When dealing with law enforcement and the judiciary, being honest and responsible gets you in more trouble and costs you more money than not being honest.

Unfortunate, but true.

"There's no different charge when it comes to fireworks of the firecracker variant--if you possess them and the cop finds them, it's the same as if the cop rolled up on you firing them off. Fireworks that actually explode--firecrackers, roman candles, and any firework that shoots or goes more than 15 feet in the air--is illegal in NC. Period. They set up blockades at the South Carolina border in the Summer JUST TO LOOK FOR THEM. They don't mess around with this shit in North Carolina. I ran a fireworks tent in Havelock over the Summer, and I got hounded a couple times by cops were said "they'd been told I was selling illegal fireworks", which was of course not true and after searching my entire container unit of them twice, they finally gave up."

simple solution: don't consent to searches. anywhere. ever.

the best policy is neither honesty nor dishonesty... it's simply keeping your mouth shut

its been said once, but i want to take a moment to reiterate this, call James Crouch.

Don't go with your friend's dad. James Crouch will get you off. He'll find the right judge and schmooze the cop. As long as you were respectful and since you were the only one who came forward in a group of 10 who were obviously participating then the cop will be inclined to go with you.

the worst thing that is going to happen is you will have to show up to court 2 or 3 times over a period of 4 - 6 months.

hell, i know of situations where james crouch has gotten people off and then the cop had to write them a letter of apology. i know of times where they ruled conviction, and then james spoke to the cop and then they both spoke with the judge and overturned the dwi.

call him and wash your worries away.

well that situation is a little more difficult if the cop just walks onto private property and observes the crime... may be able to fight that with a good lawyer...

but the situation in the OP clearly shows that it's her own fault for getting caught. showing cops the incriminating evidence is no fault but your own...

I can't help but laugh at this thread. Maybe I'm a paranoid fucker, but I just can't follow the thought process that leads to showing the cops your stash of illegal fireworks. The cops aren't your parents. Hell, you're fucking graduated from college for christ sakes , you should have figured these things out by now.

With that said, get a lawyer. Like a couple of posters pointed out, its rare for people even to be charged with BS like this and the cop was probably just being a prick (or maybe someone tied his hands by showing him the evidence...). A lawyer may be able to get it dropped.
