Just got back from an advanced screening in Witherspoon and I thought it was hilarious. The whole audience was laughing throughout the movie. I'm glad I saw it for free though, it was good but I don't think I'll see it again for a while.

Lots of talk about getting dicks sucked but overall pretty good.

I know I'm probably committing a Wolf Web taboo by even posting after so many years away, but I had to give praise to this movie.

I went into MacGruber with the lowest expectations. I have watched all the skits and enjoyed them, but didn't think they could make it into a movie. I was wrong. It turned out to be a hilarious movie. It earned its R Rating. There were only 20 people in the theater and everyone was laughing out load throughout the movie. This is not your normal SNL movie.

^^I saw it Thursday at a sneak peak...I was not impressed and left the movie theater feeling glad it was free.

I thought it was beyond horrible. My wife is pissed and now she wants me to watch Julie & Julia with her. Fuck you Will Forte! This was worse than Hot Rod. I caught alot of shit for that one too.

Box office disaster, ouuuuch!

rotten tomatoes
Quote :
"Who is that I see trying to defuse a bomb with only seconds remaining? It's MacGruber! Oh no, he didn't make it! Crashing into sixth place this weekend, the Saturday Night Live sketch-turned-movie bombed at the box office, pulling in only $4.1M, according to estimates, from 2,551 screens for a per screen average of $1,607. The $4.1M opening is one of the worst openings of all time from a film with at least 2,500 screens. How bad was this opening? 1999's Chill Factor, starring that dynamic duo of Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Skeet Ulrich opened to $4.5M from 2,558 theaters."

it had a 90% on rotten tomatoes and did this poorly? i dont get it.

It's a Rated R SNL film, not surprising.

It had a 90% of RT until it came out and more than 7-8 rated it. I was fooled. I have dedicated my life to ensure nobody else suffers the same fate.

I am only posting in this thread to say Hot Rod was one of the best comedies of the decade.

If you don't like that movie you are really a suspect person.

Waynes World is probably the best comedy of the 90's unless you want to argue for Cable Guy.

Ladies Man i havent seen but have heard is terrific.

Night at the Roxbury is fucking hilarious.

What the hell is wrong with you people?! Let me guess you all love the gay shit chick flicks like Knocked Up...

I don't think Wayne's World is gonna hold up for any generation younger than mine. Though, I guess that doesn't matter b/c I'll probably laugh my ass off nearly all of it for the rest of my life.

Dumb & Dumber was the best comedy of the 90s.

I could never handle watching Ladies Man for more than 5 minutes, so I don't really know if it was any good. At the very least, it has Valerie Kapowski lounging in lingerie going for it.

Night at the Roxbury is crazy underrated.

For what I watched, Hot Rod wasn't as awful as I assumed it'd be, but I hate Andy Samberg too much to enjoy sitting through the whole thing.

Jackass #2 is the funniest movie of the aughts. By a mile. Without giving it much thought, I say Old School is the funniest scripted movie.

Totally agree that the Apatow movies are as annoying as they are funny. I'll take a straight-forward Hot Tub Time Machine over a faggy Forgetting Sarah Marshall every day of the week. Those movies are especially obnoxious b/c they're regarded as actually possessing depth of some kind.

Dumb and dumber is definitely in the argument. I have it on VHS so I dont get to watch it enough.... the deleted scenes on the dvd were even fucking hilarious...

Even still i think Waynes world is the defining comedic moment of the 90s for its pop culture relevance and cable guy is the best overall movie of the 90s for being hilarious enough to weed out all the douchebags that like the Mask.

None of the movies y'all are listing are more than mildly amusing...unless you are a 13 year old whose sense of humor is limited to dick/fart jokes.

Because I don't think mediocre 90s SNL movies are awesome? I think dumb comedies have their place, but when you go around parading them as the best comedies of the decade then you've crossed a line.

I said funniest movie.

I'm not arguing that Dumb & Dumber is a better movie than comedies such as Bullets Over Broadway or Fargo, but when you boil a movie to laugh per minute, you aren't going to be beat broad, popcorn comedies.

That's a pretty asinine judgment. You realize that when comedy is described as broad it's generally considered a derogatory remark right?

that's b/c most of it sucks. but that doesn't mean it can't be good.

see: The Jerk, Mel Brooks, portions of early Woody Allen, Charlie Chaplin/Buster Keaton, Dumb & Dumber, etc.
