Where is all the negativity coming from? We beat Wake last year when Wake was MUCH better. Wakes offense works well against fast, aggressive, undisciplined defensive teams (amato style defense). I don't think we will have much difficulty handling them 31-21.

I didn't have a great view of it from the student section but it looked like he had plenty of room to get his feet down and just failed (didn't see the after-catch of him dropping it though).

^I think we should win 31-14 or something around that. I can't see us losing to a team that managed to lose to a really mediocre BC team.

The receivers feet WERE in bounds.

Our defense laid a hit on him that made him unable to retain the ball and he dropped it.

I'm talking about the pass with ~5 minutes left in the game when Pitt was forced to punt because their receiver landed out of bounds on sidelines.

Maybe it was earlier than that actually, I think it was when we were still tied. They didn't get the first down on a run but they got called for holding so we backed them up 10 yards for 3rd and 11. QB had all day to pass, hit his WR near the sidelines and the WR landed out of bounds.

Yea he caught it in air out of bounds, there was no way he could have gotten a foot down

^^ um.. didn't Brandon Bishop knock the shit out of him? I think that was the reason he dropped the ball. However I was not in the endzone and I didn't get the best view, but that is what I thought.

If we're talking about the 3rd down play on their last drive before the botched snap over wilson's head, the receiver was on the vaughn towers side and clearly landed about a foot out of bounds.

^ yeah, i thought Bishop hit him and that is why they both got up gingerly. I guess it was because Bishop had a cramp and the reciever was ashamed. Jim Beam was still distracting me.

I don't have a replay to confirm it or anything but I thought any decent recevier would've been able to get a foot in-bounds on that play from where I sat. I dunno. Either way it felt like their QB's failings bailed us out some (the goalline stand from our 8 was awesome though).

Oh I don't know, probably has nothing to do with the fact that they are 4-2 against us over the last 6, and the two we did win, well one was a 14 point comeback to win in double OT and the other was last year when Russell had to pull a rabbit out of his hat and we had to rely on their WR dropping a game winning TD in the end zone. Also has nothing to do with Wake beating us by no less than 8 the last three times at Groves Stadium, and two of the three being absolute beat downs. Skinner is completely capable of throwing for 250 yards while their mis direction can add another 200. And, we've forced one turnover against BCS teams this year in two games, and it was a heck of a play at that. Wake also plays for 60 minutes, Stanford and BC both thought they had Wake down and out, Wake will play you until the game is over. I think we have to go +2 in the turnover battle to win.

^ agreed

this game has me scurred to death.

simply b/c of:

1) @ wake
2) somebody is poised to finally expose our pass defense
3) they are simply DUE for a win after a few tough loses they've had
4) it's early in the season for ncsu and we always start slow

i could go on but it'll depress me.

I mean, we have the better team but that's never stopped Wake from beating us in the past. I definitely think O'Brien is right that we can't repeat the same mistakes we made against Pitt and expect to beat Wake. With that said, I think RW will tear up Wake's defense and we should win without too much drama.

^ second requirement for the new kicker would be to get it past the 15 on kickoffs

I'm tired of other teams starting on the 38 'cause we cant kick the ball deep enough.

^^he always kicks it to the 8 or 9 yard line. but still i agree. he needs to be hitting [-2 yard line... 2 yard line] area each kick.
i mean unless he can hang his current kick in the air another second or 2 so our guys can be ready to demolish him on the 20.

^ exactly. might as well kick it out of bounds every time.

I really want to get back to our end-of-season form last year where we always scored on our opening drive. It was so nice watching Wilson march the offense down the field for a TD.

^^ that'll come with the OL gelling and controlling the LOS. I watched the Pitt game off a torrent (great quality btw) and in the 2nd half our OL was downright dominating at times

^ yea the missed tackles, some of them were just... i have no idea what those guys were thinking just really bad angles and arm tackling.

Earl Wolff, Maddox, Manning and Bishop really look like they're starting to come into their own.

Wake uses lot's of gadgetry in their offense, but it often involves a lot of creativity for a one yard gain. Their running game can be completely shut down...IF you play disciplined football and stay in your lanes. Also they are inexperienced especially on defense.

That having been said, I have been sorely disappointed my last couple trips to Wake and think they will be tough to beat. Another note: just because they have a quiet crowd doesn't mean the team won't have to contend with noise. They play loud music and cheering on the huge speakers on defense to make up for the lack of crowd noise.

I'm firmly against weddings during football season. Just b/c ^you scheduled your wedding for a bye week doesn't mean everyone coming to your wedding won't be missing their teams games!

That being said my sister's getting married the weekend we play BC

Wake Forest worries me. They always seem to bitch slap the shit out of us just when we think we're starting to roll.

But we've got a new coach now, we're gonna win this one. 41-20

I have been begging for this all season. Sorry CHA-KOW-SKI but you have no leg strength. It's ridiculous that we keep allowing the opposing team to start on their 35+ yard line and risking a return for a TD (it's been close a few times already). Until we have a kicker with some length, just boot that shit out of bounds and walk off the field.

I have had to go to wedding twice on game days and was lucky enough to go to both. One was a State Grad and planned it on the UNC game (dumbass) Luckily it was late enough that I could go to the game and then the wedding. The second wedding I was actually in and in was in Greenville the same day as the Murray St. game. Luckily his was at 10:30 AM and I got back in time for the game and even a little tailgating.

armchair analysis...

In Wake's 3 meaningful games...

Baylor, Stanford and BC:

1. They've been down by two scores early
2. They have staged comebacks in each game and would have probably won the BC game had they not fumbled on the 4yrd line
3. Have put up well over 400yrds total Offense in each of those games
4. Have allowed almost 400yrds of Offense in those games
5. Skinner is still very good, he looks like Russell scrambling and throwing
6. Wake has had mixed results rushing: Baylor not much, Stanford and BC avg around 200+ yards

However, Baylor is not a very good team, they gave up 30 points to UCONN
Stanford's only loss was to Wake, but they've only played one decent team otherwise
BC is not very good, ok, but they dont have a good secondary and lost alot of their D front 4.

This may be the week that we come out and score on our opening drive, but our D really really has to keep Skinner contained (and in his clothes).

Wake is probably not as big/physical as Pitt, they have a better QB, maybe even a better team, but their secondary is not getting it done.

I'd think we'd get out to an early lead, even though its on the road and Wake would make up some ground but it wouldn't get too close for comfort.

We are averaging a conference best 38+ pts/game and I don't see us slacking off against Wake (maybe a little drop off due to it being on the road).

I'm gonna go with 38-20 good guys

Russell Wilson has a ridiculous stat line right now through 4 games:

74-115 (64.3 %) 969 yards, 12 TDs 0 INT 169.56 QB Rating

Over the last 3 games he is

62-92 (67.3%) 895 yards (298.3 ypg), 12 TDs 0 INT

I'm getting married the day of the BC game as well. Obviously we wanted to take some considerations for other people (and we did take plenty that didnt revolve around football and were more important than football) but timing issues with family and when we wanted to get married had us scheduling around early to mid October. We at least made sure it was an away game (small consolation of course but it was the best we could do really). As much as I love football, especially some NC State football, the world is not going to end if someone has to watch the score on their phone and then watch the DVRd game after the wedding/reception. Besides, the wedding is over at 2 with a short informal reception so I'm hoping (for my sake and the few guests that will want to watch ) that its a later game.

now back to talk about destroying some deacs

reading TOB's comments following the pitt game, and knowing the way he takes these in-state games so seriously, i think our team will be very ready for the challenge. start this game the way we ended the last game and we'll be okay.

although his one loss in-state is to Wake, @ Wake.

Glaring issues we need to address this week:

Learn how to line up properly in punt formation. How can we have multiple penalties for not enough men on the LOS on punts?

Kickoffs: distance, coverage, and if necessary, strategy

False starts

Shotgun snaps: in addition to the bad snap over Wilson's head, there was another snap infraction and bad snap recovered and covered up by Wilson the previous posession.

Tackling and angles of pursuit: Wake, like Pitt, has some guys that can run after the catch

Staying home/containing the run. We did better later in the game, but had several times linebackers/DBs got pinched inside allowing Pitt's frosh RB hit us with a big run to the sideline. This could be even more of a challenge with Wake's misdirection.
