i'm not really angry at smath about spoiling the ending of mario. the reason i was angry at that time was because I read a review of modern warfare 2 and part of the game was spoiled. momentarily afterward i saw what she wrote and, since i was already kind of annoyed, it just fueled the fire. what i am referring to is:

airport level where you have the choice to kill civilians. Why the fuck don't these reviewers include some kind of disclaimer so I wouldn't have to read that shit? Wouldn't it be more exciting for people playing the game to discover it on their own?

Yes, I know I have the choice in reading the reviews....but for a lot of people the reviews make or break whether or not they buy the game. In my opinion, spoiling part of the game like that in the review I read is pretty inexcusable in that regard.

This is definitely one of the tougher Mario games out there. Especially in multiplayer where it's easy as hell to get your partner killed. Really fun, though.

it plays like super mario brothers 1.5, when what i really wanted was super mario world 1.5

I couldn't be happier with the game. The later levels keep the difficulty intact and are a ton of fun IMO.

My only complaints would be that boss battles are too easy, the graphics are pretty bland, and the music is so-so. Otherwise this is pretty ideal in terms of what I'd want in a modern, 2D Mario game.

You can buy a video at Peach's Castle that shows how. It's one of the "Secret Goal" videos.

Basically there's a pipe in world 2-4 (the windy stage) that you have to use the propellar hat to reach.

I know this will probably get a lot of blowback, but I honestly think Super Mario Galaxy is the best one yet. Super Mario Bros 3 remains my favorite of the 2D ones though.

Finished everything except the last few Star coins. I'll probably play through half the levels again when I go home for Thanksgiving

I liked Mario 64 better than galaxy...galaxy didn't have enough of a challenge.

I will always have an affinity for side-scrollers, and SMW was in my opinion the ultimate one. I never saw what the big deal about SMB3 was.

world 8's music rocks! still waiting to get some time to beat it. on 8-5 with all 3 stars on every level and no cheating i actually made it to the final 8-castle and did a quick save, came back, then did an "exit to title screen" without saving... and it brought me back to my midway save at the 1st castle on level 8. not the end of the world but a bad bug nonetheless.

that's how quick save works. your save isn't permanent and it gets erased as soon as you load up the file again.

and i found the castles and fortresses in SMW to be much harder than in this new game

one thing that upsets me is the lack of colored yoshi specialties. he doesn't even breath fire after swallowing a red shell, what is up with that?

i miss the blue yoshi/blue shell flying ability

i used to go to the star road everytime time and time again to get blue yoshi everytime i lost him, then hopped over to top secret area for bonus feathers

(another thing i miss...carrying extra powerups with you through the level)

Played with 4 players after Thanksgiving with a cousin who never plays anything without Madden or NBA in the title. Had a blast.

BTW if you're getting killed a lot in multiplayer, you can hit the A button to put your character in a bubble and save yourself. It's a life saver when you're about to jump somewhere and someone lands on your head.

there is a level early in world 8 that sounds like a mix of classic mario music with a Zelda fire temple tone.

also, level 8-7 just might be my favorite side scrolling level of any game ever

I have yet to discover 8-7, and I've beaten the game.

Some of these coins are fucking tricky.

I love pretty much everything in this game, but my favorite are all the throwback details; I love that they brought back the original Koopa kids, the airship stages, how the background music gets a drum beat when you get Yoshi, the red switch from World 4, and I LOVE the throwback to Yoshi's Island where the Magikoopa flies across the screen and does his magic in a boss fight.

Some of the bosses in this game are siiiiiiiiick. The soundtrack is amazing too. My favorite song by far is the background music from World 2.
