^^ I was simply presenting a scenario. NB: This was my first sentence:
Quote : | "I'm not saying this should happen--it's still too early." |
Many things in politics don't compute--yet they happen all the same. In any event, Romney and Brown--aside from their qualifications--look good on TV. This seems to matter a lot these days (it's part of the reason we got Obama).

why enforce the "telegenic president" idea like that, then? why not work for someone who has the guts or policy to back it up? 1/20/2010 4:34:03 PM |

^^ because the dirty little (not so) secret is that the voters who count, swing voters, run on their gut instinct at what they see on the TV 3 days before the election. 1/20/2010 4:47:32 PM |

Admiral Stockdale had plenty of "guts"--but he made the mistake of looking bad on TV.

Conventional wisdom says get your ticket to be from two different states to make it easier to carry them. Pulling 2 from the same state, one that they may or may not win, and that has less votes in the electoral college than NC does may not be the wisest decision. And after the next census the North East is likely to lose in the electoral college.
It seems like a bad investment to me, but conventional wisdom has been shown both in 08 presidential elections & the recent MA special election not to always be the place to hang your hat, so who knows? 1/20/2010 5:29:33 PM |

I'm dead serious. You are my top pick for the GOP. You represent the hatred and closed mindedness that is the hallmark of the current state of the Grand Old Party.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_National_816.pdf
Quote : | "Four-Way Tie for 2012 Nom Among National GOP Voters
Raleigh, N.C. – Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and Mike Huckabee continue to dominate the early field of potential Republican challengers to President Barack Obama, splitting 87% of the vote, with each getting between 21 and 23%.
Huckabee currently has 23% to Romney’s 22%, Gingrich and Palin at 21%, Ron Paul at 4%, and unnamed others at 2%, with 7% undecided. As the below chart shows, the four frontrunners have been converging toward each other in the six months PPP has polled the race, with either Romney, Huckabee, or Gingrich on top in any given month, and the other three bunched close behind, with Palin consistently in third or fourth. Paul’s support has gradually declined, and while Romney continues to win many state primaries that will determine the actual delegate counts at the convention, his national support has been eaten into by the entrance of Gingrich and the persistence of Huckabee and Palin." |
Romney is still doing well, and I thought the comment about doing well among the states where the primaries would be most important bodes well for him was interesting. The chart tracking the different candidates support over time from the link was cool too.8/16/2010 11:21:15 PM |
