FroshKiller and I met at the beginning of Fall '01 but were dating other people at the time. As members of the grammar ninja triumvirate though hanging out together was inevitable so we started doing a lot more of that around the end of 2003. We're very disagreeable people so we had no shortage of difficulties in dealing with our emotional intimacy. I can't even count how many times I broke up up with him between 2004 and 2006, sometimes for longer than a few days !! It was ridiculous and I was crazy.

We moved in together in July of 07 on account of him needing a roommate who didn't do drugs or have a dog that eat'd all his food and consequently get diarrhea 6' up on the walls and it was about time I stopped mooching off my parents. We got a joint SECU account together to do bill paying but it was pretty clear by then we were serious. We had taken marriage for granted as a step along the way and hadn't put too much thought into it, but our peers were taking the step (notably punchmonk + qntmfred in 2005, Kitty B + Monkeychow in 2007, nothing22 & al) and our families were getting on our nerves asking about it, so we got married on Halloween 2008. Like Lauren & MJ we were very not religious but we liked food so we got married in a restaurant with family and friends of our moms (because weddings are for moms) and had a party the next day (Saturday) for the social recognition with our friends.

Oh and that entire thing with the police blotter? I was there for him the whole time and OMG THE STORIES. It would be lame if we hadn't gotten married after all of that.

Yeah. It used to really bother me but now that I've met her and understand more about the way they grew up I'm coming to accept it.

we got married so i could get a visa so we'd have a chance to live together longer than a few months. international relationships are hard . The Canadian border police denied me re-entry about a week before our planned wedding in Montreal, which both of our families and friends were going to attend, so all our plans had to be canceled last minute. we got married alone in the tiny town of Newport, Vermont, in the town library which was in a nice old Victorian house. I wore a white suit and he wore a black cashmere sweater i`d gotten him for christmas since we couldnt find a suit on short notice. it was snowing like crazy and i had a bouquet of yellow and white roses because thats all the town florist had in stock (the red ones had been bought for a funeral, haha). it was exciting and romantic, but the wedding night wasnt much to speak of because my husband had a flute of champagne at dinner despite his alcohol allergy, and that put him out for the night.

we had a reception in raleigh about a month later at the capital city club. I had picked them because i was able to make all the plans in the 2 weeks I came down to visit my mom before the wedding. they did everything great, but i think my reception was probably boring to the people that came, but i dont care as it was mostly for my parents to be happy (they cried when we said we were going to elope before we moved. if wed done that, everything would have been fine dammit).

2 weeks has turned into 7 months and i haven't been back home yet, so its hard. however, i cant imagine what else they can ask me to submit for my visa application as the last thing i mailed in was a disposition and explanation of a speeding ticket i got 4 years ago!

its weird to be married but not with my husband on a day to day basis. i guess our marriage means that we hope the future will be happier than the present, no matter how star crossed we may be.
