FTW.

The only people who ought to be buying new cars are people who have the income/assets not to even blink at the purchase price, and could easily pay cash if they wish....assuming the rest of their financial house is in perfect ready-to-retire-right-now-if-I-wanted-to condition. In that case, it's a luxury the person has earned, and the financial hit is meaningless.

At the risk of ranting like an old man, kids these days think they're naturally entitled to things it took their parents 30 years to earn: a nice house, a nice car, nice clothes, and on and on.

In answer to the OP, as should be obvious now - I've never seen a car roll over 100k. And I don't plan to.

Even if I won a contest and got a free, brand new car of any kind, I'd sell the thing, pocket the cash and keep driving my regular car.

Some folks have no appreciation for what $10-25k really is. And they're willing to spend it just so that they can have slightly more comfortable seats, slightly better speakers, and an appearance of wealth for the 1-5 hours a week they are in the car.

1) 2000 Honda Accord coupe

2) just outside of Burlington on the way back from the Asheboro Zoo. I had noticed it was close to 100,000 on the way out of town, but I guess I got caught up in convo and missed the epic rollover, because I noticed it at 100,017 when we stopped at Moe's. Dammit.

3) sure do. I heart my car.

1)1982 Chevy Malibu

2) Inner Beltline, just north of Western Blvd, some time in 2003

3) Could still be running, not sure. I sold it to MadaSnik84 in November '04, he was going to either fix it up for his younger brother, or use it as a parts car for his Malibu and Century.

That's the only car I've personally driven when it hit 100K. My first 3 cars all had over 100K when I got them, my previous one was totaled at around 72k, and my current car is sitting just under 82K.

dont remember

I still have it, thinking of getting another vehicle....is doing pretty good, just had it forever and I think I want to upgrade a bit at the end of this year.....of course, I was planning on upgrading the end of last year also....but if it isnt broke, why fix it? I have had this car for 14 years (I was the second owner)...just kinda ready for an upgrade. This is my second car..the first one my parents bought when I turned 16 and thank god I got that one because one week afterwards I basicially totaled it (got it fixed, last through junior year in HS, then gave to brother when I bought my current car, he promptly blew out the motor).

I forgot to include my parents 1992 Chevy Astro van which they hit around the 186,000 range until my little bro wrecked it, as much as Im done buying anything with the word Chevy attached to it, my parent's van was a good purchase.

Got news for you...I'll never buy anything brand new unless I make my million. And it will be paid for with cash.

I'm damn mechanically savvy, and I'll tell you this: there are plenty of cars out there that aren't even close to the halfway point at 100k. I've had one that died at 327k after an old man in a Chevy conversion van rear ended it. '84 Nissan Sentra wagon. Another kicked the bucket with about 290k miles...transmission shit the bed. '84 Nissan Maxima. When I took the engine apart, it was spotless and showed little wear. I suppose if I had changed the transmission fluid every now and then, it would have gone farther. '88 Stanza wagon--288k. Bought by a Nigerian fellow.

If I don't get 250k out of a car, then I haven't gotten my money's worth. My current car...'03 Honda Accorde coupe with 146k miles on it. I bought it with 90k and have put maybe 300 bucks TOPS into maintenance. Runs like a charm.

I've owned quite a few more cars than this, and they all lived significantly longer than 100k. A third of them were free...because nobody wanted them, and I am that damn good.
