Why do people want to get away from the capitalist system that made this country great? Had we been socialist or communist all this time, we would not be where we are today. Its as if people enjoy the benefits of the system we have had, but are ready to throw it away at the drop of a hat. Are we just part of a generation that never had to struggle for anything so we don't value what we have?

Great point! Capitalism works! We have made the right decisions and brought our standard of living up to where it is today. It has been through hard work and innovation that we live in a country where we can go to college and get good paying jobs with benefits. Those who choose to keep economic systems that do not promote individual excellence result in what you are talking about, third world countries with people working for next to nothing. I do not wish to lower my standard of living or yours. The decisions that people make have consequences. We have it great here in the US, so why would anyone want to throw that away and lower our standards?

Our "poor" are rich compared to the third world people you are talking about. And, if someone wants to get a job and make something of themselves, they can. That's what this country is all about. That's why all of us have decided to go to college. We want to be exceptional. We want the higher paying jobs, benefits, nice houses, cars, etc. that come along with working hard. We are all examples of what made America great. If what I said isn't true then why would we invest at least four years of our lives to getting a college education? Why would we pay the tuition, room and board? We do it because we understand that success requires sacrifice and hard work. Those who choose not to invest in themselves probably won't do as well financially as we will. This is the American way, and this is why we are a great nation. Taking from those who have worked hard and giving to those who haven't goes against the values that have made this country great. I hear a lot of this spreading the wealth from Obama. I am honestly very concerned for our country. You can not increase the number of people taking money from the government while at the same time reducing the number of people who are able to pay the government. The equation doesn't add up.
