man I can't believe they are changing this. I was raised being taught stories from the bible and, even as a little kid, this was one of my favorite lines. I think it may be one of the few lines that is first quoted in Hebrew too (or greek Im not sure), In my opinion its practically the climax of the entire bible.

From the front page of Conservapedia, in the "In the News" section:
Quote :
"Liberal hypocrisy anyone? In their condemnation of the Conservative Bible Translation Project, the critics have forgotten their praise for last year's "Green Bible", an eco-friendly edition made from recycled paper, processed soy ink, and the words of nature - not Christ - in green: [10][11]"

Because printing the Bible on recycled paper and changing the color of some words is totally the same thing as actually changing the words.

This sounds more like the "poetic" license to change the bible in order to align better with ultra-conservative, bigoted views.

What's probably ironic is that these are likely the same people who wave the literal interpretation of the bible flag. But now it's 'wrong' huh?

I second that.

Agreed. I'm sure whatever "product" they produce will be easily ripped to shreds by even evangelical conservative seminary students who've finished Ancient Greek and Ancient Hebrew 101 (assuming that it even gets off the ground as DirtyGreek points out).

I'm surprised this movement emerged given that there are already relatively "conservative" translations out there like ESV that have been vouched for by conservative evangelical denominations like PCA. Yet at least translations like ESV and NIV are on the same spectrum: they're using well established Hebrew and Greek source material, and the debate is more on the philosophy of translation (literal versus interpretive) than these bizarre arguments of "liberal" bias.

I suppose though when you live on the fringe, there really isn't a line on how far off the edge you can go.

Care to elaborate on that point?"

Well, I wasn't planning on it, but sure. Religious texts are written by people for their own ends. This has always been the case, and this is another example of this happening. The history of how the current bible was assembled is pretty easy to find, and it is basically the same story.

As far as how this relates to conservatives, well, QED.

To be perfectly frank, that sounds like a condemnation of people, not necessarily of religion.

But I suppose you'd argue that they're it's ultimately the same thing. I get the feeling that asking you to elaborate further would take this thread off course pretty quickly. Ah well.

Of course I think they're the same thing, and it's pretty obvious to me that any religious text, if it really is divinely inspired, shows us that god is a pretty insane deity, don't you think?

My thoughts on religion or the Judeo-Christian god are pretty well known at this point, I think, but here's something I wrote in response to some nonsense recently:

We're no strangers to threads on religion (or anything else) going off course, so feel free to ask away here or privately.

This.

Please do not confuse religious conservative nutjobs with rational political conservatism. This is the right-wing equivalent of PETA et al, which are just the batshit crazy lunatic fringe.

lullz, re-writting the bible in general isn't anything new but to do it for this reason is ridiculous.
