Benefits are nice. I'm getting my tonsils removed in a week, and it's costing me $15.

I guess I will be the first one to answer the OP:

- 32 (but I look and feel 25... when I joined my job 2 years ago, everybody thought I was a student )
- University Lecturer
- MOR (Master of Operations Research) (non-thesis version of the MS)
- $26,906
+ ~$10,000 from extra teaching in the college + private tutoring
- Full health + dental cover for self, wife, baby
- 1 ticket/year each for self, wife, baby to hometown (or we can fly anywhere and they pay upto $1,200; $1,600 when the baby is 2)

And considering the facts below, the $37,000 is roughly equivalent to a $60,000 - $70,000 salary in the US:

- No taxes of any type anywhere
- Fully furnished housing fully paid for by wife's job
- Internet and basic TV channels package paid for by wife's job
- Petrol is $0.60/gallon for 95 octane ($0.45/gallon for 91 octane)

And of course, the best thing:

- 2 days off each week
- 3 months off in summer (this year almost 4 months due to Ramadan)
- Other holidays (religious, midterm, between terms, etc)

I could probably get a job with my degree earning at least $40K as opposed to $27K, but the the number of days off are just too much to give up. I enjoy my time off with my wife and esp the baby now.

i got no problem telling people what i make, because i know i make good money and i'm proud of myself for that. i don't have a degree (yet) so the fact that i make what i do is impressive to say the least.

but i'm not gonna post it because that's just tacky. you don't talk about salaries. it's just one of those unwritten rule things.

besides, this is TWW. one of two things will happen. 1) you post your salary and get ridiculed for being X years old and only making X per year, or 2) you post your salary and get accused of lying about and/or inflating your salary in order to make yourself look better (this is the internet, after all)

so really, what's the point?

I'll tell you how much I made last month, but each month here varies wildly so this figure is no way representative of 1/12th of my annual compensation

Even after all the explanation about why you wouldn't post it, the fact stands, you contradicted yourself.

26, sales consultant for caterpillar calling on a territory (2 dealers), degrees in business and communication

salary is enough that i can put 23% into my 401k, own a home, put cash into savings every month, max my roth ira, pay all my bills, vacation regularly and go to the doctor when i need to

0 credit card debt, 0 expenses related to a car (thanks to my job-- this saves a lot of money) and < $10k in student loans

my salary isn't unusually high, its certainly comfortable but an engineer can make more coming out than i do, 4 years out of college. i manage my lifestyle by saving money every chance i get. i dont buy anything at retail price, i shop around, i use coupons and i bargain/negotiate whenever possible. i also recently took on a roommate to free up more cash, most of which i will put into savings, the rest i will likely spend on more travel since thats what i love

edit... in fact check this out http://digg.com/d311lCH

its kind of amazing. most people are patient enough to set it up though. when im in a position to have to pay for my own car again, i plan to use that model

27, Engineer at a small software company, making more than I know what to do with. I literally have zero debt. No school loans, no credit card debt, no car payments, nothing. I don't own a home yet, but that has a lot to do with my own procrastination. SECU has already pre-qualified me for a home loan in upwards of 200k, I'm basically waiting for the perfect deal to come along in Cary. My 401k is doing great and my savings continue to steadily increase. I've already mapped out my 401k expectations in excel and I should be a millionaire from my 401k alone, assuming the stock market doesn't crash, when I turn 53. All in all, I'm doing much better than most of the people my age salary-wise, debt-wise, and in the long-term... but not everyone.

After graduating in May in a filthy recession, I was very happy to be hired within a couple months for an hourly wage I thought was pretty good, including many benefits. But after paying all the bills and such, I find I really don't make shit . At least I found a job, right? Maybe I need to go back to school...

26 years old with a Business Management undergrad degree and a Juris Doctor Law Degree.

I've gone from bartending, to practicing law, to bartending...now doing both.

I manage a bar, work about 4 shifts a week, come in once a week to do a liquor/beer order, make a schedule, and handle other shit. It honestly depends on tips...but I make at least $60K being a bar manager. With at least $45K of that being straight cash. If bar continues to do as well as it has ben...then probably $75K all together.

As for the legal job?? Just joined in part-time with a two-man firm with one guy retiring in a few years and he wants me to take his spot. Hard to guage how much money I'll make with them this year as I've only been at it for a couple weeks...but my broad range is gonna be $20-$30K. I'm probably putting in about 20 hours a week right now.

Bar covers my health insurance. I do my own retirement/investments. That's about it.

pretty interesting. when i took BUS 225 (personal finance) last spring my teacher would come up with stuff similar to this. i'm so glad i took that class as an elective since i know what to do with my money now. and if anyone needs to get any electives knocked out before graduating, do yourself a favor and take that class with Sloan if you can get in. that being said, i'm planning on buying a 2010 camry pretty soon since i'll be able to get it at invoice with 0% APR financing along with a trade in and a $1000 credit for being a recent college grad. if it was any other time but now i probably would never consider buying a new car, but it's worth it right now in my opinion.

26...Chemical Engineer. Been out of school working for 3 years. I didnt get a raise last year because of the economy. I make $64,000 as a base salary. After 401ks and medical and everything, the company says they are going to pay me roughly $88,000 this year.

I have student loans, a car loan, and a mortgage to pay. Too bad I'm taxed so much that I cant get significantly out of debt anytime soon. Its going to take me years to climb out

agreed. i was lucky enough to have my financial management teacher randomly recommend the class one day around registration last fall. otherwise i never would've known to take it. lucky for me i'll probably always be in pretty good financial shape assuming i stay employed with a decent paying job.

one of sloans classes is the REASON i started hitting my 401k hard the second i got a full time job and why i've been maxing my roth ira since i graduated. i never would have known how important that stuff was without the class

honestly, i dont ever know exactly how much im making until i get my bonus statement in march (wont get one this year). i have living adjustments, performance increases and promotion increases. i keep up but not with the actual dollar amount. i could guess within $5k

^Yeah...Sloan was the shit. Wish I had paid a little more attention...but I paid enough to do a few things right (Roth IRA for example).

I've always been ridiculously responsible with money to begin with. I pretty much only splurge on good food and wine/drink...which definitely adds up, but I feel its worth it.

29, graphic designer, BFA degree, $30K. Not nearly enough for what I do and barely enough for a comfortable lifestyle. I'm stuck with the same salary I was earning 2 years ago thanks to a company-wide salary freeze.

Career-wise, I've gone as far as I really care to go, since I don't want to take on the greater responsibility and longer hours of an art director, so I'm kind of biding my time making ends meet until I either win the lottery (unlikely) or get an inheritance from my wife's grandparents (almost certain but not for many years). My wife likes to delude herself into thinking she'll be a housewife with a couple of kids going to private school and a big house with a big yard, but realistically we can ever afford that in my line of work. That would have to wait until her grandparents pass on, and they're only 80 and in pretty good health.

Yeah, in many cases simply showing the ability to earn a degree opens a lot of doors, and then it's personality, work ethic, etc. that gets you moving. People used to ask me all the time, "what are you going to do with an English degree, teach?" To which I invariably replied, "fuck no," but I didn't really know what I wanted to do either. Things happened to have worked out pretty well for me though.
