I think it's they don't bother trying out something new and testing it. I've only walked into one place that's even heard of SpeedEdit and for everyday editing tasks it runs circles around Premiere and FinalCutHD. Not just single circles either - 100% background rendering is the heat. Forget 'exporting' and waiting 3-4 hours. You hit export it says 'writing file' and you're good in 10 minutes. Toss in edit-on-the-fly (change stuff while the video is still playing) no need for transcoding/rendering (drop in a quicktime file, a DV tape and 3 flash videos from the web - hit play, it plays.... as it should - without rendering) default transitions by file type, storyboarding, instant clip export (similar to 'group' or 'link' in photoshop - they now function as 1), multi-clip effects (color correct that whole batch in 2 clicks - forget clicking every one) and programmable 'tabs' on clips. Similar to how audio works in Premiere where you can just drag the line up and down to adjust volume you can do fades and transitions without menus or anything - just drag the line and watch the magic.

In summary:

Quote :
"I think they're just caught in a vacuum of "yea these are the best" instead of actually trying out something new and testing it"

Clearly, assuming that everyone else is irrational is the basis for a sound argument

fwiw, i'm not in the graphics or design industries, nor anything related to them. and i'm a fan of both windows 7 and mac os x.

i'd rather not see my thread turn into another holy war between macs and PCs, thanks.

haha, I'm all linux myself... except the dev machines - those are getting reloaded over the holiday to Win7.

Hoping MediaShout doesn't eat Win7... that would be unfortunate.

I will say that until MSv4 came out I was very envious of ProPresenter. They did that software RIGHT. However MSv4 closes a lot of that gap and adds a ton of great features to boot.

^hmmmm.... don't the new one's have solid bodies... IE have to ship it in for a new battery? Dealbreaker for me.

Actually... didn't they just release the plastic unibody with black again? I remember the black editions only being like $150 more but they held their value for much longer over the whiteys.

Or you could get a Dell Mini, save a boatload of cash and hackintosh it

^ How often do you replace the battery on your laptop? Keep in mind, these batteries are designed to last more than just a few years while still retaining good battery life. I believe the 13/15" MBPs are rated at 7 hours of battery life. So really, how is not being able to easily switch out the battery a deal breaker? I suppose if you carry around a spare battery, which I only know one person who does that, I could understand.

Also. ack! A netbook. I know they make decent Hackintoshes, but still? A netbook? They're cheap for a reason. Small ass screen, weak ass processor, small ass keyboard. They're just all around shit, which the price tag does fit what you're getting.

My roommate has an ASUS EEEPC as his only computer. I would definitely be pissed off with a netbook.

I already have a netbook, and I'm using it right now. It's fine for some day-to-day things, but I strongly prefer having a full-powered laptop for carrying around. I want another Mac laptop, because I can dual boot, but I'm less sure about the cost at the moment.
