haha...how many times will we hear "I just received a text message from Linda Staal and she said the boys used to play on the rink that Henry made on the sod farm"

actually probably zero, as tripp will not be commentating (not FS Carolinas right??)

I just received a text message from Bridget Whitney saying that because all of the games are on Versus, Tripp Tracy won't be providing commentary.

I feel the same about this series as the last, first team to 3 goals in each game will win. We dont have the offense to play them in a high scoring game like Washington did. I feel their offensive ability is greater than bostons but their defense also should be a bit weaker. Without Chara running around smashing everyone who gets near him I am hoping Staal can really get going.

I swear I am not intentionally doing this either. Before I made the thread I was thinking "I hope I make a typo but I can't intentionally do it because it doesn't work that way".

Sure enough there it is. IT'S A SIGN.

General thoughts: I think the game 5 and 6 wakeup call/s were good for this team in the end.
Kaberle showed some good stuff last night as well which bodes well for the defense.
Every time Cole touches the puck remains frustrating/exciting in an unfortunate, "oh shit what's gonna happen" way.
2 points, 16 penalty minutes, minus four for the playoffs, ughh. Maybe playing against Orpik will put the jump back in his step....................

my fourth least favorite city is Detroit (and the entire state of Michigan), I think this is a sign

it really chaps my ass when people from north of the mason-dixon line try to call us rednecks. i guarantee there are more backwards-ass hicks from pennsylvania camped out at lowes motor speedway this weekend than people from nc.

Sergei Gonchar, Defenseman. One of the great offensive defenseman in the NHL. Missed most of the regular season injured and missed some playoff games after being hit knee-on-knee by Alex Ovechkin, but he's back and will be quarterbacking the Penguin powerplay."

I don't know why this dude is hyped up so much. He's merely solid at defense, and he's nothing special at all on offense. He shoots it every time he touches it and is more likely to hit one of his teammates in the face than he is to get it in the net. He has a lot of assists mostly because he fires it at the net, misses wildly, and Crosby/Malkin clean it up off the boards and score.

yeah, vote and check out these poll results... anything with the hurricanes name is dead last.

a pretty good preview of the series here*:

The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Saturday that forward Scott Walker's wife Julie has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. The team said her illness is considered treatable, and she is expected to make a full recovery.

"My wife is an amazing person and we are looking forward to a positive outcome from this challenge," Walker said in a press release.

Walker will address the media after the team practices today in Raleigh. It is unknown if he will miss any games in the Eastern Conference Final, which begins on Monday in Pittsburgh.

Courtesy of The Hockey News:

Quote :
"Carolina has a no-name, lunch-bucket defense corps that offers little in the way of offensive punch or depth. Joni Pitkanen is the all-around leader. He plays the most minutes (26:30) and has the most points (seven assists) this post-season. He, Dennis Seidenberg, Joe Corvo and Tim Gleason all played more than half of Game 7 against Boston. After notching 22 points in the final 24 games of the regular season, Anton Babchuk has disappeared and was a scratch the final game of the Boston series. Frantisek Kaberle and Niclas Wallin are the fifth and sixth defenders now. Edge: Pittsburgh"

Fuck THN. Little in the way of offensive punch or depth?

Here are our top 7 defensemen totals:
Corvo: 14 24 38
Babchuck: 16 19 35
Pitkanen: 7 26 33
Seidenberg: 5 25 30
Gleason: 0 12 12
Wallin: 2 8 10
Kaberle: 1 7 8 (in 30 games)

Total: 45 121 166

Pittsburgh's top 7
Letang: 10 23 33
Goligoski: 6 14 20
Gonchar: 6 13 19 (in 25 games)
Orprick: 2 17 19
Scuderi: 1 15 16
Gill: 2 8 10
Boucher: 3 6 9

Total: 30 93 123

We have 4 30 point defensemen, they would have only 2 with a full year of Gonchar.

Go Canes!

• This one is going to be a ton of fun to watch, but, in the end, the Canes don't have an adequate answer for Crosby and Malkin. As long as Fleury doesn't completely lose his mind, the Pens should be able to dictate how things go in this one. Penguins in six.

Scott Burnside covers the NHL for ESPN.com."

don't use ticketmaster. go to the box office to buy your tickets. saves over $10 a ticket in convenience charges.
