You cant really compare WoW to EQ, wow is all about instant gratification to keep the attention of all the bnet kiddies(I played wow for over 2 years), where as everything was so hard in EQ that you actually felt like you accomplished things when you finally completed quests / leveled / successfully raided zones.

Yeah they are vastly different in many ways.

Another reason i can think of, is that there wasn't always pressure to reach max level. in EQ you could raid places at any level basically, and it would still be a blast. (i remember raiding unrest, mistmoore, crystal caverns, etc... through mid levels). In WoW, basically you can't do jack shit till youre maxed out and already have decent gear.

I never played eq but my brief wow experience was nothing but following directions. It was like entering a cheat code that took 2 hours.

"when getting 1/25th of a level was a cause for celebration, you know you got a good game on your hand. blue ding FTW.

but seriously, the absurd amount of time was important. i would argue the actual mobs and whatnot weren't any harder than anything in WOW (til endgame), but the mechanics of coordinating the group, being unable to solo, severe death penalties, etc made it a better game which had a feeling of real accomplishment."

If you die you loose anywhere from 6-8 hours of experience per death.

The anger i felt when dying in EQ was absurd.

^make some cleric friends to get rez'd, then you only lose like an hour or 2 maybe.

One of my greatest moments in EQ (well EQ2), was when I used the templar ability to send someone back to their hometown to send the healer of a japanese farm group back to his hometown after I convinced him to group with me... when we were at the last level of sol eye. Oh my goodness it was great. It would take him at least a minimum of four hours to get back, if not more. Hahahaha.

Yeah i find that hard to believe. I kinda figured most people would enjoy the old school zones like crushbone, unrest, bb, paw, runnyeye, etc.. for leveling up. Those were the best parts of the progression server that opened up. This is disappointing.

Wasn't the poll only for current subscribers? Not sure why they would release a server with the 51/50... why not make all servers like that then. I would imagine almost everyone playing EQ has a max/near max character by now... so why would you want to start over on another server with everything the same except you would be level 51? Makes no sense. If they had release a timed progression server (one expansion every 4 months or so) I might have even tried it out. They epically failed by just polling current subscribers.

Okay so its just going to start 51/50 and everythings unlocked? What the hell is the point of that. That is stupid as hell. Fail!

alright if you want to reroll or if you havent played in a while and want to jump back in quickly (probably a bad idea in EQ anyways).

thats about it.

i agree that the early levels are pretty frustrating to level up in. But if enough people are willing to group a lot, then its extremely enjoyable.

since i didnt do a ton of end game stuff, i would find it incredibly nostalgic and fun to do lvls 1-50 on a base game (pre-kunark).

would be great to create on of those private servers and just run 5 man groups around. it probably would be too hard though. some of the game almost requires other people be in the zone camping spawns so that huge trains dont form and/or you can run out easier.

^ crushbone is a perfect example.

nothing worst than trying to run a train out of the castle, only to find 3 lego's waiting for you at the bridge

yep yep. hell dont even bother running in guk if there arent other people. more froglocks than you'll ever know what to do with.

[Edited on May 6, 2009 at 10:54 PM. Reason : spawns are probably too quick for movement with a single group in pre-kunark equip]
