I see that spoilers are beginning to appear, so I think I'll hold off on visiting this thread until the pc version is released. For the people who have been playing it so far, would you overall agree that the game is definitely worth buying? 11/19/2009 11:17:50 AM |

I was really pissed with this game earlier because I was in a roof top pursuit and of course everything possible was in my way...for example...a ladder when I'm trying to leap from roof top to roof top...there is a fucking ladder to climb down off the building below me...but where does my character latch on to when he's commanded to jump? he drops down to the ladder....
and when I do finally jump the cameras twisted me round that I jump completely off a 4 or 5 story building and by the time i get back up on the roof my suspect has run off. 11/19/2009 10:06:50 PM |

So I just started... got a bug when trying to race my brother. I accepted the race, then looked up hooker info right before we start and I just got stuck. my bro stood there and I could not leave a small area... Wasn't sure what to do for like 7 mins..sucked. Had to die 11/23/2009 1:07:44 AM |

Got into this last night, and it's not bad.
It definitely feels like the first game so far though, and honestly I'm disappointed in the amount of side quests at this point.
Probably because it's still early (just got the hidden blade, lol on the finger) but still, I don't want to keep doing main plot at this point. 11/23/2009 9:50:41 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
The side quests start showing up more often later.
You aren't really very far into the main story, it's a pretty long game.
And obviously its similar to the first game in many ways, but the biggest difference is that in the first game every assassination involved the same 3 boring missions, this time there is much more variety to the quest missions. 11/23/2009 10:23:32 AM |

Still only one thing I want to know. Just how terrible are the escort missions? 11/23/2009 11:17:40 AM |

^not at all bad...i've had a couple and i didn't even notice it was an escort mission. 11/23/2009 11:19:09 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
It seems like the escort missions are actually more like "they follow you and you just make sure they don't die" type missions.
Which are much less frustrating than normal "follow them while they walk blindly into enemy traps" escort missions. 11/23/2009 11:27:12 AM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, there will be plenty of side/optional missions later if that's what you're interested in. They're the same in theme (assassinations, tombs, messengers, beat up, etc.), but each one is a little different.
I feel like the main assassinations themselves sort of lack something from the first game. They don't seem as intense. I don't know if that's the best word or not. But sometimes I just find myself going, "oh, that was it?" Also, I haven't died at all* (i'm pretty far into the game). I'd like to think I'm just that good, but I think the game is a little too easy. The few times I've died have been from accidentally jumping off of a tall building (like from the cross on top of a tower).
I also hate the assassinations that require you to follow someone for a ridiculous amount of time just to learn information. The game play there just bores the shit out of me. They haven't been particular challenging as far as keeping up goes (if they were, I probably wouldn't mind). They should have made those into cut-scenes as far as the info. goes.
I don't know. Overall, I really like it. And better than the first one. But it kinda seems like in fixing all of the horrible aspects of the first game and adding more puzzle-like elements (actual puzzles and "how to reach a certain spot" puzzles), they forgot the name of the game Assassin's Creed. And they've made it too easy. So far, beating the main game has literally just been a matter of sitting down and playing. Making my way into and through the tombs as been more challenging/interesting.
one useful thing in the escort missions is that you can have them hold up, go kill any guards, and go back for them. You can also hire a group to take care of it for you. Or just kill them as they come along. I've let all of my "escorties" get attacked and none of them have died.

^ cool review
I played for about 2 hours last night.... didn't really accomplish much - just a lot of running around and stupid missions. When the hell do you get to ASSASSINATE people???! 11/24/2009 10:53:13 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
You're pretty close I guess.
There's a major plot event after about 2 hours. At which point you turn from "Spoiled brat" ezio to "Assassin" ezio. You might have reached it, but if not you'll be there very soon. 11/24/2009 11:35:37 AM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, the first hr or so is a little slow. But then you get the assassin's gear and things ramp up a bit. If your goal is to get things going, make sure you're completing the actual plot points (exclamation points on the map). Those are what make the game progress. Everything else is just you running around doing stuff. 11/24/2009 11:55:06 AM |

I'm having trouble doing stealth kills. I can do them fine with the hidden blade but that isn't what I mean. When you are hiding in a bale of hay and a guard walks by, how do you stab then pull them in? And when you are on the side of a building and one walks by, how do you throw them off? The assassination button is up there but every time I push it, he just jumps out and stabs them with the hidden blade. 12/1/2009 11:53:40 PM |

I will say it seems harder to do the stealth kills than it was in the first
but then again it was ridiculous how in the first you could walk up to a group of soldiers and kill them off one by one and no one is alerted as long as you had your head down 12/2/2009 8:18:01 AM |

It's way too easy to evade guards in this game. In the first one, almost half the challenge of the mission was evading the guards after completing a kill, even breaking the line of sight was a challenge, now it's as simple as diving into the water. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game immensely, but that particular aspect felt a little cheap. 12/3/2009 6:42:22 PM |

I'm really loving the stories/mysteries in this came: The codex pages, the assassin's tombs, and the glyphs all have me really interested in the back story. As convoluted and ridiculous as it all is, the conspiracy has made me drop everything I'm doing to locate the hidden glyphs. Also, I'm really curious to know what happens when you get all 100 feathers.
Best part of the game so far for me:

I really don't know, but... [minor spoiler] given the fact that your mother hasn't spoken since your brother and father were executed, I figured there'd be something that has her speaking once more or coming back to the present. 12/14/2009 12:11:49 PM |

Ya, also I'm pretty sure that your sister originally suggests that you go collect the feathers for her. It's bizarre but while I didn't care about the flags; I actually care about the feathers. I'm not sure if it's because of the hint at something extra story-wise or if it's because I care about the mother speaking again. 12/14/2009 2:32:09 PM |

the little brother asked him to collect the feathers. But he wouldn't tell him why he wanted them.
I was hoping that you would get a flying machine that you can use anytime you want if you collect them all. But I'm not even close to finding out. And since I've beet the game and a fair amount of the side stuff, I'm not sure I care enough to find out. 12/14/2009 3:02:55 PM |

yeah, you're right. But it was for the brother's project. Or maybe he was collecting them for the mother? I think they just had the sister tell you since someone had to and the mother wasn't talking. 12/14/2009 3:13:17 PM |

Maybe it is to make angel wings or something? And I'm sure at some point you have to have full access to the flying machine... one of the achievements is to kick a poisoned guard while in the flying machine.
Okay I decided to Google the feathers and see what happens. SPOILERS TO FOLLOW: *****BEGIN SPOILER******
After collecting 50 feathers you get a War Hammer weapon. I'd imagine you just use it beat the shit out of everyone like normal. After collecting 100 feathers, you get the Auditore cape which makes you notorious everywhere you are. Looks like the mother is just gonna stay quiet and remain praying at the bed for the rest of her life.

^^^ that isn't the achievement. you are supposed to just kick the guard on the mission. if you miss it, then you have to replay the game. unfortunately you can't access story memories from the animus like you could in the old game. you can replay side missions but not main ones, which is weak. i missed the kicking a guard achievement and am debating when i'll replay. 12/14/2009 10:29:44 PM |

I'm referring to the Wear the Auditore Cape in every city achievement; that's how you get the cape so that you can wear it. Also, maybe I'm confused, but I could have sworn the access to old memories was filed in the menu under DNA. 12/15/2009 6:33:30 AM |

So has the game been out long enough now that we can discuss the ending without people whining about spoilers?
And also, did anyone else realize that throughout AC1 and AC2, Desmond is wearing a white hoodie? I bet at some point in AC3 he flips the hood up to look like Altair and Ezio.

^I'm not done yet. I'm too busy running about collecting stuff. I got the last seal last night, so now I can go get the Altair armor. 12/17/2009 8:00:17 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^Altair armor looks badass. Once you collect the codexes, (if you haven't already) make sure you read them in the Animus menu -> Database -> Documents. It gives you a little back story on what Altair's armor is made from and if you read between the lines a bit it is pretty freaking awesome when you find out what it actually is.
I got bored of running around collecting feathers and treasures and stuff so I read somewhere that you can still go back after beating it and collect that stuff so I went ahead and did so. I also didn't even know you could download the Auditore Assassin's Tomb (from uPlay)... if you get it, it gives you a little history on the Auditore family. I was hoping it would mention how Ezio and Altair are related, but alas no dice.
Anyways, out of respect for Byrn Stuff let's hold off on discussing the ending until he's done. It's pretty badass though. 12/17/2009 8:41:40 AM |
