I'm not saying they're automatically more credible, but they certainly aren't less credible given the history of people being exonerated by DNA evidence in our criminal justice system. I think it's the height of American arrogance to just assume another country's justice system is backwards and unjust when your entire knowledge of the situation is based on a few news articles that are likely hopelessly biased towards the American girl and her family. If you travel to another country you are subject to their laws and their ways of investigating breaches of said laws, and if you think they are are unjust or unfair then tough shit...you can't just expect the world to adopt our way of doing things because you think it's better.

I think alot of the forensic evidence was problematic in this case, but that could be said for a lot of criminal cases in the U.S. as well.

I'm saying that if you go to another country you are subject to their criminal justice system, even if that criminal justice system is less than fair, and if you have a problem with that then don't fucking go to another country. It's an issue of sovereignty, we can't impose our ways of doing things on other countries simply because we think they are better. Also I have a problem with the assumption that Italy's criminal justice system is automatically more prejudicial than America's...just look at the Eve Carson case, those dudes were convicted in the media long before they'll get a trial. Media attention will affect a trial no matter where you go.

look, dude, nobody here is saying she should be acquitted because Italy doesn't do it the way we do. Hey, if Italy doesn't have an "innocent until proven guilty," that's their business. It is certainly possible to hold a trial fairly, even under those circumstances. It is hard, however, to have a fair trial when the jury isn't sequestered in a highly charged case where the media is fucking vilifying the defendant day in and day out. but, again, that's NOT a reason to acquit her. It's a reason to say "hey, the process could have been better," which is what most people here are saying. this is more than just a matter of "follow italy's laws in court," no matter how much you try to boil it down to that.
