it's my money, I should have some say over where it goes. and yes, I believe sending some of my money to grade schools is worthwhile, unlike those bleeding social programs that are come all take all.

however, that's not to say that I'm very willing to just throw money at schools. our government has done nothing but throw money at them, and they still suck. money is not the problem. the teachers, the requirements, the standards, etc. are the problem. not to mention, I'm fairly certain the the education sector of the government finds ways to blow millions of dollars just like the other sectors.

I'm all about equal OPPORTUNITY, thus i say paying taxes for public grade school is fine. However, stealing my money to pay for someone who already had their chance and decides to continually fuck up has nothing to do with equal opportunity, it has to do with theft.

This.

In private business, good performance AND longevity are rewarded monetarily. In the public sector, longevity is basically the pay factor. There are so many BAD teachers, useless programs, needless bureaucracy, etc. that makes good teachers quit for better paying jobs in the private sector.

I realize that school is only in session 10 months out of the year, so teacher pay should only be 83% of pay for a year round job, but $36,000 (prorated up) sucks as a starting salary for a position that requires a 4 year education. If principals could make salary adjustments based on teacher's performances, the quality of education would increase. I am sure there would be some corruption, but it would be a guaranteed ROI over the current system that is in place.

I honestly pictured a skinny white woman with bad teeth, a trucker hat, and a dirty tank top. But you are all from NC and I come from Wyoming, so our experience with people on welfare is a bit different.
