fuck it, double post for one ballsy/idiotic law student..

^^^ perhaps not, but the by-products of being an asshole can be....

Speaking of which, this shit is HILARIOUS ...

http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=526274

Quote :
"Charles C. Simpkins, a third-year law student has been charged with two counts, including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to Jake Wark, press secretary for the Suffolk County District Attorney.

According to the police report, Simpkins drunkenly stumbled out of a bar in Boston’s Theater District and entered a parked BPD cruiser.

Simpkins told officers, “Give me a (expletive) ride, I work for the district attorney’s office,” later adding that he would be willing to “lie and cheat” in order to ruin them.

Simpkins had been working as an intern at the Dorchester District Courthouse since September 2007.

The DA terminated Simpkins’ internship on Jan. 26, the Monday after prosecutors learned of his arrest.

if you're a loud asshole towards a cop there is... it won't amount to anything but they can arrest you pretty much at will and there isn't anything you can really do about it.

I had to crawl through my window once to get into my house. Neighbor pulled up while I was just getting in, so he did not see that it was me - just somebody going through a window. He called the police and they came out, asked for ID, and without thinking twice produced it. They went back to their car for a few minutes, came back and handed me my ID back and left.

Had this man produced his ID when the cop asked for it, the issue would have been over right then and there.

If I see two guys attempting to shoulder in a front door to a house, I'm probably going to call the police, out of goodwill toward my neighbor - not because I'm a racist.

The only thing I don't get in the whole story is why did the person who called the cops not recognize the professor. My only thought was that maybe there was a front porch, and through the shadow the neighbor couldnt tell who the professor was.

Later I went and thanked the neighbor for being a good steward of the 'hood.

Hey, Republican18, should I just mentally translate "radical African American Studies professor" as "uppity nigger," or did you have a more flattering sentiment in mind and just made poor word choices?

do you talk to every occupant of every household in your block? much less know all of their faces. MUCH LESS be familiar with their builds to instantly recognize them at night as they are breaking into a house.

they left out this part:

Quote :
"After breaking the door into his own house, he immediately began preparing for his upcoming visit to the antiques road show by placing several of his more valuable possessions in a duffel bag. He briefly considered if his fathers glock was old enough to present for appraisal, but his thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door, so he tucked it in the waistband on his pants and answered it."

the guy showed his ID pretty quickly, and the cop still kept asking him to step out to the porch. If the cop in this case handled it like the cop in your case, things would have turned out okay.

According to Crowley's police report, he asked him for his harvard ID (i'm not sure why... Maybe he didn't believe he really worked for harvard...?)

Also according to Crowley's police report, gates gave him both the harvard ID AND his drivers license at the same time.

way to go stirring shit up you know nothing about, Obama.

what an idiot

Quote :
" CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - The white police sergeant criticized by President Barack Obama for arresting black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his Massachusetts home is a police academy expert on racial profiling.

Cambridge Sgt. James Crowley has taught a class on racial profiling for five years at the Lowell Police Academy after being hand-picked for the job by former police Commissioner Ronny Watson, who is black, said Academy Director Thomas Fleming.

"I have nothing but the highest respect for him as a police officer. He is very professional and he is a good role model for the young recruits in the police academy," Fleming told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The course, called "Racial Profiling," teaches about different cultures that officers could encounter in their community "and how you don't want to single people out because of their ethnic background or the culture they come from," Fleming said.

Obama has said the Cambridge officers "acted stupidly" in arresting Gates last week when they responded to his house after a woman reported a suspected break-in.

Crowley, 42, has maintained he did nothing wrong and has refused to apologize, as Gates has demanded.

Crowley responded to Gates' home near Harvard University last week to investigate a report of a burglary and demanded Gates show him identification. Police say Gates at first refused, flew into a rage and accused the officer of racism.

Gates was charged with disorderly conduct. The charge was dropped Tuesday.

Gates' supporters maintain his arrest was a case of racial profiling. Officers were called to the home by a woman who said she saw "two black males with backpacks" trying to break in the front door. Gates has said he arrived home from an overseas trip and the door was jammed.

Obama was asked about the arrest of Gates, who is his friend, at the end of a nationally televised news conference on health care Wednesday night.

"I think it's fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry," Obama said. "No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. And No. 3—what I think we know separate and apart from this incident—is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that's just a fact." "

Systemic racism is in the eye of the beholder. Anyone who has ever watched one of those History/Nat Geo channel shows on racist organizations should be aware of that.

^^ umm... no. Systemic racism manifests itself in studies and statistics (otherwise you couldn't call it systemic).

^ i'll take that bet

Quote :
"Moreover, Gates has argued that a separatist, Afrocentric education perpetuates racist stereotypes and maintains that it is "ridiculous" to think that only blacks should be scholars of African and African-American literature. He argues, "It can't be real as a subject if you have to look like the subject to be an expert in the subject,"[1] adding, "It's as ridiculous as if someone said I couldn't appreciate Shakespeare because I'm not Anglo-Saxon. I think it's vulgar and racist whether it comes out of a black mouth or a white mouth."[4]"

I saw on the first page where someone was suggesting the professor kind of baited the cop in order to be able to make an issue out of this.

I think that is what is going on on some level. I'm sure now that he's hit the national headlines, he'll at least sell a few more of his books.

Obama looks like an ASS over his comments. There is NO blown out of proportion. He's always claiming to be the guy that brings races together. His comments on this subject obviously shows he has no real intentions of doing this.

lol...so apparently the police officer in this case has, for the past 5 years, taught a class at the police academy on avoiding racial profiling.

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view.bg?articleid=1186708

Quote :
"Cambridge police Sgt. James Crowley, the cop at the center of a firestorm over the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., has taught a racial profiling class at the Lowell Police Academy for five years.

His academy class, which he teaches with a black police officer, instructs about 60 police cadets per year who spend 12 hours in the classroom, said Lowell Police Academy Director Thomas Fleming.

“He’s a very professional police officer and he’s a good role model,” Fleming said. “Former police commissioner Ronny Watson, who is a person of color, hand-picked Sgt. Crowley. ... I presume because he would be the most qualified and most professional. He’s a very good instructor. He gets very high reviews by the students.”

Watson, who is black, is the former Cambridge police commissioner."

^^ I have to say that Obama's statements actually had nothing to do with race at all. Strip the race issue away... it was an old man with a cane. I'm not taking sides, I don't know what happened, but his statements didn't have shit to do with race.

ALSO - don't y'all think it's pretty fucking ironic that the cop's name is JIM CROWley
