Guns 'N Roses, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam would definitely be on the short list. Maybe Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, or the Beatles, too. I'm not convinced the Stones or Pink Floyd would be much different now in their prime than they are now.

^ they were early on in the sense that they were a cultural phenomenon. Later, they weren't a live band at all...they quit touring, partially/largely in order to free themselves up to go nuts doing crazy stuff (for the time) in the studio that they couldn't really reproduce in a live show (although that never seemed to be a problem for Pink Floyd).

I used to love Blues Traveler, until their last 3 or so shitty albums. I would have loved to see them before they started sucking so hard, but alas, I never had the money or transportation.

Also, the Talking Heads, though in this case by "during their peak" I mean "when they existed."

The Stones' performance films, in order of importance, are as follows:

1. Cocksucker Blues
2. Gimme Shelter
3. The Rolling Stones' Rock 'n' Roll Circus (which is only worth watching for the Who, but still)

That is all.

Same is true for Guns n Roses...they would either play for 3 hours and rock, or show up late or Axl would get pissed off about something and they would leave. Ya never knew.

I was lucky enough to see Pantera back in the day, it kicked ass

Let me be a little more clear about the Paul Oakenfold choice. It has more to do with the venues/clubs and the environment he was performing in and the crowds back around 2000 that was supposed to be so badass in addition to his set lists.

Well....

Mozart or Bach would probably be the awesomest.

The Allman Brothers Band - Duane/Dickey Combo....wow
The Temptations....David Ruffin's voice is undeniably one of the best ever
Stevie Ray Vaughn......
Led Zeppelin......
Elvis Presley before he got fat
Van Halen w/ Diamond Dave in the 70s w/ Eddie introducing tapping to the world with his back to the crowd.....

I could keep this up for a while

[The] Smashing Pumpkins circa 1995.

I remember when I was living on LI and they were playing at the Nassau Memorial Colosseum, I wanted to go, yet I was just 10 years old.

haha dead/broken up bands/artists ftw

honestly right now the only band I'd rush to see (not counting reunion tours) if they came close to Raleigh would be Modest Mouse, Radiohead, and MGMT
