OK, I decided to get something else. Lowered my asking price by almost $3k. If/when that car goes, I'll be shopping for probably a turbo. I want something turbocharged I think, a 911 turbo would be pretty cool...
In other news the M3 was picked up from California yesterday, on it's way to me! 4/27/2010 12:22:17 AM |

It's no secret that I like M3s...
As for the EVO, I want something fast, so that's out... I kid I kid, sure I'd do an EVO, I still want a 911 turbo as well though. I wish I could afford a GT2 4/27/2010 12:38:09 AM |

I was offered a clean/low mile Z06 in trade for my 996. The guy is serious, and I was tempted, only if to track it a few times, but I think I'll have to pass. I imagine it'd be a pain to sell also, and besides it's red...
It would be cool to show up to the Alfa Club event in a 5.7 liter car, considering they have a 3.5 liter displacement limit however. 4/30/2010 5:16:34 PM |

In general I prefer more muted or natural/lighter colors. The last thing I need is more attention, and there's the guido factor. Yes, I guess I don't like red on a car. It looks good on an S2k, on an early GTi, a GT3, a Mini (w/a white roof), etc, but not my cup of tea. 4/30/2010 9:21:40 PM |

how come you dont buy collector cars? 5/1/2010 4:36:16 PM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
What do you consider collectible?
I buy cars that I like a lot, some of them are pretty rare. For example all my M3s have been e36 4 door manuals, fewer than 2500 were made. I've owned a 1 of 11 Satin Black 944 turbo S (had 28k miles one owner car at the time), of which there were fewer than 600 made total if I remember correctly, etc.
I'd love to, and might get a GT3/2 or a turbo, (around 900 world wide GT3s, fewer GT2s but many more turbos) but I suppose those aren't collectible either. Anyway, so what do you mean collectible? 5/1/2010 5:03:07 PM |
Ragged All American 23473 Posts user info edit post |
like old ass euros. Are they not in tip top condition. I understand that you drive them like you want to but do collector cars just not handle as well to you?
when you gonna step up to lambos? j/k 5/1/2010 6:01:24 PM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
So I honestly don't think that "my driving" does anything to a car that's not on it's last leg. I don't consider myself abusive, and I haven't had internal engine problems or transmission problems or the like in a car that I've owned, that wasn't on purpose. There was a 944 turbo that I ran 25+psi of boost on 87 octane gas TO blow it, prior to an engine rebuild, but hey I was like 19 then...
I'm not really interested in any Lambos, though I'd started thinking about an F360. Won't happen with my current financial situation, but nice to dream.
I do want, and have been looking for a VW GTi (MK1 or maaaaaybe MK2), as well as another e30. Those are probably not old enough either though. 5/1/2010 8:03:33 PM |

Switzer GT2 R911S
Official press release says:

And the 2nd best thing? It is only 200K, cheaper than the 245K GT2 RS just released, which has only 620 hp!
See when someone asks what you drive, you can say:
I have a 911... [1-2 sec pause] ...hp car

Soooooo, what to get next. I was thinking about an Evo, or a Type-R (seriously?), um.. or a GT3, another 996? I still want a custom turbo old car, maybe an e30. Also want to go racing wheel to wheel. Oh my, I feel nervous! Then there's the V70R, that doesn't fit anywhere, but we all want things. 5/27/2010 2:20:26 PM |

those are kinda cool, but awfully expensive, and downright out-of-sight (in terms of price) if you get one with the S54.
There's a price premium due to the rarity, but rarity isn't that big of a selling point to me. 5/29/2010 12:56:35 PM |

Have you considered the 2 or 3 vehicle solution?
A nice, utilitarian daily driver and a hell-on-wheels track car (like, it can be street legal if you want, but really strictly a toy)? Something like a Volvo wagon, and something like a Super 7, Flyin' Miata, Formula __ car, or LS1 swapped ___?
Or you could get a slightly less utilitarian DD (say, 330i or S4), a beater pickup for hauling stuff around, and a hardcore track car... 5/30/2010 7:37:12 AM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
I live in a condo If I could afford a house w/a multi car garage, AND cars, it'd prolly be a 911 variant, a custom turbo crapbox BMW and a Volvo V70R.
When I did have multiple cars, I just drove the fun one around all the time. When I had the modified WRX and M3 w/suspension +the 996 w/the suspension, I always ended up driving the 911. Likewise when I had the 944 turbo race car + the Volvo 850 turbo wagon, I always drove the 944 turbo, and that car was stripped with race tires, cage, no sound insulation, etc. My life was hell!
Anyway, I think I'm getting serious about either an EVO -again... or a later model 911/GT3/turbo, blah. 5/31/2010 2:38:37 AM |
theDuke866 All American 52839 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, the condo thing is a buzzkill. I'd be up for living in an apt/condo and saving money over having a 3BR/2.5 bath house just for me to live in by myself...but I needed garage space, driveway space, and audio privacy so my neighbors wouldn't be subjected to my electric guitars.
at any rate, have you ever read the story about how Slash went out partying with Charlie Sheen, and they both stayed so coked up that neither of them slept for, like, a week? Finally, Slash said "Dude, that's enough--I cry uncle. Hookers and blow are going to kill you. You need to get your act together and stop living so hard."
Well, that's kinda what it's like when I'm the one saying that you have a problem when it comes to cars, hahaha.
*** If you're making money on them all, then that's not bad, though, other than the frustration of being perpetually dissatisfied.
^get the Evo. WAAAY cheaper, a ton of fun, and you're gonna get tired of whatever you get and sell it before long anyway, so you might as well get something that you haven't done before.

Ha, that's funny... I do have a problem, I freely admit.
The fact that I'm OCD and track the cars obviously doesn't help, but I have patience when looking for a car, a broad range of interest, and access to tools/lift/parts@cost, so overall I'm in the black.
I agree on the house situation, but I'm lucky enough to be at the top floor/corner unit of a condo, and my downstairs neighbor is understanding (or hard of hearing!) and much older. As my music listening pleasure is paramount, and it hasn't been a problem. I'll probably move to a house at some point, but I want something small. Oddly, there aren't too many small houses with a 3 car garage and enough space for a lift? One day soon.
BTW, I adore the Z3 M coupes, though I'm still e36'd out at the moment. 5/31/2010 12:13:34 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52839 Posts user info edit post |
I don't know that a 3-car garage is necessary, at least for me. I'll probably always have multiple vehicles, but probably only enough nice, expensive ones to fill a large 2-car garage. If I needed more--particularly if it was a small house--I'd probably just build a detached workshop building.
My problem is that there aren't a lot of small houses that are also nice and in nice locations. I don't need a lot of square footage, but I want to live in a nice place (hopefully on the water, next time I buy a house). 5/31/2010 12:51:49 PM |
