I'd live on a boat...dad has one big enough to live on, but not as big as I'd like. I would not live on anything sail under 36'. Dad's is 27'...

I tell you this: you accrue a lot of costs just in maintenance alone. Slip fees are not cheap either. A boat is a black hole in the water into which you channel assloads of fundage.

Yeah, but you don't inhabit a kid.

You don't lay the wimmens you hook up with on a kid.

A kid provides a terrible shower, bein' that they don't hold a lot of pee.

You get prosecuted for neglecting your kid.

Or you could raise your fam on the boat and it would be like Swiss Family Robinson!

well now that we've covered all the boats i could never afford, let's go over what i can afford

well lets start with what kind of boat ill need

obv ones that look like those yachts are a yes but in a smaller pocket sized version

how long of a boat do i need?

Needs:

bedroom for me im tall so ill need to fit a queen size mattress and need a closet for clothes
bathroom w/shower and toilet and sink
kitchen with fridge, oven, microwave, all the standards
eating/living area w/couches and tv so my buds can crash too if they want
nice little outdoor hang area for people coming over
large enough to have friends over

how many feet are we talkin here? 35'? 40'? more?

Ironically, we just went over this scenario in my finance class...according to my prof. it costs $14,000/yr to live on a boat. Also, properly investing over the course of the next 40 years, you could pay for 20 years of your life on a boat with $23/month*

*Assuming 11% APR for present value annuity figures when you retire, and 6% future value annuity figures as you save.

it's gotta depend drastically if you're looking for a boat to travel or stay close to one location. $14k/yr is on the way low end if you are traveling a whole lot.

hmmm well if i bought a house and had a $1200/mo mortgage payment that's about 14k/yr so i could look at it that way.

now i gotta think about maintenance costs of a house vs a boat
