If I could make a 6 figure income i would totally do porn
8/23/2009 9:25:44 PM
Dnl, how is that wrong? It's true for my group of friends.
8/23/2009 9:26:58 PM
I don't know anyone in their late 20's, or anyone in their early 30's for that matter that makes 6 figures
8/23/2009 9:28:06 PM
^^ it's true for people that aren't retards. You have to consider that you're talking to someone that AT MAX will make about 25k a year.]
8/23/2009 9:28:31 PM
because most ppl in their mid 20's dont make 50k+ a year?because most ppl in their late 20's don't make almost 100k per year?not rocket science
8/23/2009 9:28:41 PM
im in grad school so my income is pretty low ~20k/yr but from what i hear after i get my PhD starting salaries are running about 75-80k
8/23/2009 9:28:55 PM
^same here
8/23/2009 9:29:48 PM
I think one difference is that I live in a slightly more expensive area. Perhaps jobs pay slightly more here to justify the cost of living increase?
8/23/2009 9:29:55 PM
I really hate to agree with DNL on anything, but I agree with him on that one.$100k+ jobs are few and far between these days, especially if you only have a bachelor's degree^ and that is also very true. I am basing my response on Greensboro, where the cost of living / average household income is pretty low.[Edited on August 23, 2009 at 9:31 PM. Reason : a]
8/23/2009 9:30:19 PM
Most ppl in their 20s do not make six figures. Jesus Christ.
8/23/2009 9:30:53 PM
Also, most of my friends are in medical sales or government defense, which may explain the income. It's not hard to make $100k+ in medical sales. Those guys bust their asses.
8/23/2009 9:32:52 PM
^ that is my ultimate career goal btw, medical equipment sales. I've had a few opportunities, but they all require me to relocate which i am not willing to do
8/23/2009 9:33:56 PM
It's an awesome field. Great job security and you get to play doctor! If you're really good, you can pull $400k per year, but that also requires pretty crazy hours.
8/23/2009 9:37:02 PM
If you check the census Bureau the avg income in the US for someone between 24 and 35 is about 40k a year.
8/23/2009 9:37:44 PM
I wonder what the average is for people with degrees?
8/23/2009 9:42:14 PM
I have a Microbiology degree and over 5 years of outside sales experience, so I am an excellent candidate for that field. When I was single, I was VERY VERY close to signing on with a company to sell their endoscopy equipment. It would have required me to move to Phoenix, so I turned it down. I really thought I made the wrong decision because it would have easily been $200k+, and i kicked myself in the ass a couple time. But then my dad died a month later, so it was a blessing in disguise that I didn't take it. Money isn't everything, and my family is everything to me. Had I taken that job I wouldn't have been there with my dad when he passed, and I wouldn't have been there for my mom and sisters for the months that followed.
8/23/2009 9:42:39 PM
That's the thing. People in medical sales are married to their jobs. They're compensated highly because they must be on call basically 24/7. Thus, less time for family. It's ideal for single folks and families in which one spouse works and the other stays home to raise the child.
8/23/2009 9:45:36 PM
Yes, for free, and no dudes
8/23/2009 9:45:58 PM
Funny thing is, when I turned down that job I was unemployed and getting $400 a week. Like I said, money isn't everything.
8/23/2009 9:47:18 PM
sure, i'd do straight
8/23/2009 9:48:29 PM
8/23/2009 9:48:31 PM
8/23/2009 9:49:28 PM
No, it isn't everything. Sometimes it's better to get by on less anyway and be wealthy in friends and experiences. What's the point of working 100 hours per week?
8/23/2009 9:50:36 PM
6 figures in Washington, NY or LA isnt as much as 6 figures in bumfuck nowhere so maybe some people on this site are making that.and yes straight porn.

After bonuses, I'm sure there are several who make more than $100k per year. Though, bonuses may be nonexistent for many folks this year.

I'll be the camera guy. FOR FREE
8/23/2009 9:55:43 PM
several maybe, but when compared to the entire user base it is a drop in the bucket. it just trips me out how people think that $100k is a common thing, and that you are pretty much guaranteed that if you graduate college
8/23/2009 9:56:13 PM
sure, why not
8/23/2009 10:01:06 PM
No, I def understand that some people automatically expect to make $$$ immediately out of school. I know my bro and I bust our asses and make pretty crazy sacrifices (I moved several states away to a place where I knew NOBODY) for my career. It's easier to succeed if you know exactly what you want and give up a lot of things to get there. That said, there are many times where I miss my family like crazy and feel super homesick. Money definitely isn't everything. And in this economy, it can quickly disappear.

if $100k by your late twenties isn't common, then is $50,000 an income you'd see as common for people with a college degree by their late twenties? this whole discussion stemmed from someone saying that $100,000 is several year's worth of money, as in more than two years. 33,000 a year is something almost anyone with a little bit of intelligence, some motivation, and a good work ethic should be capable of earning with just a high school diploma by the time they are in their late twenties.[Edited on August 23, 2009 at 10:11 PM. Reason : I never claimed $100k was common, but it's definitely not unobtainable.]
8/23/2009 10:08:55 PM
I'd say $50k is way more realisticas in, pretty much hits it on the head
8/23/2009 10:10:30 PM
And my thought is that if you're making more than 50k at 24 yrs old, then, given raises and promotions/strategic moves, you could realistically make 100k (including yearly bonuses) by 29.
