I saw it last night and about half the audience laughed when they showed the owl. I don't think the other half understood it. 4/5/2010 3:06:09 PM |

So it's more of an inside joke cameo appearance. Gotcha. 4/5/2010 3:49:18 PM |

I liked it. Also, it is the first 3D movie that I've seen and I am sold on it. 4/5/2010 11:01:25 PM |

Movie was pretty shitty. Luckily I'm easily entertained and don't regret going to see it. But don't go in expecting much other than a decent action flick.

I wanted them to at least to attempt to follow the first movie...which was a fucking classic. I don't think that should have been hard to do and still put together a bad-ass action flick.
So lets say that I was initially excited when I saw they were going to remake this. After seeing some pretty weak reviews, I tempered my expectations and was okay with it just being an average action movie. 4/7/2010 11:54:43 PM |

My thoughts exactly. I put aside the fact there would be problems with the story, characters and script long before I went to see it. It was a remake of a movie based on erroneous Greek mythology using clay figures. The fact it even got made amazes me more than the people complaining about such trivial things.4/7/2010 11:57:19 PM |

Well how good did ya'll think the movie was??
Even if it didn't follow the first one well...it was still an average action flick. About the only good things were the fighting scenes. A lot of everything else looked like a poor B movie. Everything Hades did was horrible. I don't know what the fuck they were trying to do with him...but it failed. It was just very cheesy. And trust me...I'm not picky with action movies. 4/8/2010 12:07:32 AM |

First off, I loved the original. Something I failed to mention before. I've probably seen it as much as anyone here.
But when a movie like this comes out you have to take it for what it is; a popcorn movie. It's not meant to make you think, it's not meant to make you wonder, it's made to try and take you away to a place the writers and directors want to take you. You have to realize that some movies are made for money and not to make you feel good about what you saw when you leave. Once you've paid your ticket, they're done. I enjoyed the movie for what it was. Welcome to Hollywood. 4/8/2010 12:21:07 AM |

I'm not arguing that it wasn't a popcorn movie. I'm fine with that. I love popcorn movies...shit...I love all movies. But it wasn't even that great of a popcorn movie. So people can be disappointed with this movie for two reasons:
1) It didn't really follow the original.
2) Even if it didn't follow the original, it still wasn't that great of a movie. A few good action scenes and one pretty girl. So for that reason, to me, it was watchable and I didn't feel like I wasted my money. But the acting was still bad (even for a "popcorn movie"), there were too many cheesy parts (even for a "popcorn movie"...especially considering all the pub its gotten), and it was just completely thrown together. Even though the whole "Clash of the Titans" story is pretty ridiculous (I mean...it is Greek mythology)...they somehow made this movie seem even more ridiculous with the way they just threw shit together.
Bitching about it not being like the original aside...it still wasn't that great of a movie. 4/8/2010 9:04:58 AM |

I haven't seen it but plan to.
However, following the original is more of a compliment than a negative. The original was not a very good movie. You probably remember it fondly, but it was pretty shitty. Go back and re-watch it.
V I have heard far more positive than negative about the film as a fun action movie. However I have heard nothing but bad about the 3D version. Pretty much avoid it so we don't give studios the impression that shitty 2.5D is acceptable.

Haven't seen it but disappointed that it's not even a good action movie, apart from the original. Oh well, I'll save my $$. 4/8/2010 9:13:32 AM |

The movie was made in 1981. It had a giant sea monster, a flying horse, a woman with snakes coming out of her head, a half man/half horse, etc... When I've watched it in the recent years, I might only think its "shitty" because of the effects. But it was 1981...they did about as good a job as you could do with that stuff. It was still a great movie.
^^And I've heard more negative than positive reviews. Mine wasn't meant to be negative...but having to explain to some people in this thread that it really wasn't even that great of an action movie has made my review seem more negative. I would say that it is an AVERAGE action movie.
Oh...and perfect "consensus review" I found on rottentomatoes:
Quote : | "An obviously affectionate remake of the 1981 original, Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans doesn't offer enough visual thrills to offset the deficiencies of its script." |
Also...the preview I saw for Robin Hood looked FUCKING AMAZING.

I wasn't calling it a shitty movie because the effects were bad. Of course the effects were bad, it was 1981.
The movie, regardless of effects, was not a good one. 4/8/2010 11:44:36 AM |

I saw it in 3D and thought it was awesome. However, I've heard this complaint too and being that it was my first one in 3D, I didn't really have a basis for comparison. At times it did seem a little dark around the edges and sometimes a little blurry. The trailer about the cartoon owls before the movie was also in 3D and that looked incredible! where was the story?
i seriously though i was halfway through the movie when it abruptly ended. at no point did i have a clear understanding of what his course of action was and every detour he took made no sense nor added anything to the story. terrible movie.
only good part was the Medusa fight scene 5/6/2010 12:27:33 AM |
