throw the football again. He had a workout for the Green Bay Packers and visited Michigan and Nebraska before choosing the Orange.

"My gut and my heart were telling me the opportunity to play football at Syracuse was the best place for me," Paulus said on a teleconference."

yeah, it's just ruined

Not only did he get a degree from a prestigious institution, but he got to play basketball on national TV constantly, and now gets a free ride to continue in football.

What a complete waste.
