I think it's apparent that just because someone can recruit doesn't mean they are a good coach.

Sidney Lowe is about as inept as they come.

great, but you want that class to come in then get a new coach. That way a new coach has something to work with. Not a situation where you fire the coach, have no recruits, and the coach is put on the hot seat again.

^^so we start over again completely without his recruits? He wants to run a traditional up tempo team. To do that you need high caliber athletes traditionally (herbs tenure) we haven't had those recruits and we seem to be getting them in next year. He can't produce with those recruits I think it is time to be very concerned until then I can't get too excited about it. Or we could be complete jackasses about it and bitch and moan on every available media outlet make his job look in peril, loose these bad ass recruits, and then start all over again and continue this cycle.

Oh btw state fans we don't have a roy williams who is waiting in the wings to come to NCSU...

I'm not setting the bar for a Roy Williams. I'm setting the bar for someone who isn't a complete fuckup. There's a huge difference.

honestly roy williams isn't a great coach. He is a great recruiter with a brand that is sold for him by pop culture. The argument could be easily made that he was outcoached twice by Sid (once in the win and again in the ACC tourney final where state almost won both times with CLEARLY inferior talent).

Roy Williams' greatest coaching ability is throwing more and more athletes on the court. Carolina has a knack for losing the close games.

1 year of coaching well < 3 years of coaching shitty

25% success rate.

That's what we want.

Hey genius, who the hell did you want to get that could come in with 0 recruits in the first year and somehow immediately compete in a conference that has claimed 4 national championships in this decade alone? Oh and you want him to do it all in 3 years...

You can't expect someone to rebuild against those odds in less than 3 years. His fourth season hasn't even started and you're already trying to railroad him. He finally has recruiting going again (no small feat given how bad Lee Fowler fucked up the first year), and he finally has some athletes that can run his offense. And don't forget, next year we have the kind of recruiting class that NC State hasn't seen since Jimmy V still walked the floor of Reynolds.

nc state fans love to beg for people to get fired

first it was herb, now its sid, and soon i fear it will be TOB

rome wasnt built in a day. lowe gets at least 1 more year and TOB should get 2-3 after this one

this season is going to suck nuts. accept it. the one year extra year it will take to get harrow and zo into the program is worth it. if nothing seems to change with actual talent he brought in then fine, get a new coach

tob has 1 more year for me. he has no upside. his thing was that he'd come in here and after a couple building years do 7-8 wins, nothing more, nothing less. that's actually great for ncsu football. problem is that he isnt doing that. 1 divI win and 0 acc wins is as bad as anything Lowe has done

realistically, we're stuck with Lowe for 2-3 more years and TOB for at least 3, probably 4-5

I think some of you miss the point.

Regardless of the class that he has right now, do you think they're all still going to come here if Lowe wins 10 games? He'll be on the hot seat then no matter the recruiting class and the uncertainty that comes with being on the hot seat will drive people away.

Seriously, do you really think the average fan will give two shits how many stars Street and Smiths gives our recruits for next year have if we're mired at 1-8 in the ACC after the first half? At what point to you say "oh, hey, we're losing to Miami, Virginia Tech, and UVa by 10 or more regularly, maybe Lowe is as good a coach in the ACC as he was in the NBA." For how long are you going to go "we suck, but look at the possible recruiting class for next year!" I think it's all symptomatic of the ESPN or Pack Pride-ization of basketball: to fill a 24/7 cycle you have to keep dredging up more and more information, so fantasy league stuff gets a TV special and people start planning upcoming seasons based on stuff that has yet to happen, all while not paying attention to the big picture, which in this case is that Lowe hasn't show the ability to develop talent and create a cohesive team.

If by some of you, you are referring to yourself, then yes.

Quote :

Yes, Lowe will more than likely be on the hot seat, and yes, I think that the 2010 recruiting class is still going to come here. Harrow is scheduled to sign his LOI on November 11th. The LOI is, for all intents and purposes, a binding commitment that will almost assure that Harrow comes. He's making this commitment before we play any meaningful games, so Sidney's seat will not yet be hot, and thus Lowe's job security will not be an issue in his signing. Harrow and Lorenzo Brown are godbrothers and childhood friends and teammates. They are on record as saying that they wish to play in the same backcourt together in college. I seriously doubt the frustrated murmuring of fans like you or I are going to make one bit of difference in whether he still comes here or not. And I'm pretty sure Harrow and Brown helped sell Luke Cothron on NC State in the first place. If they were such a large part of why he committed, why would he not come if they are still on board?

Is this all conjecture on my part? Yes. Not unlike your chicken little "the sky is falling" approach to the future of our current recruiting class. It's almost like you think if you're negative enough about the likelihood of these recruits not coming, that they'll pick up on said negativity and not come, and then you can say "I told you so".

Since when does the "average fan" decide what direction their athletic program was headed? Last time I checked, Lee Fowler, aka "I wouldn't fire a Catholic priest leading the boys' choir in a circle jerk in the pulpit", controls Lowe's fate as coach. And by raising this argument, you are assuming that the "average fan", whatever the fuck that means, shares your pessimism about Lowe and the future of the program. Lowe hasn't had a decent point guard to work with since Atsur left. In case you've forgotten, in Lowe's first year, when Atsur was healthy, we played some pretty good basketball. We have what appears to be a stellar point guard all but committed (and will be committed on Nov. 11th) to coming here. To dismiss these facts can only be described as short-sighted and lacking focus on the "big picture" that you refer to below.

I actually agree with you about the overcoverage of news/sports news. And yes, Lowe has yet to show the ability to develop talent and create a cohesive team consisting of his own recruits. But unless we have a proven coach beating down our door to coach here, why not give him and what looks to be an awesome recruiting class a few more years to see if he can turn things around? Plenty of coaches have had rough starts only to go on to do great things later, Coach K and Mack Brown being just a few examples.

I don't think anyone here is advocating blindly following Lowe until he wins or dies, but, as some have pointed out, constantly hiring and then firing coaches isn't likely to breed success. Especially if potential coaches see such behavior and begin to think of us as some sort of coaching graveyard.

Let's be real

If Lowe were getting the axe, he'd be gone already

There's nothing he can do to worsen his situation this year, short of going 0-16

There are no expectations. We're gonna be horrible and everyone knows it. His seat really can't get all that hot until next year.

the key like ernie is saying is to have no expectations.

even if we start out 5-0, 4-1, or hell even 2-1 in the ACC. its always the same shit for state fans as far as getting overhyped up for a team or having too high expectations after a decent start

If I had to wager, I'd say 16 win season and he'll be back.

But if he wins 12 or fewer games, then no, I don't want to wait another 3 years for him to develop this freshman class you're busting nuts over. Log out of PackPride and go watch an actual game. Lowe is not a good coach.

i wasn't aware that breaking a commitment at this point was impossible. i'd rather win at App State than go 0-16 in the ACC.

I bet the year after this one we'll probably make the NIT with all that great talent we have coming in. Probably the year after that we'll be on the bubble for the NCAA tourney and get in. Then we'll lose in the first round because it's blatantly obvious to anyone who knows shit about basketball that a Sidney Lowe coached defense isn't worth a damn.

^ I know more about football, but I know a bad basketball team when I see one. I don't give a fuck if LeBron Bryant or Kobe James comes through the door, if we can't play defense we will never be an elite team.

better athletes = better defense. Not to mention we've only had one post player in Lowe's tenure who had any ability to block a shot (hickson).

Not saying the defense gets fixed this year, as we're still not an overly athletic team. But it should with improved recruiting.

Okay so according to Gopack:

Quote :
"All NC State students with valid identification and all season-ticket holders with vouchers will be admitted to the game, which tips off a 7:05 p.m. Students should get their tickets through the GoPack.com ticket center. No general admission tickets will be sold."

but when I go to claim a student ticket I get

Quote :
"Error
There are no more tickets available."

guess I'll try again tomorrow and if that doesn't work just show up to the game with ID.

They probably took too many student tickets away to sell to other people in anticipation that few students would want to go...or maybe you waited too long to claim one.
