that shit gets out of control in grad school courses

I remember one guy that would always sidetrack the class, and hold us over with his fucking questions. At one point, the prof. actually told him to "pipe down...if you have a question directly related to what was presented today, then ask. Otherwise, come see me during my office hours. This classroom isn't your private tutor session"

"rule #whatever) Don't ask a bunch of stupid fucking questions just for the sake of asking stupid fucking questions."

This is extra-double-plus true in all situations. There are kids -- we've all seen them -- who ask questions for the sake of asking. I assume they think it will bring up their participation grade. Maybe some professors fall for it, but I know a few who have told me, "Wasting my time does not equal participating," or something to that effect.

Quote :
"people like GrumpyGOP are the reason I did not do well at State. I am a question asker. I always have been. I never studied in high school, just asked a lot of questions in class. I made straight A's. Then college came, and I never felt comfortable asking questions."

People in high school hated you for asking a bunch of questions, too. Perhaps not as many did. But certainly there were enough that I don't understand why college suddenly made you self-conscious.

But you miss the point. I don't actually have a problem with asking questions in general. But if the professor says, "Unless someone has any more questions, you guys can go," then you ask the question one-on-fucking-one. You don't make the whole class sit and listen to the question and answer. Either they already know the answer, in which case they are annoyed to have to hear it repeated, or they don't care enough about the answer to talk to the professor on their own time, in which case, fuck them.

The point is, don't make the rest of us waste a bunch of time because you can't or don't want to do the studying.

Quote :
"My attitude was always that if you had a problem with me asking questions...you can just go fuck yourself. Of course, I was actually cutting the checks for my education so that added to my sense of entitlement."

I'm cutting my checks, too. Doesn't mean I want to hear an inane question whose answer has either already been provided or was self-explanatory to begin with. You can wait until the professor dismisses everybody and then ask. You can go to office hours. You pay for those, too, you know!

Nah, we had a small school. And high school classes took the same amount of time whether i asked questions or not, there was no leaving early.

[Edited on August 27, 2009 at 12:44 AM. Reason : (and the questions i asked hadn't already been answered!)]

DONT ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN LISTENING.

IF YOU CAN'T LISTEN AND TAKE NOTES AT THE SAME TIME REPEAT GRADES 9-12

honestly, it was probably my high school teachers that helped fuck me over, as well as my overall lack of studying skills.

No real high school class gets out early. That doesn't mean anybody wants to hear the same shit rehashed.

I suppose it's possible that you were the rare high school student who asked questions somewhere between "Please repeat that shit you just said" and "Look at how pretentious I am." You may well have been one of these, but they're so unusual I have considered lobbying to make them an endangered species.

Regardless, when you have the chance to get out early, you don't ruin everybody else's day.

What the hell does it being a small school have to do with anything? If you were asking stupid or self-important questions, there could be only one other student in the class and they'd still be annoyed.

i know, and you see that i recalled that in the next post. blaming it on my lack of study skills and high school. i was not prepared for a big university at all. my ap english class spent most of their time painting sets for the school play. i had a teacher fresh out of college that wanted to be everyone's friend.

i was a fish out of water in college, and didn't want to admit it

I remember taking calculus in high school, made a A in the class... went to go take the AP exam thinking I would ace that shit no problem. I sit down at the table with my pencil in hand.. open the book...

"What the fuck is this S symbol??"

Apparently our AP calculus class didn't teach integration other than mentioning it existed so I made a 2 on the AP exam. Gogo shitty high schools.

If anyone here went to Person High School in Roxboro, they'd understand. It's not really ghetto, just most of the people that go to school in Roxboro do not have aspirations of going to college. They just pickup a trade and do that for the rest of their lives. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that... someone has to do it, and it pays pretty good, but when you base your curriculum on people like that then it certainly doesn't prepare the other 15% of people for a good university.

^Lol, that's basically how the course went when I looked back on it. We spent a ton of time on chapters 1-3 and then the week before the end of the class the teacher threw up a picture of kermit fucking miss piggy and said "INTEGRATION EXISTS, WATCH OUT: IT WILL DO YOU IN THE BUTT ON YOUR AP EXAM."

rule # whatever, don't eat cips/samiches loudly (smacking of lips/open mouth chewers)

1. its probably close to lunch and i either am about to eat and i'm hungry
2. it probably after lunch and i skiped it and now i am just hungry as hell and you are an ass for doing that
3. you are a freshman girl....you're going to get fat, the only calories you should consume are from beer at my place

....also slurping some faggy coffee loudy pisses me off, but i understand the need for a cup of joe at 8am, so i might let this pass

that is true. i mean, it meet my needs in high school. college....not so much. the main problem though, was still my lack of study skills. i should have owned up and gotten tutors to help me with that stuff.

(since i have graduated they have added a class called college prep. that teaches you stuff like that)

^ Yeah same, the year of my graduation and after they started shifting their focus on preparing people for college.

Speaking of PROFESSIONAL high school websites.. ours is pretty kickass.

I was over 20 minutes late for a Tuesday class one time, so I decided rather than disturb the class I'd get some paperwork I needed from the department office instead. Professor got pissed at me for not showing up to class and going down to the office instead. When I asked him which he would prefer, me walking in 20 minutes late then having to get my shit together on my desk or realizing I screwed up and not go to class that day, he got all flustered and couldn't choose one

no... you're saying all you need is to go to class.... when in reality, depending on your major there is much more time you need to spend outside of class to do well.
