I'm not disagreeing with the 8 or so people.

So far I've stated that I'm worried based on reviews from customers at my theater, and that your review of Van Helsing is highly questionable.

That's all.

I'll probably see it Monday.

I was afraid that this was going to turn into something like Wild Wild West, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law play off of each other wonderfully. I'll probably be buying this when it comes out.

Saw it over the weekend and enjoyed it.

Its definitely contrived, but in a way that seems to pay homage to the older Sherlock Holmes movies.

I loved RDJ as Holmes, and Jude Law as Watson was an interesting choice that panned out really well.

Personally I loved the monologing during those couple of "fight scenes." Those of you that have seen this know what I'm talking about.

Pretty decent movie....plot was a bit absurd and confusing at times. Downey Jr. was awesome and the cinematography was solid as well!

i thought it looked alright but probably would be bad. there wasnt much else i wanted to see though so i saw it on christmas.

id say each individual scene was fine in and of itself. i found them enjoyable and both jude law and Downy Jr were fun to watch. good laughs here and there. decent action that was over the top but not painful to watch.

that said, the overarching plot doesnt really seem to be all that great and it feels like a variety of enjoyable small scenes. the side characters arent developed well enough but law and Downy Jr are fun. id still watch it, but it wouldnt be something id buy.

I like RDJ, but I doubt anyone can ever top Jeremy Brett's portrayal.

I thought it was OK. At times it seemed like I was watching an explosion filled episode of House.

You're not going to watch a movie because of one person's comment in a TWW thread?

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Downey was top notch. Some may not like the fact that Holmes was turned into an action hero, but I thought it was pulled off nicely. The tension between Holmes and Watson seemed rather thick at times, however. There were a couple of times I was convinced they were going to hug and kiss or something.

The one thing that scares me is Guy Ritchie. Can't think of any of his work that does not fit the same formula, but I am holding out hope for this one.

i was actually bowled over on how much i did like it... maybe cause of the above reasons (aka rd jr)

but i got this bad boy for xmas:

http://www.amazon.com/Sherlock-Holmes-Complete-Granada-Television/dp/B000RPCJB6

cause jeremy brett is the daddy mack RIP

i heard he auditioned to be james bond after sean connery, but it went to roger moore

also... i've heard that the whole granada holmes set is about 100 bucks at costco (as opposed to how much amazon or those other places have it)

Saw it last night and loved it. Just as good as I expected. I look forward to the sequel.

Yeah I have to agree, RDJ has been kicking ass as of late. I've loved all his movies starting with Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.

saw it tonight. really liked it alot. Not as many explosions as the trailers would lead you to believe. The fight scenes were very well done as well.

Just watched it. I was entertained for most of the movie. I loved how Holmes narrated his fight scenes at the beginning of the movie, but he stopped doing it less then an hour in. Now that I think about, I'm pretty pissed that Guy Ritchie didn't use that technique in the climax. If he had, I probably would be buying the DVD.

I cant believe how easy you all are being with this movie. This is very surprising to me. I just got back from watching it and I thought it was pretty horrible. I went in not expecting much and didnt feel like I received anything more than that. I mean it wasnt the worst thing ever and it didnt have as many explosions as i was thinking it would, but overall i just felt it was pretty boring and didnt really have much going on in general. I came in here expecting this movie to be ripped to shreds and wanted to enjoy the subsequent jokes, but for some reason people are being nice about it. Hmmm...interesting.

Really enjoyed it. Thoroughly entertained and looking forward to a sequel--but only if RDJ and Jude Law are in it again...I thought they had great chemistry. The original bromance!

Thought it was a great movie. I enjoyed it and was very entertained. Will be going to see it again and will get it on DVD.

Hope they are able to make a part 2 with RDJ and Jude in it. They were great together.

RDJ has had a pretty sweet life. Got famous with the brat pack, pulled more tail than everyone I know combined, did a ton of drugs, cleaned up, then got two wildly successful film franchises.

I have to admit, the RDJ has made quite a rebound in his career.

I thought the movie was excellent. As for interpretation of the characters, I think they are a lot closer to the original source material than people give them credit for. I'll definitely watch a sequel if one is made.

went to see it at the $1.50 theater today, and i loved it. the artistic design was amazing imo, and i actually enjoyed the plot of the case (had no problem with it being "too intellectual" or any of that nonsense...those people just don't know their flowers and amphibians)

this made me like it more, because of:

Quote :
"The character of Sherlock Holmes was a boxer, a drug addict, an arrogant prick, an expert in Canne de combat, and always up for a good chase scene in order to set up his quarry."

so it was more true to the original characterization than people are willing to realize
