i downloaded the program and tested it with no problems.

i ask how to fix something i don't like and he tells me to look at the Help menu. i'm only using this browser because ya'll told me to, so the least you could do is answer my question about the fucking spellcheck.

i is fine

i'm is underlined but i'm surprised you notice the errors if you're typing so fast as to not capitalize correctly

i honestly never notice unless i'm actually trying to spell something, but i like the spellcheck b/c it saves my ass from grammar nazis calling out spelling or some shit

that's some trivial shit, but given that you're going into it looking for things to hate go right ahead back to IE

i'm not looking for things to hate about FF, i just asked how to fix it because i don't particularly like red lines underneath a bunch of stuff.

i like the fact that if i post in chatterbox the window is in the middle and not in the top right. also when i get the properties on a picture in order to post a picture, i like the format of the box that pops up way better than in IE.

i don't get how IE is so out of date.

AOL is out of date. Netscape Navigator is way out of date. IE is not, so why act like i'm doing some huge injustice to the world by using it? it's just stupid.

IE and/or FF - FB Chat still won't connect. i'm confused.

No one said IE is out of date.

There are just lots of better options out there. People who still use IE are old or dumb or Stein.

It's Facebook's problem, not yours, not IE's, not FF's

We've been over this already

and she did it quick too

but the spelling thing is an easy fix if it really bothers you

FB chat does blow generally, if it used to work it's probably facebook fucking something up

IE has done a decent job catching up, but it's still the target to many more exploits and hacks b/c so many people use it and microsoft is often slow as hell updating to fix security issues

sorry for getting "un-chill" but seriously...i asked a simple question about FB Chat not being online on the new IE8 because it worked fine before the install, but after the install it wouldn't connect. i tried to preface the thread by saying i wasn't interested in Firefox, and guess what....it immediately turned into a "if you don't have FF you are a horrible person" thread, which is pretty much what i should have expected. i mean, damn people, can't you just answer a question if you know how to answer it, and leave well enough alone if you don't know the answer? i really fucking hate this site sometimes.

^i turned off the red lines under all my lowercased pronouns and my un-punctuated contractions and now i got no beef with FF

the whole idea behind having you download and try firefox was to see if it was a browser issue or if it was a FB chat issue

and we pinpointed it as an issue with FB chat

there is nothing you can do

you received help, even though you fought it, bitched, and moaned about it

FF is popular for the same reason Apple is popular.

Everybody has it because everybody has it.

It is "better" simply because (in firefox' case) you're automatically seen as "more tech savvy" or "smarter" if you use FF - because like apple, obviously FF is 100% free of problems and is virus free. People look down on you for using IE and claim IE is a piece of shit, 99% of the time without reason. If you ask for reason they'll usually say you don't know enough about computers to understand.

I know quite a lot of developers, networking specialists, you name it. Most of them use IE because FF simply won't do everything they need. I can think of a couple of people who use FF - both of which have an apple and i'm sure for the same reasons. Self gratifaction. They probably believe that humans have a big effect on global warming too.

I've been on the internet for 15 years now. I've never had a problem with IE. When I have had problems, it's been with my ISP, various hardware issues, or some other random issue. Never have I had a problem that FF would solve (i've tried). I personally hate FF. I don't like the layout, it takes a LOT longer to load than IE does, I have a lot less issues with plugins on IE, and IE typically runs faster for me.

FF !> IE

apple !> pc

The problem was that FB Chat worked just fine before the upgrade to IE8, so I just naturally assumed it had something to do with the upgrade. It didn't dawn on me that maybe FB Chat was just sorta crapping out at the time.

I downloaded FF to test the theory and realized that FB Chat was broken on there too. So, it was FB's problem, and the case was closed.

What I didn't need was a bunch of people telling me I was stupid for using IE, using FB Chat, or just operating a computer in general. But as I said before...I should have expected it from Chit Chat.

^^You see this is the common misconception.

In this case it still isn't IE8's problem. It isn't IE8's job to make that program work, it's Facebook's job. Windows rarely fails because of actual Windows problems, it's usually a driver issue. Drivers are not written by Windows. The driver errors that crash Windows are the fault of the manufacturer. Give it time and facebook will figure it out.

Oh yeah, FB figured it out and it was back up and working by like 11:30pm last night I think. I'm not so technologically savvy that I know these things though. Suddenly FB Chat wasn't connecting. The only thing I knew that had changed was my upgrade to IE8 so of course....assumptions and all that jazz.

Don't worry, I won't come here for computer advice ever again.

I have nothing against you personally, I don't know you. Don't take offense to this.

The thought process you just outlined is the sole reason Apple is able to succeed. They don't make a superior product. They simply rely on consumers not being aware of exactly how the computer market works.

Hahah I'm not offended by that. I know I'm not a computer-savvy kinda girl. But I like to think I know my way around, I've been on computers in one way or another since I was 12. I just didn't really appreciate the reaction I got out of these guys. FF is better because it's better. End of story. Whatever dude.

I really don't give a fuck what browser anyone uses. To me, Firefox is a superior browser, but there's no point in arguing about it. No one here is going to be compelled to change their opinion.

With that said, slingblade's rant above is worse than anything thumper has posted in this thread. This part especially made me laugh:

Quote :
"I know quite a lot of developers, networking specialists, you name it. Most of them use IE because FF simply won't do everything they need."

There really are tons of areas where FF is the better browser. Few of them would be relevant to someone who can't figure out why FB chat isn't working. If you just need to read TWW, chat on FB, and check the weather or whatever, you can basically using anything that supports JS and images. You probably won't see any added benefit from using FF.

It all boils down to everyone having their own preference. My personal philosophy: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

So why download FF when IE works just fine for me?
