for starters that anecdotal story which you discussed was actually a movie, a fictional one at that. i can't recall the name but a quick google search will affirm this for you. a similar movie is band of angels.


furthermore those kids are not mixed. to suggest that if people disagree with you that they don't have the experience with people of other races is not only untrue but is also absurdly lofty and insulting. but of course, that was your intent.

the majority of mixed kids will not have blue eyes. mixed babies are often born with blue eyes but as time passes (usually the first few months to 18 months) the eyes become gradually darker, some times stopping at only hazel but often times transitioning into a lighter warmer brown.

the hair is the other thing that is off. sure, there are products and hair care that could be used to straighten their hair, but even then the hair can be visually identified as a mix. even when flexible and straight at the bottom the hair often curls at longer lengths. the odds that both kids would turn out with that little degree of a tan and with straight hair is highly improbable.

i understand some of you want to make the point that it is possible and that we should open our eyes to the subjective definition of race. but i think what you are failing to understand is that isn't the point we are arguing and most of us agree with you. the point being made, at least by me, is that while it is possible for those kids to appear like that the likelihood that not just one but both would appear pale, with straight long flexible hair, and light eyes is improbable to such a high degree that it is bordering the impossible.

I think that it is foolish to assume that those children could not be biracial, especially in America. A study led by Mark Shriver has looked at genetic markers in African Americans that show that African Americans have 17-18 percent European (white) ancestry. With that taken into consideration, you should expect to see a wide range of appearance in children of mixed race.

Anyway, growing up in the south and spending a lot of time in South Carolina, I have seen a lot of high yellow, pecan tan, and "white blacks." Those kids are not what my grandmother and people of the old system would call white.

its not that improbable. at all really. its not as simple as ..."oh you have two dominant genes, or one recessive on dominant, or two recessive". at all.

you have there are many, many, many, many, many other factors that contribute to genetics.

the baby with blue eyes has a "birth defect" and the twin thing even though it happens its quite rare. I want to say something along the lines of 1 out of 100million, but can't recall the exact statistic.

i've actually read that genetic study quite a few times and what you posted is a distortion of the truth. the study showed that african americans have up to that percentage and its higher in areas such as pennsylvania that were part of the underground rail road. in the south it can be very low admixture. charleston and surrounding areas typically have blacks with 0 - 2% admixture. typically around the us the admixture borders on 5 - 7%

in other news he even found that he was 25% african markers although he appears white. he didn't know he had any black lineage. those kids look white as hell IMO, and people of the old ways don't consider italians or jews white, so thats not saying much.

^^if they came out super black, like obama i would find it easier to believe they were mixed because skin tone and eye color are so dominant. i understand its not a cut and try this gene will over power that one every time. but its how they both look and who there dad was that makes me suspect otherwise. this has been stated perviously. as has the fact that i think we all understand phenotype and genotype can be very different.

For what it's worth my dad is darker than MJ was and I am pretty white. My brother is a little darker, but only as to be mistaken for a Tibetan monk when he wears orange and his head's shaved.
