Nobody is going to catch him... the lowest score I can find is a 66 (5 under) in the whole tourney.

ziegler, horshcel and langely have a shot, but they'll have to have phenomenal days. i looked at horshcel's score card and he had 4 birdies in a row. but the day before he had like 4-5 bogeys in a row.

i saw this one kid near the bottom, talk about inconsistency,

he shot a 77, then a 67, then an 80.

Some girl needs to be ready to suck him off once he gets back.

note: I know it's the soccer championship trophy, but I couldn't find a good one of the golf trophy.

Pretty good accomplishment. Already beat Tim Clark's school record for tournament wins as a sophomore and Clark has had a great run in the pros. He has the game to play well for many years to come. GG Matt Hill.

^Carl Pettersson and Tim Clark

sadly golf is one of the professional sports that State guys actually do decent in (that and the decent amount of NFL guys)

Pettersson has won on tour a few times and Clark always puts up a good fight and has gone down to the wire a couple of times and beaten Tiger once at the match play. I would say golf is second after football with how our guys are fairing professionally at the moment.

I forgot about Pettersson. Isn't he from Sweden? Thanks for the reminder.

^You realize there is the potential to have a Wolfpack player on both teams in the NBA finals right?

^^And why did you preface that with "sadly?" While it isn't as widely popular as other pro sports, it's still a high-profile, highly publicized sport. The PGA is also one of the most (if not THE most) charitable professional sports organizations. I for one am quite proud to have NCSU grads on the leaderboards. Give me the PGA over the NBA anytime.

^^The two guys on the tour will make more money than Hickson and Powell this year, and no one will be drafted this year. NC State is more of a golf school than a BBall school now, haha.

Marc Turnesa is also on the PGA Tour. Clark/Petterson are top 50 world players. Not many schools can boast those kind of numbers.

If he dropped out of school today, he'd probably have a 1/4 million dollar bonus from manufacturers by this time next Friday, just based on hype.

I completely agree with you. Golf was one of my favorite sports growing up and the sport I played the most after age 14 or 15 probably. I guess I put sadly in there because I know most people would rather us have a ton of players in the NBA or NFL since those are the two most high profile sports in the U.S.

Pettersson is a great guy too. For any of you in the RDU area, he shot a 59 at Treyburn Country Club in Durham from the very back of every tee about a year or maybe now two years ago. That course, from their gold tees, is over 7000 yards and he played from the very back of all those tees. It is fully private but I got to play it twice in high school golf matches and a few other times with employees that I knew that could get on the course. It is not easy and it really made me appreciate how good those guys are when I read about the round he had out there.

While looking through the Local Qualifying results from the open (which Hill won) I found this:
Quote :
"05/18/09
PINEHURST, N.C. - PINEWILD COUNTRY CLUB

DAVID SANCHEZ - PINEHURST, N.C. 70
GRAYSON MURRAY(a) - RALEIGH, N.C. 71
DUSTIN BRAY - CHARLESTON, S.C. 72
JACK FIELDS(a) - SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. 72
MATT HENDRIX - GREENVILLE, S.C. 72
SCOTT USHER - BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. 72
A - ANDY BARE - WEST END, N.C. 72
A - MATT DAVIDSON - CHAPEL HILL, N.C. 72"

So here is a pretty good little article on this kid. Apparently he is 15 and has won his age group for the third consecutive time at the junior World Golf Championships.
http://www.worldgolf.com/newswire/browse/56732-Raleigh-Teen-Golfing-Sensation-Has-Tiger-His-Sights
Maybe you guys have heard of him, but I thought it was pretty impressive, regardless of where he is from.

^^ He was at the Columbus Qualifier.

Shot a 143 when he needed a 136 or better to do it.

Matt Hill Canada 73-70-143

However he is not listed with the (a) amateur symbol. What gives?

Jerry shot a 69 and a 71 in the 36 holes and missed the cut by 2 strokes. He did beat John Daly and Kirk Tripplett though.

Jerry Richardson Jr Burlington, N.C. 69-71-140
Kirk Triplett Scottsdale, Ariz. 74-68-142
John Daly Memphis, Tenn. 73-70-143

only a matter of time until he gets on the tour.

B) Why is his flag a US Flag when he is from Canada?

good questions ...

So, if he finishes in 68, where he currently is, he will make about 12k for the weekend...

Never looked at the full purse distributions before, but it does not seem like there is alot of money coming from these purses ... difference between 50th and 70th is only like 3k...

^ this event is mostly for charity thus the purses are small. If the purses were larger u'd see more big names there.
