Hahahaha, that's what I tell people because saying you're from Beltsville, MD just doesn't cut it. Incidentally, Beltsville is located 16.16 miles outside of DC. I also tell people I'm from PG County, since for some reason, it is infamous nationally.

Yes, this is the correct reason. Tryon St. and the immediate surrounding business district was historically called "Uptown", then "Downtown", and now "Uptown" again. Some people who grew up in the latter mid 20th century (offspring of people who moved to charlotte) get off on calling it "Downtown" and talking about how that it what it was "originally" called. Too bad they're wrong.

I was working for a company that had their research facilities in Salisbury. 4 days a week we worked in Salisbury and once a week we worked in RTP. At least we were able to use the company car and they paid for our breakfast on days we went down there.

huntersville used to not be as much of charlotte jr. as it is now. it used to be as soon as you got past exit 18/harris blvd, you'd suddenly realize you were in huntersville because there was nothing there. but with all of the residential and commercial growth, the lines have seriously blurred. gilead rd used to be like 45mph and no stop lights. now theres shit everywhere and every one of those goddamn stop lights always gets you. the # of cops is the worst of it. at times it feels like there are more cops in huntersville than all of charlotte proper.

for north carolinians, concord=concord=\=charlotte. but if you're talking to someone from arkansas, are you gonna say "charlotte" or try to explain where the fuck concord is in relation to charlotte?
