I think the real issue for me is not so much taste as it is passion. She has to care. A lot. With that comes at least a reasonable amount of taste; I've never met anyone who cared deeply about music and managed to care only about shit.

I'll think about this tonight and post more in the afternoon, but as an example of how important music is to me, consider this: I cannot have music playing while I'm having sex, because I'll focus more on tone dynamics and chord structure than the girl I'm in bed with.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a problem. The only music I hate is modern pop country and I'm pretty sure I could see that personality flaw well in advance.

HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE LISTEN TO THIS SHIT. You would HAVE to be raised listening to it. Theres no way in hell you could develop a taste for it.

Before the age of 10 there was a lot of pop country in my life. Alan Jackson and Randy Travis don't come close to the level of bland shit that's on country radio today.

i like a lot of club style hip-hop/rap, and a lot of techno/electro/trance/house music. most girls can get into this stuff pretty easily so its not a big issue. im pretty accepting of other's music preferences, so i'd just expect the same (that is, if they didnt like what i liked)

But it has caused a strain when I repeatedly made fun of it and said it was shit.

i learned very early on that my music tastes are DEFINITELY not for everyone so why try to hold them to my standards? im a total hiphop snob, and most girls i would date are not going to be into that kind of music no matter how you try to get them to understand what appeals to you about it.

i found that the best ones so far have been the girls that respect my complete interest in the music and don't try to force me to listen to other things, the same way i dont force my shit on them
