Don't know shit about this stuff but from what I read he was taking something(a female fertility drug or some shit) that steroid users take after a steroid cycle to get there body to produce testosterone again. It was the same thing that Conseco got caught trying to bring over the border from Mexico...5/8/2009 8:51:44 AM |

there are other drugs that do the same thing that aren't tested for. I understand what HCG does and that it works better than almost any other product for kickstarting testosterone production post-cycle, but it's also the easiest to catch.
I'm not sure about the testing requirements of the MLB, but if all they typically do is a T/E ratio test for the majority of their screenings, then it's likely that Manny was using HCG to cover up testosterone steroid usage. HCG would force his body to continue naturally producing testosterone at a normal 1:1 T/E ratio instead of shutting down, so he would be able to take supplemental testosterone on top of that without throwing his T/E ratio past the limit and getting caught. 5/8/2009 9:57:16 AM |

Serious? Don't start that argument. Manny is one of the top hitters of all time.5/8/2009 9:59:21 AM |

Interesting dichotomy in two sports that I suspect is mainly driven by the gambling industry and the media. Sean Merriman is a great defensive player in almost every sports fan in America's eyes but every single baseball player caught is a disgrace and a cheat...

That's probably because baseball is all about stats. Baseball players are almost always judged by their career accomplishments, and steroids makes people wonder how much of that would have been accomplished without steroids.
Football is less focused on stats. Since Merriman has proven he can still be effective (although apparently much easier to injure) without roids, nobody cares so much about the steroids in his past. 5/8/2009 2:39:53 PM |

I'd like to see shaq take a serious steroid test some time, he's the only player in the nba that I am somewhat suspicious about 5/8/2009 3:07:24 PM |

The NFL is followed most rabidly by meatheads and bookies
The NFL has 1/3 the tradition of MLB
As long as there are big hits and injuries, a lot of NFL fans don't care what's pumping through Merriman's veins.
I could go on, but I think that's enough to get called a faggot troll. 5/8/2009 3:28:13 PM |

I've seen some people say that MLB is under more of an "ethical microscope" because of the anti-trust exemption as well... makes sense from Feds stand point... 5/8/2009 3:32:19 PM |

I don't think 200 people are going to gather in LA and denounce this suspension.

Good luck convincing a Red Sox fan that an article in the NEW YORK TIMES that says Papi juiced is fair and balanced
I'm just saying
One of the years Ted Williams won the triple crown, one of the MVP voters didn't even have him in his top 10
