Oh god, I better clarify that you will definitely want to leave that LS7 N/A though. If I don't say that somebody is going to come in here and shit talk my statement about it still having plenty of potential to gain power compared to other LS engines.

Definitely go for a different vehicle if you want to slap on a supercharger or set of turbochargers, or know that you're going to have to put a different engine into your Z06 if you want it to actually last. The LS7 has been bored out to the point that it is no longer suitable for forced induction, the block itself is the reason for this, so building the internals wont help.

If you want a supercharged corvette similar to the Z06, you're stuck with the ZR1. But I honestly prefer the throttle response that only N/A can provide and with a cam and heads, the Z06 will get above 600hp N/A. That is just fine and if you start to go much beyond that it's not going to be a very easy car to drive hard anyway. At those power levels it should honestly be keeping up with 600cc sportbikes and even pulling from them at higher speeds.

I've seen a few too many stock block tear down photos of LS7 blocks on corvette forums. I wouldn't want to own one if that is how they build things .

Yeah man, like I said, the new Z06 sucks really badly. It's something you should just trash in favor of a turbo civic.

High performance engines always tend to be less reliable and less tolerant to poor maintenance. I mean, you're talking about a 7.0L, single cam, 16v, pushrod engine with a 4" stroke that can rev to 7000rpm all day long. The fact that some have failed doesn't surprise me. Some people will not properly maintain them, perhaps they were not properly broken in, perhaps one part was slightly out of spec (Balancing the internal parts matters a lot more as RPM go up). I've seen lots of 996 Porsche 911's for sale with rebuilt or brand new factory engines at extremely low mileage (Like well under 50k miles). Some BMW E46 M3's had issues as well IIRC. Neither of those are low end cars. When you start revving high and making lots of power, shit is more likely to break unfortunately. I haven't heard of there being massive problems with the LS7, but maybe I'm just highly uninformed.

Well i dont think there are tons of failures. You tend to see more negative then positive as far as engine failures on the internet goes. I just think they pushed things pretty far and for that reason I dont think I would use it as my "platform". It's also expensive as hell , lol.

Like I said, turbo civic son. Obviously that's what you need so stick with it.

I'll stick with my LSx when I get it son.

^^my mom has one of those cars. i love it.

ofcourse she went for the V8 because she likes "get up and go" when she is pulling out of the drive way.

she did not like when i spun her tires last time i drove it though.

^^ Shoulda bought a turbo civic. Those don't have mechanical problems. They're also built better than most supercars and will readily outperform them.

Shoulda bought a turbo civic.

That's a real dream car son.

Cheap, reliable, faster than anything else, HUGE brakes from the factory, nice wide factory wheels, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive (It's optional), etc. I mean, you cannot beat a turbo civic son and if you try then you're just wasting money because you could have just bought this turbo civic instead son.

Anything else is pointless, unreliable, etc.

I'd rather have something I built up myself than something I shelled out a lot of money for. I swapped a Chevy 350 into a Toyota Landcruiser I had back in high school and installed a lift kit on it, and that was much more satisfying than just going out and buying a car that was fun to drive after I graduated.

I'm not sure what my future dream car will be, but it will require a 3-door garage equipped with plumbed-in compressed air, a mig welder, cutting torches, engine hoists, and a full lift.

Or he simply has different priorities/interests....

I get nothing out of turning wrenches, welding, etc. It gives me no real pleasure, it's simply labor to me. I enjoy operating vehicles, not working on them.

To me the vehicle is there to be operated, not wrenched on. For others, it seems to be the opposite. That comes down to nothing more than personal preference though. Does that mean that I want a completely stock automobile? Not necessarily. I'm willing to do work on it, but the work is just an annoyance that has to be dealt with in order to get the car to behave the way I want it to behave.

It's also a matter of time. Do I have time to waste doing that when I could just buy a car that someone else put that kind of time into? To me, it's not a difficult decision really because I don't enjoy working on cars.

i want a ffr GTM

and by want i mean build. the kit is $20K and you need a C5 for a donor which is another 7K or so for a wrecked one and then a porsche transaxle which is another $3K'ish. ends up being 40-50K to build one..but god damn it would be fun. i almost bought the kit a few years ago.. really wish I would have now

that, with a supercharged LSx would be fucking insane.

Don't stop at a garage, you need a shop. Concrete floor, pit(s), the works. It's not allowed to be smaller than 100' square.

Sounds pointless when there's a sickening supercharged 4v DOHC engine already available (It also happens to power the Ford GT).

Classics have never done shit for me really, especially in stock form because a lot of them sucked pretty badly compared to modern cars. The engines were alright in some classic cars as far as power production (Fuel economy is probably another story), but the suspension, brakes and chassis were all quite sub-par.

I guess it comes back to the preference thing. I think of vehicles as something to be driven hard and I want the highest performance possible, so choosing an ancient design for your chassis is an unnecessary step back IMO. If you want to look cool or something though, this seems to be a good idea. These classics can be very unique and whatnot.

The only classic that really catches my eye is the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS. I like some 1960's muscle cars as well, but I'd need a modern suspension and drivetrain and when I start considering all that I just think "fuck it".

Agreed.

Handling sucks balls on most of them, esp stock, and the motors are way way over hyped in most case. Even when they aren't slower than expected they're inefficient as hell.

Well, I think that does it.

We've established that the new Z06 is not worth buying son.

Some dude says the engine sucks. The same dude says it's too expensive to be a dream car. And now we have irrefutable evidence that it's no faster than a built KA with a GT30R from 60-90mph. I mean, what else is there to really look at son? The shit sucks. And yeah, that is a rather popular turbo these days.
