Muse isn't some small indie band either. Their US Chart positions aren't high until 2003 when they started picking up popularity here but:

Nickelback sucks musically period. Anyone with half an inkling of musicianship or songwriting ability will tell you that. There are plenty of bands on the radio with talent in multiple genres even if they are not all bands I enjoy listening to. Nickelback is not one of them. Even other large popular bands think Nickelback sucks.

Also, the Grammys are terrible. But if you care about charts, you probably care about Grammys. Nickelback is a whopping 0 wins, 5 nominations whereas Radiohead is 3 wins, 14 nominations. Radiohead wins the commercial side of this contest in a knockout. Heck, one of my favorite bands of the decade, The Mars Volta, is prob someone you consider some small insignificant indie band and they have charted 5 albums this decade, 3, 4, 5, 12, 39 (US) if i recall. And they are also grammy winning.

Even Rolling Stone who is a pretty main stream music media outlet has 4 Radiohead albums in their Top 100 albums of the decade: #1, #25, #30, #89 while Nickelback has a big fat 0.

I'm sure you're trolling but, given the sample sales data there, I'm not sure what leg you have to stand on to argue that Nickelback deserves this when you have more musically talented an innovated bands who are also outcharting (Radiohead) or competitively charting (Muse) worldwide.

The three things I think of when I think of Nickleback.


1) That compilation of two nickelback songs where the left speaker plays this is how you remind me and the right speaker plays another one and they sound exactly the same. Same tempo, same verse choruse verse, everything. It's fucking hilarious and I still keep it in the car for other people to laugh at.

2) Being in Vegas when Nickleback was playing there and just looking at the wave of 35 year old losers wearing sleeveless nickleback tees the DAY AFTER the concert. Like dude you just bought that yesterday and you'e already wearing it and if thats not pathetic enough you bought scissors at the gift shop so we'd see your hairy upperarms.

3) My buddy getting stuck in Nickleback concert traffic on his way home from work and texting me that he's never seen such a parade of douchebags. Backwards hats and sunglasses at 5 PM.


Making them band of the decade is a complete travesty and is a great example of why no one with any diginity can listen to popular rock music anymore.

I'm no big indie rock type...I mean, I like some stuff that isn't exactly big-time mainstream radio, like Son Volt (and to a lesser extent, Wilco)...Blue Dogs, Ben Folds Five (they were prob major label, but they're still indie darlings)...Corrosion Of Conformity, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earle, Jerry Cantrell, etc...but I'm not all into bands that are waay out there that nobody except for artfags has ever heard of.

and I think that Nickleback sucks somethin' awful. They're the poster child for everything wrong with the music industry (on the rock side. country radio is even worse.)

and it's well known that their concerts kick ass

How the fuck is Nickelback the top band of the decade. If this is true then the 00's must have been a lousy decade in music creating new low's of the horrors of the 80's.

If urbandictionary needed a picture to captivate the meaning of "sold out" then Nickelback would probably be on my top 3 list of bands to illustrate.
