If you;re gonna sign up to make a comment, make sure to tell them what to change. I mean, cuz' otherwise they're gonna be on their own, and we see where that got us.

ERASE THE FREAKING 'NC' LIKE EVERY NC STATE FAN ON EARTH HAS ASKED FOR FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS AND GET OVER YOUR 'WERE TRYING TO PUSH THE NC STATE' BRAND CRAP.

and if they insist on branding it NC State, then put the NC next to STATE so it doesn't look like some horseshit you could buy from a street vendor in Thailand

These look like horseshit.

But I myself much prefer NC State to State.

State just seems so generic to me. Like in any sports movie they slap 'State' onto opposing team jerseys and they always suck.

I like identifying ourselves with the state we are from.

North Carolina State University == NC State == NCSU =/= NCST

It's like what has already been said...

Does NC State have any designs that are worth a damn?

Not at all.

The strutting wolf is awesome, block S is good, diamond S is acceptable.

Every other variation sucks balls.

Well, they did in fact, fuck up the strutting wolf AND block S recently.

so fuck this school

seriously.

Mary Easley should make the designs since they've paid her so goddamned much.

The old strutting wolf (Tuffy) was one of the best logos in college. They screwed Tuffy up tremendously also becuase the old version was too hard to embroider onto clothing. The new one is freaking terrible. Our marketing department is horrible. Absolutely horrible.

I wrote Wolfpack Marketing last night and this is their response. EMAIL AWAY!!!! Let them know!!!

Quote :
"With an organization the size of NC State, the answer to your question can be complex. There’s no singular “brand manager” who is responsible for all decisions regarding the Wolfpack brand. Multiple people have a hand in managing and maintaining the brand identify. The development and licensing of the specific logos are handled by NC State’s Trademark Licensing Office. Cindy Sears is the university’s trademark licensing administrator. You can reach her at cindy_sears@ncsu.edu.

The term “marketing” encompasses a wide range of duties that often fall under multiple jobs within the athletics department. Depending on your specific sports question, you may be best to address your inquiry to the athletics marketing office, the media relations office, or perhaps the office for a respective team. Despite our name, Wolfpack Sports Marketing generally does not play a role in marketing the sports teams and events. We handle the corporate sponsorship sales for the athletics department and work directly with the companies that sponsor NC State’s teams and events.

Initially, I would suggest that if you have specific questions regarding the marketing of the NC State brand that you address them to Dick Christy, Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. You can reach Dick Christy at the following address: dick_christy@ncsu.edu. Dick is probably the best resource for general inquiries related to the marketing of NC State and its sports teams.

Hopefully this covers your question regarding who to contact, but if you still have other questions, don’t hesitate to follow up.

I'm not going to a single game this year, after going to quite many the last few years.

Not because of a stupid uniform, but because I don't think our coaching is going to lead us in the right direction. I am officially off of that boat.

its been a long time since i shopped for an ncstate clothing item. And then i realized that its probably because the last time i did look for something there is nothing to be found im willing to part money with.

so i decided to go to gopack.com, which should have all the latest and greatest stuff, and just look at your basic t-shirt. Of the dozens of t-shirts, i only saw one or two that i would actually pay money for. So if a university, as an organization, can't produce a good basic college t-shirt, then what's left? And they should have models that they NEVER touch. A freshman should want to buy that one, and wear it till it has holes in it, and if he wants to get another one 12 years later, he should be able to find the EXACT same shirt.

^^great post, couldn't agree more

Some of the shit on gopack is noticiably wrinkled in the pictures. It looks like the university is selling shit via craigslist.

Go to UNC's site, or Michigan State, or Penn State, or Florida, UGA and check out there shit. Its night and day.

The marketing department has plenty of benchmarks to compare itself to, and I don't see how they could look at these comps and not feel as if they are failing the fans, alumni, and students of this university!

The issue here is that the uniform has to identify the institution.

Simply having "State" across the front doesn't identify shit, so they are forced to put the tacky-ass 'NC' above it.

THATS WHY IT CANT JUST SAY 'STATE', OR ELSE IT WOULD JUST SAY 'STATE'.

I'm sure there is nobody who wants the throwback more than Coach Lowe.

michigan state might own the rights to using the word "state" exclusively.

here's one example of how ridiculous this is. the university actually asked us to stop printing those wolfpack hoops "we all bleed red" shirts because they said they own the rights to the word "wolfpack" as one word and nevada owns the rights to "wolf pack" as two words. i thought this was pretty stupid, but they sent us a cease and desist letter asking us to stop even though on the shirt wolfpack is split up into 2 words and i was very conscious of avoiding any copyright and licensing issues when designing the shirt.

the university is probably making it a point to continue to brand the name "nc state" and there's probably a shit ton of red tape involved to get the jerseys to just say "state".

Lol.

Although 'that team' is a little more relevant, that's really a terrible argument. That 'OMG WHAT TEAM IS THAT???' logic is what our terrible horrible marketing department is using.

Historically, our jerseys have said 'State'. If we win games, people will know what that jersey means. If we lose games, no matter what our jerseys say, no one will know us anyways. Change it back to State.

Quote :

Don't think there's any way you can own the rights to that.

So technically if we have our 'throwback' game, Michigan State can sue the balls off of us? Even though they're our old jerseys.

I've heard this rumor, but i don't buy it. It's our stupid marketing that refuses to drop the 'NC' (Of course, I'm guessing. Feel free to prove we can't do it). That might be some stupid story our horrible marketing office made up so everyone would get off thier back

there is definitely a way they can get around it and i think most of the problem right now is the university is too stubborn and dead set on branding "nc state".

if you design the letters a certain way you can get a patent for "state" but it has to be written that way when represented on clothing. this is probably why the michigan state "state" is designed that way specifically and not written out in a normal font.

pharrell's bbc (billionaire boys club) clothing company ran into this with the british broadcasting corporation and what they did was patent the specific design of the lettering so they could legally use bbc.

Michigan state does not own the rights to use "State". There is no way.

I think this is more to do with NCSU's stubborn effort to brand NC State as the exclusive school name/Jersey/Logo.

what i was saying is they probably have a patent for it being written that specific way it is on their jerseys. there's no reason why we couldn't do the same thing, but yeah, it appears the university want's to push "nc state" exclusively.

Yea treat it as a single design, not lettering. I agree that we should stick with the single "STATE" on the jerseys, and maybe throw a small block S in there, I think Michigan did a nice job on their jersey, and seriously, if you can not figure out who a team is you are watching, you are just dumb.

I say we stage a We Are Marshall type protest ... instead of saying We Are Marshall, say We Are State ... (and we want our jerseys to say State, not this retarded little NC shit you guys are trying to put on top of State). We could bring some ammo for added effect.

It'd never happen, but if it did, I'd be there.
