geez, anything fun has "probable carcinogens"

I was 14 when I started tanning, and stopped when I was 16. At 23 I started running outside on a daily basis and training for a marathon. Got skin cancer right before I turned 25.

Started tanning again recently, but I keep it to a minimum. With my job (personal trainer), if you don't look good then people don't think you can make THEM look good. I know you all will think I'm stupid and judge me harshly (this is tdub and I expect nothing less), but I feel like I look better with a tan (and it makes my muscles stand out rawr). And I definitely attract more clients.

i get what you are saying for sure, but there is definitely no way i would tan again if i already had skin cancer. no way jose.

^^ That makes sense. I don't think I'd want to take exercise advice from a fat pale person.

i agree with this. the problem is that until now, tanning beds were too new to know any details on exactly how bad it was.

cigarettes, we all know are horrible and nothing but an indulgence to an addiction. thats the thing, we KNOW (now)

same with tanning beds. i hope the risks are more publicized and i hope they add a tax to the use of them. (for the record, i also agree with higher taxes on fattening foods, sugary drinks and alcohol).

at the end of the day, as a human being on this planet, i dont give a shit what people do to themselves, as long as they're aware of the risks. i will judge them, but thats just me, i'm not trying to stop them.

i only weigh in on personal choices when im asked. for very close friends i care a lot about, i will express my opinion so they know where i stand and let it go, but only if it's an issue that will impact their life a great deal.

like the time i told a close friend not to get married. she asked my opinion, i told her. i don't lie and people ask me things knowing that.

Or if I'm going to fit the bill. If you're doing something that will make hospitals loose money because they have to treat you and that makes my rates go up, I care. Not enough to force people to not do it, but enough to bitch. BTW, not saying this is one of those situations, I haven't researched to know one way or the other.

how about instead of taxing us for dumb shit, they stop making shit that's going to kill us. also, if the price for organic foods was the same or cheaper than the price for processed or GM foods, more people would buy them instead.

well we're getting into another issue. the way health care is run currently is just stupid. health care providers get paid based on what they do to patients (procedures, appointments, tests etc) and NOT on results

our system has made it so that a doctor has no incentive to practice preventative healthcare. just shove some pills down someones throat and we'll be good to go.

i go to a dermatologist to have a suspicious mole looked at and not only do i have to wait months for an appointment, but im seeing a doctor that is a laser and botox fanatic. he doesnt give a shit about healthy skin care, he gives a shit about injecting poison in faces. so guess what happened, he removed my mole incorrectly and now i have to go to another doctor (fuck the original one) to have it done properly. BULLSHIT /lewoods rant

we live in a capitalist society, of course we're going to do what pays. its high time that prevention is rewarded as is good health. i think once we resolve that (um, pipe dream) then things like obesity and cancer costs that weigh down the system won't be as big of an issue

^because i believe we deserve choices. you just have to pay more for the ones that are destructive. i certainly dont want to live in a country where only "certain" foods are available. let the consumers decide what they want. we just need to be rewarded for better choices.

how much do you think a pack of cigarettes should cost? i'm just curious. tax rewards? i'm interested what you have to say about this. i come from the other school of thought. lets ban some foods. lets get these fat asses moving. but i do like the idea of being rewarded for good behavior. or at least off setting healthy choices with my cigarettes.

You start banning things, you're restricting what I can do. Government shouldn't say what I can't or can do. What may make me fat or get cancer may not have any affect on another person, why restrict them because of me?

Putting taxes in place for social costs is the fairest idea I can think of, plus as long as I don't do many of those things, I don't have to pay the $

I would never date a girl who tans in a tanning bed. I'd automatically think their IQ was low and that I'd never get along with them.

see thats where i disagree. in my idealistic view on gov i see a gov that should have the best interests of its nation as a whole. so when they say they are banning really fattening foods etc, i say good. make those fatties eat better.

the problem is they knowingly put these things that cause cancer in products and then fudge the tests to show the results they want so they can give it to the public.

dnl, i dont smoke nor do i know anyone who does so i dont even know how much cigarettes currently cost. i also dont pay much attention to it in the news. my knowledge is about this much... i know obama raised the tax to about $1 per pack on everything except menthols.. which, funny enough is the type he's trying to quit

anyway. there is a major flaw with my idea. currently there is no legit way to make sure the taxes paid on "sin" items actually go toward a specific cause. its like the education lottery. they say it does but when documentation is called into question, things get dicey.

your desire to have a government acting in society's best interest is a nice one, but a slippery motherfucking slope. also, governments are subject to corruption. you give government too much control and next thing you know you're living in a big brother society.

i say, let the market decide what it wants to buy and just make sure everyone knows the risks. people are free to make personal choices. ok so you want to smoke, tan and eat fast food chased with vodka? fucking awesome, go for it... but its going to cost you a little extra. but it also ensures you're allowed to make your own choices and lead a lifestyle to your liking. america, fuck yeah.

i have a host of other views that people get butt hurt about
-billing prisoners for their room and board during their sentence
-legalizing weed (and taxing it, duh)
-a lifetime cap on welfare $ and time
-a clean drug test in order to even get your welfare, free healthcare
etc.

just let me lead my life and stop punishing people for being successful and forcing them to shackle themselves to society's problems

weed is healthy though. and at the least, industrial hemp should be allowed to be legally grown since it doesn't contain thc. it's a very renewable resource and could help drastically help decrease the amount of trees getting cut down.

hemp seed oil is super rich in essential fatty acids as well

it contains omega 3, omega 6 and GLA which are very beneficial in warding off and treating degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Cancer beds always freaked me out, personally... The first time I ever went I could smell my skin burning afterward and I didn't go for a long time. I tried going again this year but was just like fuck it...

I have lots of sun spots though from hardly ever putting on suntan lotion and living at the beach/close to the beach

(Before any of yall waste your breath on how I should wear it, I know I should, I just forget and when I do remember I just say "oh well" )
