In the hour that I have played the demo tonight, I already enjoyed myself more than the entire time I've spent playing Modern Warfare 2. Bad Company 2 isn't remotely as polished nor is it as graphically as refined, but the gameplay is so much more interesting to me. It's going to take me a while to dial my new mouse in just right, but the aiming controls feel more responsive than the first game. Not being able to run diagonally is going to take some getting re-used to. The new 4-wheeler is hilariously fun. First time I jumped on one, I managed to run over a couple of enemies. I do wonder how different the finished product will be, though...

I've heard the console version is completely different in gameplay and graphics (obviously since PS3/360 can't do DX10/10.1/11)

I was playing with people who have the 360 demo and they said the PC was much more responsive and better hit detection.

Bad Company 1 was better in several ways - combat was more fluid, graphics seemed better to me, vehicles handled better and were better controlled, etc... The only thing Bad Company did to make their game better is make melee and grenade throwing a single button mash, and even then its unintuitive. I will say the weapon unlock system is pretty inspiring, but nothing extraordinary. I am about 80% sure that I'm going to cancel my pre-order. I just hope that there are still lots of people playing BC1.

I had fun sniping, but it was really tough because you have to pull the bolt after each shot and it takes a good 3 seconds.... I guess it is bc otherwise sniping would be too easy...? I dunno

^^^ Just curious, but what kind of numbers does the Windows Performance Information tool give you on all of that? My HDD seems to be the lowest number of my whole system (everything else is 7.2, but the stupid HDD is showing 5.9), and I'm contemplating seeing if I can do something about that. My GPU is a 9800GTX overclocked, and I don't know if it'd be worth it to jump up to the 200 family.

So far, Medic class is rocking the shit for me. I have at least a 12,000 point lead with that class over all the others. I am very much enjoying the changes to the vehicles as well. While they definitely feel "heavier," the benefit of directional armor is immediate. I went head-on in the Bradley against a guy with the RPG, and it only did 30 points of damage. The specialties for the vehicles are going to make them much more versatile, as well.

it infuriates me to no end that they don't have a lot of things for the PC version that is obviously a result of consoles

the server browser fucking blows. there's no sorting, for xx/xx for players (i.e. does a server with 15 people on it have 1 open slot or 16 open slots?), no auto retry join on full, no server details, and very limited filters

in game there is no showing of ping on the player list

there is no option for setting sensitivity of the mouse for foot vs. vehicle vs. air - that has to get fixed. even heroes has that option

i know it's a beta, but it's sad to see DICE put out something in the platform that made them who they are with such disregard for the install base.

that being said, i still am thoroughly enjoying the game and can't wait for launch

^ There are more play modes than the previous game. Rush is basically Gold Rush - same as the first game - except there are 2 game "sizes" for full teams or teams of only 4. I've also read that there is a squad deathmatch which uses a ticket system. I'm not sure about Conquest (ticket) mode yet, but I'd be shocked if this didn't have it.

This month's Game Informer previewed the game and gave it a 9.5

One of the descriptions of the M95 says "There are unconfirmed reports that a lucky shot with a .50 cal can take down the pilot." That'd be nice to see again.

I guess this site answers the previous question. On some of the maps, there's a tab to activate Conquest mode to see where the control points are. Cool.

i'm quite handy with the knife...closing in on 200 knife kills already...but the new mechanics are kinda bs. used to be you had to get right up on someone to knife them. now the motion lunges the guy forward like 6 feet...not as much skill involved

i'd like to see them reduce the c4 jihad bullshit...an ATV with a couple blocks of c4 should be able to destroy a m-con station from 10 feet away.

also, they really need the command rose back. it's damn near impossible to ask for ammo or a heal

How does the shot logic work compared to COD? I really liked BC, but switching back from BC to COD was so difficult because the shots fired in BC seemed so ineffective (having to dump an entire clip at point blank in some instances).

^ it is so the sniper actually has an advantage, unlike in COD where the 50cal sniper has the same power and accuracy as other non-sniper rifle and only a slightly longer range. and people go down a lot easier in COD anyway.

^^ I feel that shooting mechanics have improved noticeably in this game. Using an Assault class as an example, in the previous game, most assault rifles had 50 round magazines and you'd have to put at least (and I mean bare minimum here, all headshots) 1/3 of that into someone to kill them. If you didn't kill them outright, there was a great chance that they'd use their injector to recover full health. In the new game, magazine sizes are more realistic (typically 30 rounds), do more damage per shot, and there is no instant health recovery. While Medic gets the high-capacity belt-fed machine guns, they tend to do slightly less damage than the Assault rifles but are still quite effective - more so than in the last game once again. I haven't played much Recon in the demo so I can't vouch for sniper rifles. I do know that the bullet drop and shot leading physics are still present. The only shotgun in the demo is a beast, as well.

COD combat mechanics mean just about zero to me nowadays after having seen the 100+ year old lever action shotgun be dual wielded more effectively than the AA-12. That's almost insulting. And to be able to more effectively kill gun wielding soldiers with a knife while running around like a crazy person? Seriously? No thank you. Give me wide open maps, destructible terrain, vehicles, and gameplay which actually has an objective. I have become very opinionated about this subject.

Speaking of which, DICE is apparently testing out a 25% damage increase from weapons (sniper rifles not included). They claim that it'll amount to about 1 less round fired per magazine. That sounds OK to me.

I am pretty sure that you can eventually earn them in the regular version. The only difference is that you get them on day 1 with a preorder. I also think that there's a downloadable map pack included with new copies of the game.

On the other hand, I have yet to find out what the Dr. Pepper promotional items are.

I don't like it too much

you have to be so very accurate to kill someone with your crosshairs and it's a lot slower than most FPSes
