I drink Budweiser bottles and am not a hipster in the least, and I very much enjoy jackpot. It's dark and the right brand of shitty with cool bartenders and good music. Great place to watch people, meet people, or go with your people and not be bothered.

Calling it hipster is selling it short though. While a cross-section of the crowd contains a significant amount of those that fall squarely within that category (whatever that actually means, assuming you're pegging hipsters with their tattoos, beards, plugs, and PBR), the rest of it is just generally music-oriented "alternative" folks that avoid the coked-up polo and hiphop scenes of so much of downtown. And I'll take the former any day, at least they're generally decent people that keep to themselves.

Besides, the conversations are waaaay more interesting at jp.

I like The Jackpot and I can always find some people I know in there, but that place has got to be one of the smokiest bars left in Raleigh and I hate it for that reason. It stanks. The walls and ceiling are yellowed/browned from all the smoking. Even people I know who smoke don't like that place for the smoke. Get some ventilation plz.

jackpot is a crapshoot.

the first time i went they played a bunch of iron maiden and i drank pbr and smoked and partied. i thought it was the best bar ever.

then the next couple times i saw the more insidious hip side of jackpot, with a bunch of rat-a-tat playing and fags doing performance art dancing.

however, i went friday night after getting drunk at a friend's place and i had a great time
