I wasn't being a snob earlier. I was just saying how a lot of people, especially college douchebags, like to go out and blow their load on fancy shit like this and it's completely unnecessary when they don't even know how to half play the goddamned thing. My guitar collection consists of 2 "decent" acoustics that are excellent for my needs and I don't think either one of them was over $500. I've definitely fancied some nicer ones, but I can't justify going out and busting 2+ grand on an instrument I'm not going to use in a (profitable) band or even entertain many other people with for that matter...

Hell, this entire thread is kinda dumb. There is no "best" guitar. There are a bunch of shitty ones, definitely. It depends on what sound you're looking for. Definitely wouldn't use a Gibson acoustic for say, Bluegrass, but they are excellent for other things.

By the way, for those of you into the Martins - if I were ever going to consider a Martin acoustic I'd go with a Collings. I've heard so many great things about them over some of the junk that Martin is putting out these days and when you're spending that much on something, the relative price increase doesn't matter when you know you're getting something a lot more awesome and better qualilty as well...

i suppose this is true. just whenever i think phish-guy's tone i instantly think of feedback while playing with the knobs for 15 or 20 minutes.

thanks dude. I have a "lower" S too, an S470 DXQM. It was my first S after having RGs and Roadstars my whole playing career, and I loved it so much I decided to get a better one

I would like a nice RG550 at some point too though.

Paul Waggoner from BTBAM/Prayer for Cleansing was the reason I really wanted my first S. I always loved his older Ibanez S540LTD in stained mahogany. looks like this:

They hadn't made one like that in awhile, but when they released the one I got last year, in the same old school finish, 24 frets for the first time, the thinner neck, and made in Japan for the first time in a long time, I had to jump on it.

My other favorite S is the 1989 S540LTD in DY:

Our lead player recently switched from using an S for a long long time, to using an RG Prestige, but I've been super happy with my S guitars. I don't feel like I lost any tone or "heaviness" stepping from RGs/RS to S yet I'm playing a much less cumbersome guitar that is very light and comfortable to use live.

I own an Ovation and love it.

My dream guitar is a twelve string Seagull.

^^ I have a 12 string, granted it's no Seagull, but I really don't use it as much as I thought I would, there's really just not that much you can play on a 12 string, that I know of at least
