dear bmw. If you really want to impress me, for the f10 m5, start reproducing e34 m5s. NOBODY would see that coming. believe it or not, I think you could get away with charging whatever you would have charged for an f10 m5. true. The volume would be way lower, but the profit margin would be gigantic.

[Edited on December 26, 2009 at 4:42 AM. Reason : omg blue with silver sills and sworl-star-5-spokes is the hottness]

I think in about 2 generations, a driver will need a CDL to legally drive an M car.

I would have to argue that a lot of people in this thread have awful taste in cars then. There is no way this 5 series is uglier and less sexy than a bmw from a decade ago unless you're on crack

^^^ WTF people, those two cars are towards two different groups of people.

^^ It's taste that matters...many people would disagree that it's not "ghetto"ed"" out, if they prefer aftermarket body upgrades then let em do what they want...it isn't your money

^ you agree beacuse your taste is the same

I, however like the second car...but I would choose a different color scheme and rim setup. See...your car is YOUR car. You don't like my car? Then, whatever...

You're right...

1st is for person A now.
2nd is for person A 10 years ago.
2nd is also for person B now because they can't afford the 1st.

If they started reproducing the e30/e34, I would be one of the first people in line to buy a new one. E30 m3 bodies with s52 engines would be one awesome car to manufacture. The technology is already there so recouping those costs happened years ago. Hell, I would burn a weeks worth of vacation to work that assembly line.

The difference is that in 10 years this new car will look like trash, whereas the E34 and E39 will still look good.

I can honestly say that I've owned a lot of cars and my e39 has that one something I can't put my finger on. It's a pos, but when I've fixed one problem before another comes up, I really like it. I've felt this way about one other car.

Good man.

I do find it funny that a lot of the newer designs by car manufacturers aren't aging well at all. Pretty much every Japanese car manufactured 2001-2006, with a very narrow field of exceptions, look like trash now. BMW's have aged better, but I don't know what the current 5 series will feel like 10 years from now. By contrast, I look at a E30 and even an E36 and still want to drive it. I definitely can't say the same for an E46, even though I thought they were hot shit when they originally came out.

the E30 is still hot shit now...the E36 was trash then as it is now (more so now) and the E46 M3 i'm not a fan of at all.

Honestly though, I've never heard someone say they think the E36 is an unattractive car.

Ahmet is probably the biggest reason why I think E36's now are trash

There's something to be said for a car that can rack up thousands up on thousands of miles and then survive ahmet's driving.

but its survivability ends there. If Ahmet wasn't so good with the mechanics of the car I fear they would have all seen junk yards quite early on. haha

i think e30s are hot and that e36s and e46s have aged very well. as have the e39s. i also agree that any car that can withstand 100k+ miles followed by ahmet driving is ok in my book.

Officially Official: 2011 BMW 335is

Recap:

2010 (2011?) 335i (and 135i) has the new N55 single turbo engine (same 300/300 numbers as outgoing twin turbo N54).

However, the N54 lives on in the new 335iS, which has been created exclusively for North America! Available in coupe/convertible form only. The numbers:

320 hp
332 lb/ft, increases to 370 lb/ft under special conditions
6-sp manual standard
7-sp DCT optional
$50,525 for coupe
$59,075 for vert
0-60 mph in 5.0 sec (DCT)
0-60 mph in 5.1 sec (manual)

Of course, those acceleration figures are very conservative. The 335i with 300 hp has been timed in 4.9? 4.8? seconds. So, this can do perhaps 4.7 seconds.

Pics and driving footage here:
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/23/officially-official-2011-bmw-335is-w-video/

Debut at NYIAS in March.

Nearly 60k for a non M 3-series is too much, I'm sorry. Buy an M3. That or save your money and picked up a used twin turbo and do a little work.

Although... 7 speed would be nice.

i have had my eye on a 335i coupe for a while

now i see they have a 335is....too expensive vs. a plain M3.

i think i'll continue to aim for the 335i with the M-package......usually how long after an LCI do they wait to do a complete refresh?

Looks so much better than the current ugly ass wagon (see last 3 pics and click on links below). Also you can see that it is much closer to the E39 than the outgoing ugly model.

Oddly enough I'm only really noticing it in BMW's designs. I have no complaints about the front ends of Mercedes, Audi or Jaguar vehicles...
