^ exactly, she is the future of the GOP.
Sarah Palin and the (hopefully) up-and-coming "conservative" party-- the same social conservative, pretend-to-be-fiscal-conservatives that we've known for years are going to be the best thing the Democrats could hope for.
The Democrats worst fear would be "Republican" politicians who can put their money where their mouth is when it comes to spending, but who aren't bigots when it comes to civil rights and other issues.

^^ She's not a moderate--she's a liberal. And nobody can figure out WTF Newt was doing there--it's just one more reason that he's becoming increasingly marginalized as a potential candidate for any future public office.
^ I don't think a far-left loon like you has any credibility predicting the "future of the GOP"--especially considering Democrats got their asses handed to them tonight.
What is the fucking future of the Democrats? Are they going to stop running campaigns from the "middle" that are total bullshit and then actually governing from the far-left?

^ So democrats winning the presidency and congress means they're NOT supposed to try to enact the legislation they campaigned on, but republicans winning 2 governors races means voters want the president and congress to change the course (that they were elected on in the first place)

I agree with Duke's post on page one. The lessons that the Republicans need to learn is that Chris Christie is not a particularly conservative Republican and Bob McDonnell ran without explicitly tying himself to the Republican party (he rarely mentions his affiliation in ads and one of the predominant colors he used was blue). The only overtly conservative candidate lost in an district which had gone to the GOP since the 1860s.
The Christian wing of the GOP needs to realize most people don't really feel a compelling need to prevent homosexuals from wedding or stop all abortions. Unfortunately, they won't.
Quote : | "2 cases of voter intimidation by tea-baggers" | Pro-life (anti-choice, whatever) protesters aren't "tea-baggers". The tea parties were pretty narrowly targeted against a perception of government excess and drew a lot of libertarians who would oppose strict laws on abortion.

I love it, I absolutely love it. Two governor seats go to the GOP and the press is saying that it's bad news for Obama. Even MSNBC is saying how horrible this is for the Democrats and how this is just so important for the Republicans.
Meanwhile the two races that actually matter to Obama, since they affect CONGRESS, both went to Democrats. One of them in a heavily GOP district and the other in a district that is by no means a guarantee.
So, when thinking locally people voted Republican, and when thinking nationally people voted Democrat. But this is a huge blow to Obama, of course. 11/4/2009 6:17:43 AM |

And I mentioned it in another thread, but I'm glad the NY-23 race turned out the way it did. It's absolutely scary to think that a guy who listed Glenn Beck as one of his top mentors would win a congressional seat. I imagine he only did that to gain the loony vote, but still...

It took a RINO to leech enough votes from a Conservative candidate to steal a win in upstate New York to a democrat who won with less than half of the votes...I wouldn't exactly call that a mandate for Obama.

To me, changes in party balance don't matter all that much. Sure, if we get the right Republicans in office, it might make a difference. Most mainstream Republicans won't be any better than a Democrat though, really.

You can try. The difficulty is winning Republican primaries. Running as an independent isn't really a viable option, unless you enjoy wasting your time. I think there's a lot of potential support for libertarian-minded individuals, there just isn't a great place for them in the two party system.

The two victories–one in New York district 23 where Bill Owens became the first Democrat to win the seat in over a century and in California district 10 where John Garamendi kept the seat vacated by Ellen Tauscher in Democratic hands — brings the number of Democrats in the House to 258.
That gives Pelosi a little more breathing room as she tries to muster the votes needed to pass the sweeping health reform legislation. She could lose as many as 40 Democrats when the House votes, possibly later this week, and still pass the measure.
The two new members are expected to be sworn into office on Thursday." |
