I've had 2 pres since I got mine (first one had a defect with the camera)

I could log in to tww with my first pre, which I couldn't log in when I had it replaced. I've never heard of another pre that could log in to TWW, but my first one could

I just figured it out, it won't login to thewolfweb.com .... But brentroad.com is fine .... Wow that was frustrating, and I wish they would fix the problem; but now that I know, I'll just bookmark the correct site.

There's something wrong with this site (but of course we all knew that) ... I can't even manage to replicate the problem anywhere else.

brentroad.com does work for me ... but try http://www.brentroad.com too?

^If you mean not have stuttered performance, then it won't ... the new software update that is about to push for WebOS 1.2 has massive performance increases, so it'll also fix the slight lag we've been seeing on the Pre.

Still love the phone.

I'd actually rather see that than the iPhone on Verizon...and I would try to get one of these

In this case, Palm chose to use the Qualcomm MSM7627, a smaller chip which enabled them to mint the micro form factor. The CPU itself isn't dramatically different than the 7200 series, though it is noticeably less charged than the TI OMAP3 chip in the Pre."

the annoying thing is i frequently have to hit refresh when i go somewhere on tdub, otherwise i will just see the most recent page loaded

also, the pre has an annoying habit of clearing my login cookies once every few weeks.

WebOS 1.2 Update went live today. There were a LOT of changes. Palm needs to keep this level of improvement up, the phone is already prepared to surpass the functionality of the iPhone soon if they don't slow down.

Full Changelog here:
http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/pre/p100eww/sprint/solutions/article/50607_en.html#12

A few things of note (in my opinion):

- JavaScript engine (ie, speed) improvements GALORE; the OS doesn't feel slightly sluggish anymore, and the phone app is no longer sluggish on incoming calls anymore. I mean, you'd expect as much, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and they pulled through after a few months, good job Palm!!

- Type to search is now in the email app; just type to find by subject, from, to, or CC (message body coming soon)

- Full text support in web browser for cut/copy/paste

- Images in an email or webpage can be copied to the Photo Album with a simple Orange+Tap

- Downloading files in the web browser is now supported, and will open the related document app

- Gestures in a few places relating to OS interaction were improved; ie, the thin top menu can now be down-swiped rather than awkwardly tapped

- Many calendar usability improvements, including location mapping

- Alerts no longer blast at full volume with on a phone call (yaaaaay for simple fixes! )

- LinkedIN profile now available to integrate with Synergy Contacts

- Contacts are now able to be emailed or stuffed into a vCard

- Multiple Exchange accounts supported; and the associated policies are now fully and properly enforced

- Text messaging has "Copy All" to text so you can paste into an email or otherwise

- Many various Email and Text message app improvements and fixes

- Many UI and functionality enhancements to various apps throughout the OS

All that, plus ... Palm and Sprint are actively encouraging the Homebrew community. What a breath of fresh air that is.

I tried the pre for a little while, but ended up going with the HTC Hero

as for the people having issues with the pre and logging into TWW: apparently the pre doesn't work with websites coded with VBScript (TWW), flash, shockwave, or WML script

Palm's webOS continues to get better and better. I am very happy I have the Palm Pre and would recommend it to anyone.

Patches (to modify OS functionality) and Homebrew apps are as easy as installing "Preware" and then browsing what's available and tapping to install it. Palm is still being very helpful and working with the community developers. Great stuff.

That is all.

^^^After this recent patch is it still not working for you? They fixed a lot of browser issues and it seems to be working properly for me now.

I tried a friends Pre out...despite a couple of flashy things, I couldn't get over how less smooth it felt when compared to an iphone. any scrolling/swiping felt jagged instead of smooth. is it underpowered or something?

No, they are only utilizing the processor right now for all things including graphics. The GPU is the same as the iPhone GS but they haven't finished developing webOS to use it. Rumor is that's coming early next year.

However, with each update, including the last, they have made massive speed increases with the JavaScript rendering engine and it is not laggy in all but a few instances.

The Pre Plus and Pixi Plus are available on verizon now. Looks like Palm doubled the flash (16GB) and ram (512MB) from the original Pre, added the touchstone battery cover, got rid of the home button and changed the keyboard build quality. Full retail on the Pre Plus is $599.

WebOS 1.4 is being pushed.... with video recording AND editing, and Adobe Flash! I don't care how horrible Flash is, I am happy to have it available as an option so that I can actually visit sites that stupidly use it. The call log fixes look pretty great too. Looking forward to the update.

Video recording sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaRMnyhDph4

Rumored Changelog:

"On 2/26, Friday evening, Pre and Pixi device users will receive an Over the Air (OTA) notification to download the new 1.4 webOS software release.

This release includes both fixes and feature updates (listed below).

Fixes:

Time Zone bug fixed
Network time sync bug fixed to reflect accurate Network time
Bluetooth car-kit transition to device corrected
No EV icon bug fixed (random)
Random browser formatting bugs fixed
Fixed bug that incorrectly displayed Sprint when actually was Digital Roaming
Missing Contact issue specifically with swap down to 1.2.9.1 or less

Feature Updates:

Phonebook Transfer (import & export)
Adds Video Capture capability & edit
Calendar Enhancements
Messaging Enhancements
Improved Performance (Phone & CAL)
Email Enhancements
Notification Enhancements
Adds Adobe Flash 10.0 (Pre Only)

1.4 is out. (for Sprint)

Quote :

I continually would somehow press it with my face and never be able to end the call as quickly as I wanted to sometimes.

Updated my phone.

^^ You lose. It's not laggy at all, in fact there is no more lag with anything now, it's another brilliant update by Palm.

The call log history update was much needed, and ^I agree.

The enhancements to messaging, email, and calendar are very helpful.

Video recording and editing is flawless and the ability to share to YouTube/Facebook/MMS/Email works great.

The Flash player isn't available for download yet, so we'll see about that when it is.

Well, the changelog says it all so I won't go down the list ... but once again Palm pushes an update that further develops a strong mobile platform.

I'm happy to be on WebOS.

so I've had my palm pre for almost a week and I absolutely love it. the only problems I have so far are:

- the tiny vibrate notification. it's pretty easy to miss it if it's in my pocket and not directly on my leg. I haven't found any apps to fix this problem yet but I'm sure it will come out someday
- the other problem is the battery life obviously, but it's more than enough through the day if I'm getting good service or am utilizing WiFi. I didn't notice it being way better after the 1.4 update

Elevation Partners doesn't care, they see this on a 10-year plan.

http://www.reuters.com/article/idCAN1916520720100319?rpc=44

Quote :
"But Elevation, which bought a 25 percent stake in Palm for $325 mln in 2007, said the smartphone maker still has "enormous opportunity" and backed its management led by Chief Executive and Chairman Jon Rubinstein, a former member of Elevation who is also famous for developing Apple's iPod.

"Jon and his team have built the best mobile operating system available today and they are now working through short-term execution challenges with Elevation's complete support," Elevation said through a spokesman.

Elevation, a private equity firm that includes U2 lead singer Bono among its partners, has made three more investments in Palm since its initial deal, buying common stock, convertible preferred shares and warrants.

Elevation, which now controls roughly 30 percent of Palm, has also named former Apple executives Fred Anderson and Roger McNamee to Palm's 7-member board."

Palm in Deep Trouble; Halts Pre, Pixi Production
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=17943

Quote :
"To put Palm's unfortunate failure in context, Google's Android sold 5.5 million units in Q4 2009 and Apple moved 7.5 million iPhones. That means that Palm's sales for entire quarter are approximately the number of units Apple or Google sell in a single week.

Even if Palm was incredibly able to continue the sales pace of its Pre and Pixi (which is perhaps possible given its new Verizon contact), it would take nearly a year before it could sell off its stock. By then new Android handsets would have arrived, a new iPhone, and Windows Mobile 7 -- all while Palm is stuck trying to unload increasingly dated handsets."

Optimized WebOS 1.4 Kernel Overclocked to 800 MHz, Easy Install for Pre phones.

http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre-tips-information-resources/238141-b-optimized-webos-1-4-kernel-video-wosqi-720mhz-800-mhz-easy-install-b.html

The Pre runs at 500Mhz natively, and of the almost 700 posts to the thread just today with hundreds having already taken the plunge to 800Mhz there are no negative posts yet talking about a destroyed phone.

Impressive.

I just threw away a Tungsten earlier today. Palm's time is coming to a close. Good innovation in their day, but maybe it'd be better if their technology were retired, or at least put in the hands of competent executives.
