Not that it means that much, but Gamespot picked it as the GOTY. Fairly surprising since it wasn't a major release, and it usually goes to an over hyped game from a large developer.

I just got the game yesterday, does this "white" stuff mean that it is a lot easier? Like on 1-1 I didn't even see the dragon except in the cutscene. I walked out into the courtyard where I assume he was, and was able to loot all of the treasure safely.

yea the dragon's were gone cause of white tendency, you have to ability to get a shit ton of look without having to have done the work to get white tendency, better get it while the getting is good.

i just completely borked my game…

The only boss i have left to fight is the last boss, and i accidentally hit Stockpile Thomas and he wouldn’t stop attacking me. I read online there’s nothing you can do about this, so i killed him.

But i had been using the demonbrandt, which gets a huge boost from having perfect white character tendency (which i did), but killing stockpile thomas destroyed this.

I’ve been trying to get people to invade me, but i only had 9 ephemeral eyes on me (with like 20 more with stockpile thomas).

So now i have to try and level up to fight the last boss (i’m 84 or so), while staying in human form enough to be invaded to get my sword back up to where i can kill him easily too.

^damn that sucks, I did something similar the other day. I was in the menus with blacksmith ed upgrading and whatnot and casually dropped my controller to go do something. The R2 button triggered when it hit the couch and I smacked him. He ran away from me cowering and wouldn't talk to me anymore but I left and came back and then we were cool. It scared the shit out of me though as it happened around lvl 60 (I'm currently mid-70s with 2 bosses left). I guess I was lucky it was a catalyst in my right hand and not a sword or something, haha.

Just got this the other day. I've made a thief and gotten through 1-1 so far. Bad ass game. Love the comparison someone made to a Zelda without the coddling. Anyway, after I beat 1-1, I started buying magic and stats. In order to cast magic, I'm assuming I need an offhand "catalyst"? Is that right? If I'm on the right track with that, where can I find/buy the catalyst?

there is a wooden catalyst on the first tower across the first bridge in 1-2

you can also buy a catalyst for 1000 souls from a vendor in 3-1

yes, this game is badass. its like i want to do other things, but i always find myself in front of the ps3 playing it.

now that I've gotten a grasp on the game, I'm kind of hesitant to go into any of the worlds I haven't started yet. I'm trying to plan ahead for getting pure white world tendencies, etc to open up all the areas.

seems harder to go pure white than pure black for sure

You may want to play offline mode if you're going for pure white/black world tendencies. Every single one of my wt's should have been pure white after my last playthrough (I always suicided in the Nexus to stay in spirit form to prevent the shift to black if I die) but they always end up getting slightly darker (without me doing anything that would cause a shift, like killing Old King Doran). I think I've read that just being online (not invading or anything) can cause your wt's to shift but I'm not sure how/why.

i had my game invaded yesterday. was pretty intense and fun at the same time.

luckily after a battle that lasted a few minutes, i ended up winning.

Decided to try helping others online to (hopefully) bring my WT to pure white. I had a crap load of spices left from doing 3-1, so I decided to go to the Flamelurker teleport spot, run out to where the portal is before Flamelurker's boss right, and use my blue stone. My wait time would be ~1-2 minute and I'd net 5300-7500 souls after a 2 minute boss fight. Not bad. I'm just hoping that helping to kill a boss provides at least a .5 change towards white.

If not, oh well, still netted about 30-40k in souls doing that. Decided against putting it into stats, so..

I started jacking the upgrade levels on my gear. Got my winged spear to +7 (keeping it there for the time being in case I want to turn it into the Scraping Spear), purple flame shield to +6 (also keeping this one here in case I decide to turn it into a dark purple flame shield), and my dragon longsword to +4.

What weapons are you guys using? I started as a thief:

Used my dagger til I got the mail breaker
Used the mail breaker til I found a scimitar and crushing battle axe +1 (liked both those)
Found the winged spear and I've been using the hell out of that with the dragon longsword.

I have the compound short bow +3 (I think I heard that the compound long bow was the best so didn't want to put anymore points into a bow I'll replace). I haven't used a crossbow since I 1-2.

i usually switch between the dragon longsword +4 and the magic sword makoto. mostly the longsword due to its fast strikes and the ability to do slash damage and pierce damage.
