I also like all of Tarun's recommendationsAzitra, Udipi, and Bamboo Garden. One other favorite new favorite is Kadhai the Indian Wok, which was previously operated as Royal India express. The menu very different and the Mother's Day buffet was bangin'. I'm sure the wknd buffets are just as good as the mother's day one though...http://kadhaitheindianwok.com/default.aspx

^ Oh man I used to eat there all the time when I worked in Pleasant Valley. I'll have to check it out while I'm home.

^^Seriously, Azitra is the place I take white people who are terrified of indian food because they americanize it past the point of recognition. It's some seriously pussified shit. If that's what you're looking for, knock yourself out. If you're looking for actual food that Indians would eat, go somewhere else.
9/10/2009 11:26:53 PM
I don't know if anything with goat in it could be considered Americanized.
9/10/2009 11:41:43 PM
you're right.what the fuck do I know about indian food?
9/10/2009 11:52:04 PM
so bobby, what was your verdict of the best place in the triangle?
9/10/2009 11:53:04 PM
Sitar (durham location)I'm a little biased in that they're from the same part of India that I'm from (kerala), and are the only gig in town that does any dishes specifically from Kerala. At the same time, they aren't limited to just that cuisine and also do justice to your standard fare.
9/10/2009 11:57:28 PM
I'm just saying. You can say that it's not home cooking or whatever, but I don't think you could really consider it Americanized. I've had friends from India tell me it's comparable to what you would expect to eat at a fancier south Indian restaurant but definitely not what you would get from a run-of-the-mill place in India.

Does anyone know of an Indian restaurant around here that serves a chicken mango dish? There is a place in Ithaca, NY that has this dish and it is incredibly good. I haven't been able to find it anywhere else.

bamboo garden is pretty watered down chinese food. they also take forever to get the food out to you.saffron sucks as well. mediocre food that is way overpriced.i have not been to any of the places off chatham st in cary (udupi, suchi, cool breeze)my vote would probably be for tandoor in rtp/durham[Edited on September 11, 2009 at 12:47 AM.
