Wow, Stoops didn't even try to use it to get more money from Oklahoma?

I guess there's just not more money he can squeeze out of that athletic department.

I could see Skip Holtz to UVA, I guess it would really depend on how Terry Holland feels about it. I'm sure he's still got plenty of ties to UVA, and might even be willing to release Holtz if ECU gets something in return.

^^I've read several places that UVA is considering the current head coach at Richmond. I think he's an UVA alum.

Holtz to UVA is not being discussed in Virginia. The Temple and Richmond Head Coach were both Groh assistants.

Seriously? Al Golden?

Temple moved to the MAC and he's still only managed one good season. I guess he's the benefit of the "he's having a good season therefor it follows that his bad seasons get ignored" bias that happens in so many coaching searches.

Seriously? Temple won 3 games in 3 years before he was hired. The 5-7 season last year was the best record at Temple in almost 20 years...

1-11, 4-8, 5-7, 9-3

He is winning at Temple, even if the MAC is weak, and has improved his record each year. If he has 2 more winning seasons they might name the field after him...

I think people also like that he coached under George Welsh, not to mention JoePa. Pennsylvania is very important recruiting territory for UVA.

Mike London may be the candidate to beat though, unless they go for a bigger name hire.

They moved from a BCS conference to the Big 10's younger brother.

Not to have improvement would have been horrific. So no, I don't want to give too much credit for that, since it might just have been them normalizing to their newer and easier schedule.

This season they went 9-3, and that's good. I'm just saying that before programs start looking at him they might want to see if he can, perhaps, repeat that sort of success.

But, like I said, the "omg you did well this season" bias tends to overwhelm.

I like the idea of Mike London. Granted that he's playing in the FCS division, but he'd got a long way towards UVA reestablishing themselves in Virginia's recruiting scene.

UVA needs a coach this year, so I don't think they will wait to see if he can repeat that success.

Also, you could wait until they repeat that sort of success, or get hired and demonstrate it at a big school [see Johnson, Paul]. He was interviewed by UCLA in 2007.

I'm not arguing he is necessarily the best candidate, just that he's a stronger candidate than you are giving credit for.

Richt fired his whole defensive staff (except Rodney Garner of course)... already saying he might reunite with Amato as his new defensive coordinator as Amato wont be getting the FSU DC job. I dont see it happening.

Kansas added to the list, as Mangino resigns after agreeing on a settlement with the school. Gary Patterson has a buyout clause in his contract, and he is supposedly itching for a Big 12 job (which he recently extended with TCU). Seems like he would be at the top of the list.

My 2 cents that no one asked for...

I don't see Skip leaving ECU for UVA to rebuild a team yet again. I only see him leaving for a big time job offer like Notre Dame or another Big Name school in the SEC or somewhere. He's a good coach but not a great one. His name has helped him a lot at ECU... get recruits others might not get to go there. He also still has kids in school & has stated his family likes it there so he'll make an effort to stay unless a great oppertunity comes calling. He dosen't want to drag his family around like Lou did to him. He gets paid very well in greenville, they're expanding the stadium in the endzone this winter for next year, so his pay will go up since he gets a cut of the tickets sold plus I'm sure they'll re work his contract yet again this off season if he stays. Not to mention UVA is a major project with VT so close.

Notre Dame wants instant success after their past few coaches so I don't see them looking at Holtz very long. There will be speculation rumors about it, but I don't honestly see the ND fan base being happy with that hire...they can get better.

Kanas is a shit job, god bless the coach that will take that project on, a basketball school with not a lot of fb success. Not to mention the ugly fucking uniforms.

Marshall could be a good job for a up & coming coach

Louisville should be able to get someone good based on their history & conference.

I don't' know shit about the western teams like San Jose St or UNLV...fuck em.

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/dec/04/two-successors-stand-out-most-replace-kansas-coach/

The talk in Kansas is all about Jim Harbaugh and Sumlin from Houston. Kansas can double Harbaugh's salary even after his recent raise, if he doesn't hold out for the Michigan job. Word is he burned some bridges at Michigan though.

There are other names floating around like Patterson, Peterson, Holtz, Turner Gill, but the two names above look like the top 2 targets.

VERY excited about London taking over. He is from the Hampton Roads area which is a hotspot for football talent so he should be able to recruit aggressively against Va Tech. I think he can turn around the program in two years.

Turner Gill to Kansas (interviewed, reportedly leading candidate)

meh, may as well get destroyed by a team thats going to win double digit games than lose by a touchdown or so to a team thats headed for 7 to 8 wins

If the 3 hires mentioned above happen, that will take care of all profile/BCS conference openings other than Cincy. Interestingly low amount of dominoes this year (FSU had coach in waiting, others went for assistants or very small schools with the exception of Notre Dame/Cincy).

Any chance JoePa or someone else retires?

What about Houston Nutt to KU?

I think Nutt would have done great here at State, but that's assuming that 3rd-5th in conference is ok.

If he goes to Kansas, he'll probably always be behind Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ok. State, Texas Tech, and Nebraska.

^Ole Miss, and yes he does throw his name out there for every opening in hope of raises. I'm surprised Butch's agent hasn't floated his name more overtly. Maybe he already got another raise.

I'm a bit surprised Kansas is after Gill over Sumlin, especially given after this season. Maybe they don't want another offensive guru.

In other news, KU (former) Offensive Coordinator Warinner interviews for the Akron HC job.

Gill is also an offensive guy, but Gill has spent less time an assistant and has more experience as a player/personnel guy and Head Coach. Also read he has a daughter attending KU (and he played at Nebraska).

Jimbo Fisher hired Eddie Gran away from Tennessee as RBs and special teams coach. Most if not all of the defensive staff should be new as well, starting with Mickey Andrews' replacement at DC.

^Old news (even if it isn't yet official). Pretty much the whole defensive staff will be gone.

UGA is after Alabama's DC. Sal Sunseri's name coming up for DC (Alabama OLB coach and former Panthers D Line coach). If there is anything to the Kirby Smart to UGA rumor, he may stay at Alabama though.
