Argue all you want Durham sucks donkey dicks and licks dinosaur balls.
6/10/2009 2:11:14 PM
I certainly wouldn't put Durham in a "best places to live" list but it's not the shithole some of you ignorant fucks make it out to be. Sure it has some less than desirable areas in it (what city doesn't?) but it's also got plenty of nice areas, some great restaurants/bars and tons of stuff to do. I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people talking shit about Durham have either never been there or only been once or twice.

i think based on the definition the article used:

Durham might be the 5th best city in the Triangle. If there are only 4 other cities that are better to live in the entire US then our country is an absolute shithole.

Cheers! To everyone and their armchair theories about Durham. It's pretty apparent who in this thread has actually spent a good bit of time in Durham.

i like durham, i think it has characteronly parts of the city are "unsafe" and it is pretty easy to just stay away from those areas.i also realize that a lot of what i like about durham (food, music, community, local shops) is not everyone's cup of tea.

you act like Raleigh is some city up north with a 10% minority population...

Durham's new slogan:Durham: There's a good chance you won't get stabbed in the neck with scissors the way that one lady did.http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/5442343/

i've been to durham only a few times and it really wasn't that bad. of course i continue to sign on to the anti-durham rhetoric that takes place. i can safely say that 90% of the people who talk about how bad durham is these days and how dangerous it is haven't actually been and just know that a lot of black people live there. sadly, to a lot of middle class whites any place blacks live is the ghetto. there are some nice areas past brentwood off capital and some nice areas near the walnut creek area that are black dominated neighborhoods but passerbys feel unsafe and refer to it as the ghetto.

The thing I hated about Durham is that it was almost impossible to get to a lot of places without cutting through some sketchy areas or going way out of your way. I dunno...Try cutting across the heart of Durham to get from I-40 to I-85 without going all the way to Miami Blvd sometime. I mean, I love when people yell "WTF YOU WANT" every time I pull up to a stop sign as much as anyone, but eventually it gets old. You just don't have that problem in Raleigh. One summer about a decade ago I took a delivery job for a drug company. I used to deliver the drugs to some clinic in the neighborhood just south of 147 at Alston Ave. Shit was sketchy as hell back then. I know things can change, but I can't say that I really care to revisit the neighborhood to see how it has developed. Sure there are pockets in Raleigh that aren't too friendly, but it's pretty unlikely that you're going to take an exit off I-40 or 440 and get dropped off into a neighborhood run by gangs who just hang out on the street all day.

^3 sounds like behind the taco bell on western.also if you're on i-40 why not just take the exit to i-85 off of i-40 instead of taking i-40 to 281 (miami) to 70 to I-85? to me this seems the only way you'd reach miami; regardless, miami isn't bad at all.
6/29/2009 10:04:56 AM
alston ave. is definitely sketch though
