I so want the LED helmets. I kinda want to mod one of my helmets like that now, but I don't feel like ruining a perfectly good 350 helmet.

or .75 cents like freedom force. Shoot, they should put up a classic old game pack with no one lives forever and a few others from that era.

yeah it does, the bike is suppose to be a lot smaller and not as wide. Maybe they made it so big to fit fat Americans with $$$ on it. It's pretty cool the concept can be built, but wished they brought in some real engineers to make it more practical than a show piece.

Kinda sad to see it get low marks, but I'll give it a chance anyway. I'll be looking for a pac-man cameo the whole time.

70% is good enough for me to see it in theaters. Especially since most of the praise is for visuals and soundtrack, which wouldn't be the same if I waited for a rental

^Yeah I had assumed that the visuals alone probably boosted the overall rating, so the story must not be too good... but the visuals is probably the most important bit if you're going to be doing a Tron movie.

Loving the soundtrack. Good workout music.

And it seems to indicate there will be a scene after the credits.

Just got back. Questions ahead (Spoilers!)

1) What exactly did Clu plan on doing once he got to the real world? I know his plan was to I guess "take over" and "eliminate imperfections" but how exactly was he planning on doing that with his army? His army had maybe 5,000 dudes total, each them was armed with a spear and a throwing disc. A few well placed bombs by the US military could destroy all of them in less than an hour.

2) Flynn didn't go back into the city because he didn't want Clu to get his disc. Why couldn't he just destroy his disc or hide it somewhere before he went in?

3) It showed when Flynn created Clu and he seemed to do it pretty easily... could he not make more programs to help him fight? Like maybe some badass security programs like Tron?

Oh and btw, did anyone notice that the rubix cube things in Flynn's house looked like Bit from the first Tron?

^^ Haven't seen it, but:

1) Seems like Clu could do more damage in the cyber-world a la Lawnmower Man. Maybe the Tron universe was on a non-networked machine so Clu just needed to get to the real world long enough to hook himself into the internet.

Again, haven't seen it.

I'm not looking for a spectacular story. The first one was about a guy trying to prove he authored a video game and then proving it with a simple printout. One thing the first one had going for it was a unique art direction and universe. My only concern is that the new one won't do much more than copy everything but with a better gfx card.

Now down to a 48 on rottentomatoes. Still looking forward to it.

[spoilers]

^Clu was created in like 1983 or something like that, waaaaaaaay before the internet. Flynn was trapped in there in 1987, also way before the internet. Flynn didn't even know what wifi was. I don't see how Clu would know what the internet was or anything like that.

Also, another thing I thought of... after the events of the first Tron movie we are led to assume that Flynn kept his knowledge of the grid completely to himself (aside from the stories he told his son)? You'd think he would have told SOMEONE (at least his trusted friend Allen) in case he DID get trapped in there they would know where to find him.

In terms of the movie itself, I really like it. The visual effects, music, and action was great. The 3D aspect was entirely unnecessary though. I barely noticed the 3D effects most of the time. It seemed like just another gimmick to charge us an extra $4 for a ticket. This 3D fad needs to go away.

It doesn't have to be the internet. He'd just have to realize that his world had confines and realize that there was something else out there. And if we are to assume that he was naive about the outside world I guess we could assume that he though that his soldiers would be enough. In his mind he could take over, but in reality it was an impossibility.

Kind of anti climatic for an audience, just trying to think up a motivation for the guy.

Well I guess you'd have to picture how the internet would "appear" within the grid. We can assume that Clu would be super intelligent (considering how quickly MCP got smart in the first one), so once he did get out and discover the internet he could just hook the grid up, jump back in, and "conquer" the internet from the inside.

Saw this earlier today. I was most impressed by the music and went and bought the soundtrack as soon as I left the theater (the firsts non OC REMIX ive gotten in a long time). Does not disappoint, even includes the intro to the movie.

I agree with Wraith about the gimmickyness of of the 3D. Dont bother going to the IMAX for this.

saw it in imax and was incredibly impressed. It was a dazzling movie. I actually caught myself saying 'wow' a few times.

the ending was pretty spectacular

WANTED MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT DAMMIT.

flat characters. quorra was hot as fuck. I also wanted to see more of 'computery type things' and how they translated. social networking, email, program function, dialing, shit like that.

but, alas, I would totally watch again in the theatre and probably will.

10/10 graphics
10/10 soundtrack
9/10 nostalgia with first movie
5/10 on plot and 'sucking me in-ness"

i didn't see a pac-man cameo either.

Saw it last night. Good movie. Pissed as Crossroads told me the wrong damn times for the 3d show so we saw it standard.

Wished Id seen the original recently, as I remembered a few bits but not enough. I'm really surprised they didn't do more motorcycle tricks and stuff, most of it was just racing and maneuvering.

Really wished they'd follow up on the whole Tron turncoat bit. They completely failed to explain it.

^^crossroads saved you from wasting your money on the 3d.

the only good thing about watching in imax 3d was seeing previews for what looks to be good 3d movies.

Didn't catch it when I saw it, but now that you mention it you're right. I wonder why CLU looked at it funny.

I thought the sound/visuals definitely made it worth seeing in IMAX. I'll agree that 3D wasn't mind-blowing, but at least it wasn't bad. I don't remember there being any scene that was made worse by 3D, while in Avatar there was at least one where it breaks the immersion with focus/depth-of-field problems.

i can't understand why the reviews were so low .... this movie was exactly like the first one.

I wanted to see Tron 2 not a reinvention of the tron franchise... I got exactly what i wanted and im quite pleased.

Sounds like it did fairly well this weekend, I hope it makes enough money for Disney to greenlight more sequels (that they obviously set up, with Dilinger's son and the unknown fate of Kevin Flynn/The Grid).

I think I was the only person that laughed when I saw Sam living in a "Dumont Transportation" shipping container. Same with the reference to the really big door and the poster for The Black Hole.

The Tron/Rinzler part was a nice touch, for some reason I had assumed Tron wouldn't play much of a role in this movie. Maybe if they make another they'll bring Lori back into the picture.

It won the box office, but still performed lower than studio projections...it's going to have to do really well overseas to recoup the production budget/marketing costs.

Pretty awful movie. The dialogue was comically bad in a lot of places. It was like the actors knew how stupid their lines were. Jeff Bridges....ugh. He should not have taken this role. He's talented, and this movie did not allow that to shine through. At no point did I care about any of the characters, or what happened to them. The visuals were boring, the fights were lame.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally walk into Yogi Bear?

It wouldn't be a Tron movie without a muddy plot and wooden dialogue.

I didn't want Oscar-level acting, I wanted fun lightcycle sequences and I wasn't disappointed.

I already want to watch it again; the music/visuals of the Disc Wars intro gives me chills just thinking about it.

I don't understand the bad reviews either. I thought the movie was great.

What would happen if the power supply died on that PC that was running the Tron world? Would they all just die? That would be pretty epic if his son found out that he was stuck in that world, but the power flickered and the 20 year old UPS batteries wouldn't hold a charge.

^I wouldn't imagine that they would die, just go "dormant" until powered back up again. All they are are programs... if you are typing on MS Word and the power goes out, Word still opens up once you boot back up.
